David Clarkson suffered a torn oblique Tuesday and he's expected to miss four-to-six weeks.
That will likely sideline him for the rest of the season. Columbus has been hit hard by injuries all year and Clarkson got to start in just three games with his new club. He didn't pick up a point during that time, but he racked up 14 minutes in penalties. Mar 4 - 4:44 PM

David Clarkson sustained an upper-body injury during Tuesday's game against Washington.

The severity of Clarkson's injury isn't known. This was just his third game with the Blue Jackets after being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Clarkson has 15 points and 106 penalty minutes in 61 games in 2014-15.

He didn't score - no one on his new team did - but David Clarkson showed solid peripheral potential in the Columbus Blue Jackets' 2-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Clarkson had two PIM, two SOG and four hits in 16:13 TOI. He started the game on the top line with Ryan Johansen and Nick Foligno but was on the third unit by the end of the contest, alongside Alex Wennberg and Scott Hartnell as Cam Atkinson switched spots with Clarkson.

David Clarkson is more than happy to be out of the media circus in Toronto.

Clarkson was dealt from the Maple Leafs on Thursday and it was a tough 17 months in his hometown as he inked a seven-year/$36.75 million deal in July of 2013. The tough times started right away when he was hit with a 10 game suspension for coming off the bench in an exhibition game in September 2013 and he never recovered from that, scoring just 15 goals and 26 points in 118 games for the Blue and White. "It seems like everybody who goes through that market in Toronto with a big ticket like that, they expect 40 goals and 40 fights from them," new teammate Scott Hartnell said. "It’s not realistic, for anybody."

David Clarkson is projected to make his Blue Jackets' debut on Saturday.

That's assuming that immigration issues don't delay the process. Clarkson had just 15 goals and 26 points in 118 contests with the Toronto Maple Leafs over parts of two seasons, but being dealt to Columbus will provide him with a much-needed fresh start. It wouldn't be shocking to see Clarkson end the season on a high note.
Feb 27 - 11:04 AM

David Clarkson has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Nathan Horton.

There was reportedly no salary retained by the Leafs in the deal. Clarkson's homecoming to Toronto didn't go well. He produced 15 goals and 26 points in 118 games with the Maple Leafs.
Feb 26 - 6:27 PM

Peter Horachek didn't agree with David Clarkson being ejected for his hit on Sergei Gonchar on Saturday.

"From my viewpoint, the first contact was on the shoulder and that turned (Gonchar)," Leafs coach Peter Horachek said, adding that he didn’t feel Clarkson should have been ejected. "It felt it was a good hit." Clarkson will not receive supplemental discipline for the hit.

David Clarkson was ejected from Saturday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Canadiens.

Clarkson got into a first period fight with Brandon Prust, but he was ejected from the game for his hit from behind on veteran Sergei Gonchar. Gonchar's teammate Nathan Beaulieu confronted Clarkson and they dropped the gloves as well. Clarkson played just 2:31 in the game and racked up 27 minutes in penalties.
Feb 15 - 8:40 AM

David Clarkson will get back into the lineup on Thursday after being a healthy scratch for the past two games.

"He's proud, he's shown in practice he's worked hard, he's acted like a pro," said coach Peter Horachek. "He's practiced hard. That's what you want to see out of a guy. You want to see a response. He responded the way you want him to." He will play with Leo Komarov and Peter Holland.
Feb 12 - 4:42 PM

As expected, David Clarkson was a healthy scratch against the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.

Through injury, suspension, and generally ineffective play, Clarkson simply hasn't delivered during his first 113 games in his hometown of Toronto. He has just 15 goals, 26 points, 161 PIMs, 173 hits, and 192 shots on goal during that time. One can only wonder how his immovable contract will be handled going forward.
Feb 10 - 8:39 PM

David Clarkson and Maple Leafs coach Peter Horachek had a long chat on Tuesday about the decision to keep the forward in the press box.

"As a team when you lose 11 in a row I think there's always things you can do better," Clarkson said. "This was something where there was a message being sent, and I'm sure everyone got the message." While he's referring to the decision to put and keep him in the press box as sending a message to his teammates, it's not like he's lived up to the Maple Leafs' expectations. After his terrible 2013-14 campaign, he has 10 goals and 15 points in 53 contests this season. There was plenty of criticism of the Leafs' decision to ink Clarkson to a seven-year, $27.75 million back in the summer of 2013 and so far he hasn't been able to prove the critics wrong.
Feb 10 - 4:02 PM

David Clarkson might be a healthy scratch again on Tuesday.

"I have not made the final decision but usually if you have a winning combination ..." coach Peter Horachek said after practice on Monday. The Leafs ended their 11-game winless streak on Saturday with Clarkson in the press box and he could be back there again versus the Rangers.

Feb 9 - 4:11 PM

David Clarkson has zapped with criticism ever since signing with the Leafs, but that has never led to a healthy scratch for the gritty winger until Saturday night.

Clarkson will sit in the press box on Saturday night's game with the Oilers with no apparent injury. The disappointing forward has 15 points in 53 games so far this year.
Feb 7 - 6:55 PM

David Clarkson has 10 goals and 14 points in 48 games this season.

Clarkson has certainly rebounded from his rough 2013-14 campaign when he recorded just five goals and 11 points in 60 contests. It's still not great for a guy that comes with a $5.25 million annual cap hit, but from the start it seemed unlikely that he would live up to that contract. He also has 52 penalty minutes, 105 hits, and a minus-nine rating in 2014-15.
Jan 23 - 6:37 PM

David Clarkson was among three Maple Leafs players to tally a goal and an assist in the team’s 5-2 win over the Canucks on Saturday night.

After a season to forget, Clarkson has bounced back to be to at least be a factor on the ice. Sure, his eight goals — Saturday via the empty net — and 10 points are nothing special, but outside of 2011-13 with the Devils, Clarkson was a solid bottom-six player with an edge to his game and offensive punch in his skill set. Clarkson was also a plus-four. Joffrey Lupul and Peter Holland were the others to pick up two points apiece. Richard Panik and Jake Gardiner got the other goals in the win.
