New Jersey GM Lou Lamoriello has started contract talks with potential unrestricted free agent David Clarkson.

"We'll continue to work on it," Lamoriello said Thursday. "We've certainly started the process, but until (contracts) are complete there is nothing done." There hasn't been financial discussions at this point though. Clarkson would garner a fair share of attention if he were to hit the open market.

David Clarkson is the Devils' nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.

The Trophy is awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community. Clarkson has worked for and created numerous charities and is a fine candidate.

David Clarkson said he's not sure what will happen this summer when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Clarkson's future is a pretty big question entering this season. Will he eschew free agency and stay with the Devils? Or will he take the big money, perhaps from his hometown Maple Leafs? If Clarkson chooses to hit the open market, he'll likely be one of the most desirable names on it. A year after finally reaching the 30-goal plateau, the burgeoning power forward scored 15 goals this season, which is roughly a 26-goal pace in a full season. Clarkson says he expects to meet with GM Lou Lamoriello and his agent and then figure out a plan from there.

David Clarkson's 15 goals are tops on the Devils.

That's not saying all that much considering Ilya Kovalchuk has been hurt and Clarkson scored 10 times in the first 15 games, getting five in the 33 games since. "I think there was just a period there where the puck was going in," Clarkson said. "It wasn’t going to continue going in like that. You look at the goals I have compared to other guys, it’s right where I should or I would be. I wasn’t going to keep up that pace I was on, but I definitely would have liked to have stayed scoring like I was and just have this team keep winning."
Apr 26 - 9:37 AM

David Clarkson may be playing in his last home game with the New Jersey Devils Thursday night, as he's eligible to be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

He said the thought hadn't crossed his mind and he's unsure he'll be back with the Devils next season. "I've enjoyed playing here," said Clarkson, who added that he'd like to re-sign. "I don't know what's ahead, but I haven't really thought about that. It's not something that's come into my mind or mindset. I'm going to go out there and play like we're still in and we're still fighting for something and that's all I can do." Contract negotiations between the organization and his agent have been nonexistent so far.

David Clarkson helped his fantasy owners on Sunday, although he didn't score a goal or an assist in the New Jersey Devils' 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers.

Clarkson fired six SOG and delivered four hits to provide some deeper stats. If he would have gone to the box, it would have been just about all you could ask for from a non-scoring day.
Apr 21 - 6:45 PM

David Clarkson sniped the lone goal for New Jersey in its 2-1 loss to Toronto on Saturday night.

The Devils are having a very tough time scoring goals right now. Clarkson broke a five-game pointless streak. Marek Zidlicky had the assist.
Apr 6 - 9:54 PM

David Clarkson likely made some of his fantasy owners happy despite the fact the Devils were shut out by Boston by a score of 1-0 on Thursday.

Despite a minus-1 rating in the contest, Clarkson notched two penalty minutes and a team-leading seven shots on goal. Although his offensive pace has slowed since the start of the year, Clarkson is delivering solid production in leagues that reward PIM.
Apr 4 - 9:41 PM

David Clarkson scored the game-winning goal in New Jersey's 2-1 victory over Florida.

Patrik Elias also scored for the Devils. Travis Zajac assisted on both of New Jersey's goals.
Mar 23 - 9:54 PM

David Clarkson sees Tuesday's contest against the New York Rangers as a must win.

"It’s like playoff hockey and this is a must win for both teams," Clarkson said. "You look at the standings and where we are. Every game is so important. Everybody is close." The Devils are four points ahead of the Rangers, but have played in two more games. Overall, New Jersey is in seventh place with 32 points and their playoff spot is far from secure.
Mar 18 - 5:07 PM

David Clarkson downplayed the fact that he ended his goal scoring drought on Friday.

Clarkson netted his 11th goal of the season and his first in a month. "Obviously, with everybody being all over me about the scoring drought, it’s nice," said Clarkson. "But at the end of the day, like I've said before, it doesn't matter if I’m scoring, he’s scoring, it doesn't matter to me. It definitely feels good and I've got to continue now to keep going and keep putting the puck on net." He had eight shots on goal, more than his previous three games combined.
Mar 16 - 10:37 AM

David Clarkson scored, but the Devils came up just short in their 2-1 shootout loss to the Flyers on Friday night.

Clarkson, who hadn't found the back of the net since Feb. 15, ended a 13-game goalless drought with his 11th marker of the season. He also had a whopping eight shots on goal. The feisty winger has just two points in eight March games after 17 in his first 20. Bryce Salvador and Marek Zidlicky picked up the assists.
Mar 15 - 10:06 PM

Devils coach Pete DeBoer thinks David Clarkson's goal scoring slump is about more than just bad luck.

"I think it’s a little bit of both," DeBoer said. "Your natural reaction when the puck’s not going in for you is to maybe get away from some of the things that made successful. With David, for me, it’s getting pucks to the net. He’s a guy that gets shots on net from all different angles. We don’t have a team with a real shot mentality, so that’s important and I think he gets rewarded for that when he does that. When you look at his shot totals, I think there’s a correlation between getting the puck to the net and the goals that go in." Clarkson has gone 12 games without a goal after netting 10 goals in his first 14 contests. He also has just 32 shots in his last 12 contests, compared to 60 shots over 14 games during his hot streak.
Mar 13 - 12:46 PM

David Clarkson has gone eight straight games without scoring a goal after scoring 10 in his first 14 outings.

The 28-year-old forward was bound to cool off from his great start. He has one assist over his recent goalless span, along with 21 penalty minutes and 24 shots, so he's still been somewhat useful. "I don't know what it is," Clarkson said. "I don't consider myself a scorer who's going to score every night. I'm getting the chances but not finding the back of the net. I have to find a way to keep putting it on net and hopefully it goes in soon."
