Daniel Girardi and Ryan McDonagh continue to excel against the Flyers top line.
Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell and Jakub Voracek combined for only one goal and three assists in four regular season games with Hartnell setting up Andrew MacDonald on the power play for the only Flyers goal in Game 1 of the playoffs. If the duo of Girardi and McDonagh continue their outstanding play, the Flyers are going to have a tough time advancing. Apr 20 - 8:28 AM

Daniel Girardi had a goal and an assist in the Rangers' 4-3 overtime win on Monday.

Daniel Girardi has inked a six-year, $33 million extension with the New York Rangers.

That's identical to what Girardi was reportedly looking for in a contract extension and immediately ends the trade speculation surrounding him. It also represents a sizable, but predictable raise from his previous four-year, $13.3 million contract. Girardi has tremendous value to the Rangers, as they've demonstrated, but as a defensive defenseman, his worth to fantasy owners in standard leagues is limited at best.

The New York Rangers are still negotiating a contract extension with Daniel Girardi.

If Girardi doesn't re-sign soon, then the Rangers will reportedly attempt to trade him rather than risk losing him as an unrestricted free agent over the summer. Earlier reports suggested that Girardi was looking for a six-year, $33 million deal.
Feb 26 - 10:05 AM

Daniel Girardi is reportedly looking for a six-year deal worth about $33 million.

Girardi is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's primarily a defensive defenseman, although he also has chipped in 15 points in 52 games this season. The Rangers have reportedly made him two counter offers. One gives him the contract length he wants, but with an annual cap hit closer to $5 million and one exceeds the annual salary he wants, but will only cover five seasons.

Daniel Girardi is still negotiating a contract extension with the New York Rangers.

The Rangers would like to re-sign Girardi before the end of the campaign, but he still might end up walking as an unrestricted free agent this summer. He has 15 points, 125 hits, and 95 blocked shots in 52 games in 2013-14.
Jan 23 - 9:43 AM

Daniel Girardi recorded two assists in Sunday's 4-1 win over Washington.

Girardi snapped a seven-game point drought. He doesn't have much fantasy value in standard leagues with 14 points in 51 games. However, he's typically worth taking a look at in leagues that value hits and blocked shots.
Jan 20 - 9:23 AM

Daniel Girardi had a maintenance day on Saturday but is expected to play on Sunday.

Girardi is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He has three goals and 12 points in 46 games with a minus-five rating. Put him in your lineup at your own risk although he is good in real time stats with 111 hits and 79 blocked shots.

Daniel Girardi picked up his second goal of the season for the Rangers, but the team dropped a 4-2 decision to Columbus on Thursday.

Girardi is far from an offensive juggernaut and probably shouldn't be owned in anything, but the deepest of leagues. Dominic Moore also picked up his first goal of the season in the defeat.

New Rangers coach Alain Vigneault likely will keep Dan Girardi and Ryan McDonagh together on defense.

Vigneault also plans to use Marc Staal with Michael Del Zotto, and John Moore with Anton Stralman. "I like to have a shutdown pair and I like to have a pair that can play with our top line for offensive zone faceoffs," Vigneault said. "I like the way Michael steps into the attack, and playing with Marc Staal, who is such a good two-way player." Girardi has excellent fantasy value. History shows that he's likely to record 20-30 points in 2013-14 and he's always among the top players in hits and blocked shots.

Daniel Girardi took to the ice Monday for a pre-camp workout and he was wearing a visor on his helmet.

"With what happened to Marc, I just thought it was a good time for me to put it on," explained Girardi. "An injury like Marc's does affect everything outside of the game, as well. You come here and play, but when you go home there's your family life, and you don't want an injury like that to come home with you. I saw what Marc went through last year and it was real tough, being his friend and teammate, and that definitely helped the decision I made." He was also asked about not getting an invite to Team Canada and said it could serve as motivation when the NHL season opens.

Daniel Girardi posted a minus-4 rating in Game 2 versus Boston and was on the ice for all five of the Bruins' goals in a 5-2 loss Sunday.

He was out with Michael Del Zotto for the Bruins' last four goals. Girardi is typically one of the team's most dependable defenseman, but he had a rough game in his own zone. As a result of his struggles, he logged a playoff low 19:29 of ice time. Look for him to be better in Game 3 Tuesday night when the semifinal series shifts back to New York.
