Ryan Carter, who is attending the Devils' training camp despite being unsigned, is hoping to get into preseason games.
Carter is paying for his own insurance to protect himself in case he gets hurt. "Where my future is, I don’t even know," Carter said. "I hope I know where it is, but I don't and that's the fact of the matter. So, I've got to go out there and play." He played in 62 games with New Jersey last season, but there's no shortage of competition for bottom-six spots this time around. Sep 21 - 5:11 PM

Although he's still unsigned, Ryan Carter feels it's important for him to participate in training camp.

Carter is an unrestricted free agent and is hoping that the New Jersey Devils re-sign him after he spent parts of the last three seasons with them. "This is about being the best hockey player you can be and I believe training camp helps you get there," Carter said. "If you're skipping out on training camp, you're not preparing yourself for what's ahead and you're setting yourself behind. I'm here because I want to be here. This is where I want be, where my family wants to be." He had seven goals and 10 points in 62 games in 2013-14.
