The New York Rangers will reportedly not buy out Dan Girardi's contract.
The team has also not asked Girardi if he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause, so while anything is still possible, it looks like he'll be back in 2016-17. Dan Girardi is confident that he can bounce back from his less than ideal 2015-16 campaign.

"One hundred percent I can be," Girardi said. "That’s why they signed me to a long-term deal. Obviously this year wasn’t the best for me and the whole team but I think I can be the player I was in the past. I’m using this summer to be ready and this is the turning point for me, I think." Girardi did play through a cracked knee, which he says is improving. He will have the summer to let it heal now.

He was dealing with a concussion at the end of the regular season and then symptoms resurfaced. Girardi didn't return until Game 5 when the Penguins eliminated the Rangers.

Dan Girardi left Tuesday's match with Tampa Bay after getting hit by Brian Boyle late in the third period.

Albeit, there was only a little over a minute to go in the game. Girardi was facing the end boards en route to retrieving the puck when Boyle leaned into him. The force knocked Girardi over, and he slammed his head into the wall. He needed help coming off the ice after an extended stay, which was alarming to say the least. We'll keep you posted on his status, but don't be surprised if he gets rested until the playoffs begin.
