Dan Girardi made his presence felt in his return to the lineup on Sunday night, as he scored the game winning goal in the third period.
Girardi helped the Rangers defeat the Coyotes 3-2 after returning from a groin injury. The 32-year-old looked just fine, playing more than 19 minutes and firing two shots on goal. Oct 23 - 10:37 PM

Dan Girardi will return to the Rangers' blue line for Sunday's match with Arizona.

Girardi has an assist with three hits and blocks in two games this season. He'll be taking Adam Clendening's spot as well. With such a short ledger today, might as well play the veteran if you have him.

Dan Girardi (groin) felt good after participating in Friday's practice.

"Just have to see how I feel (Saturday)," Girardi said. "It was my first real skate." As previously noted, Girardi might end up playing this weekend, but he's unlikely to play in both games. With that in mind, he might simply be kept out of Saturday's game in favor of using him on Sunday after he's gotten a little bit more time to recover.

Dan Girardi (groin) remains questionable for this weekend.

The Rangers are scheduled to play against Washington on Saturday and Arizona on Sunday. It's possible that Girardi will play in one of those contests, but Rangers coach Alain Vigneault doubts he'll appear in both halves of that back-to-back set.
Oct 21 - 2:42 PM

Dan Girardi (groin) might skate on his own Thursday, according to coach Alain Vigneault.

The Rangers bench boss is encouraged by Girardi's progress after the defenseman missed Monday's game with a groin injury. He won't play on Wednesday night either.
Oct 19 - 2:56 PM

Dan Girardi has been ruled out of Monday's game against San Jose due to a groin strain.

He was hurt on Saturday during the second period and wasn't able to return to the game. Dylan McIlrath may see his first action of the season as a result.
Oct 17 - 10:33 AM

Dan Girardi suffered a hip flexor in the second period Saturday and did not return.

Consider the defenseman day-to-day for now. He had only 17 points in 74 games last season but did do well in the funky categories as he had 168 hits and 195 blocked shots in addition to a plus-18 rating. Use him accordingly in your fantasy pool.
Oct 16 - 7:43 AM

Dan Girardi doesn't feel he needs to enter the season with a "chip on his shoulder."

"I think I know myself," Girardi said. "I can play well. I’m not really worried about what you guys have to say, no offense. I know I can play well and be a factor." That's not the same as him being content with how things have gone though. Girardi said back in April that he didn't feel that he had the best of seasons, but he believes he can step up. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault is also upbeat about Girardi's chances of bouncing back after seeing him over the summer in skates and workouts.
Sep 24 - 6:35 AM

The New York Rangers will reportedly not buy out Dan Girardi's contract.

The team has also not asked Girardi if he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause, so while anything is still possible, it looks like he'll be back in 2016-17. Girardi is coming off of a rough season, but he was playing through a knee issue. Girardi's six-year, $33 million contract runs through 2019-20.

May 26 - 2:25 PM

Dan Girardi is confident that he can bounce back from his less than ideal 2015-16 campaign.

"One hundred percent I can be," Girardi said. "That’s why they signed me to a long-term deal. Obviously this year wasn’t the best for me and the whole team but I think I can be the player I was in the past. I’m using this summer to be ready and this is the turning point for me, I think." Girardi did play through a cracked knee, which he says is improving. He will have the summer to let it heal now.

Dan Girardi said that he experienced concussion symptoms during Game 1 against Pittsburgh.

He was dealing with a concussion at the end of the regular season and then symptoms resurfaced. Girardi didn't return until Game 5 when the Penguins eliminated the Rangers.

Apr 23 - 2:51 PM

Dan Girardi is on the ice Saturday afternoon ahead of Game 5 against Pittsburgh.

Apr 23 - 2:44 PM

Dan Girardi (undisclosed) participated in Friday's practice.

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault isn't sure if Girardi will end up returning before the end of the first round series against Pittsburgh. Girardi participated in Game 1 on April 13, but hasn't played since.
