Dan Girardi had three hits and three blocked shots in the Rangers' 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday.
Girardi has chipped in offensively so far this season with two goals and eight points in 19 games, but his fantasy value goes up in some non-traditional fantasy leagues. He has 44 hits and is tied for 13th in the league with 42 blocked shots this season. He's likely to continue to excel in both of those categories. Nov 20 - 11:10 AM

Dan Girardi registered an assist in a 3-0 victory on Tuesday.

Girardi has recorded at least a point in three of his last four games. That's put him back on pace after a slow start to the season as he now has five points in 15 contests.

Dan Girardi has been picking up his game of late.

Girardi was terrible through the first few weeks of the season but has picked it up of late as he was put back with Ryan McDonagh on Tuesday. "You try not to let it affect you, but my confidence level did drop a bit, that kind of creeps into it, also," he said. "Every play seemed like a hard play. I felt I was seeing the ice well, but I wasn’t making the right play. I don’t know, I think I was trying to go for too much, trying to be too fancy. That’s not my game, and I know it. I’d turn it over and we’d get trapped in our own end, chasing guys. When you’re going through that, the best thing a lot of the time is to just chip it out, to use the boards and the glass and not worry about creating with the big play." Girardi has played much better this week and has a goal and two points in his last four games. Put him in your lineup as a 5-6 defenseman in deeper leagues.

Dan Girardi has been struggling with his game this season.

The Rangers may be concerned that Girardi's game is deteriorating as he has not played well thus far. "For whatever reason, Dan’s overall game, especially with the puck, has not been as efficient as he’s been in the past," coach Alain Vigneault said after Friday’s practice. He has just one assist in eight games and has been moved from the first defense pairing with Ryan McDonagh to playing with Keith Yandle. The Rangers are also hoping that Girardi is just taking longer than normal to recover from off-season ankle surgery. We shall see.
Oct 24 - 8:02 AM

Dan Girardi and Marc Staal will play for the first time in pre-season on Saturday.

The defensemen each had off-season surgery on their ankles and seem to be ready to go for the regular season. Girardi is the better fantasy pick of the two as he had 31 points last season with 224 hits and 184 blocked shots while Staal had only 20 points with 99 hits and 123 blocks. There is no question who to take late in fantasy pools.

Dan Girardi underwent ankle surgery on Thursday.

The defenseman had a bursa excision on his ankle and had the fluid drained from it. He should be fine for the start of training camp in September.

Dan Girardi suffered an MCL sprain in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final.

He logged a 2015 playoff-low 16:29 of ice time the game after it happened, but his playing time went back up to normal levels for him after that. Girardi was credited with 44 hits and 65 blocks in 19 postseason matches. He'll use the summer to recover.

Dan Girardi didn't skate Tuesday morning, but he will play in Game 6 against Tampa Bay.

Daniel Girardi (mouth) said that he will be in the Rangers lineup for Game 2.

Girardi was struck in the mouth by the puck during Game 1 Thursday and went to the dentist to make sure he did not lose any teeth. He did not and took part in practice Friday despite a jaw that was swollen a tad. "They just checked to make sure all the teeth were still there," Girardi said. "Everything is fine. I’m ready to go."

Daniel Girardi (mouth) was able to take part in Friday's practice.

Girardi's jaw is a little swollen, but it sounds like he otherwise feels okay after being struck by the puck during Thursday's game. Look for him to remain in the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Penguins.
Apr 17 - 2:27 PM

Daniel Girardi was struck in the mouth by the puck during the Rangers' 2-1 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Girardi needed to see a dentist as a result, but beyond that not much was known about his condition following the game. It would certainly be a big loss for the Rangers if they lost Girardi, who ranked second on the team with 22:41 minutes of ice time per game in the regular season.
