Adam McQuaid will be looking to get back on track and remain healthy next season.
He's played in 62 games the past two seasons and he didn't play after Jan. 19 this year because of a troublesome quad injury. "It's been a long time since I've really felt good and felt like myself," said McQuaid, who had surgery on his ankle earlier this month. "So in a way I feel good that there's a possibility that I could feel that much better than I have in recent times, so it's all positive for me in that mindset." Even if he returns to full health in 2014-15 there's a chance that Kevan Miller could push him into being an extra blueliner on Boston's defense corps. May 22 - 9:31 AM

Adam McQuaid's ankle issue was something that he's been dealing with for a while.

"My ankle has been something that's been going on for, it's been bothering me for a while. Decided at the end of last year to try and play through it this year, just with how quick the turnaround was last year, so it was something that I knew coming into the year that I would have to get done at the end of this year," McQuaid said. "We got to a point with my quad that we knew it wasn't going to be an option for this year, so that was when we decided to do the ankle as opposed to waiting until the end of the year." He didn't play in 2013-14 after Jan. 19 despite several unsuccessful attempts to come back.

Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid underwent ankle surgery and will miss eight weeks, effectively ending his season.

McQuaid can be a nice source of PIM, hits and blocked shots when healthy, so his value may vary depending upon fantasy formats. He hasn't played since Jan. 19.
May 4 - 2:07 PM

Adam McQuaid’s quad injury was not expected to be such a long-term issue but it has turned out to be quite a struggle.

The Bruins' defenseman has not played since Jan. 19, and, while he appeared close to coming back after the Olympics break, he had a setback and did not resume skating until last week. It does not appear as though the Bruins expect him to return for their first-round playoff series against the Detroit Red Wings, which opens Friday. "We want to be careful on it," Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli said of McQuaid's quad. "It is not a major injury, it is a soft tissue injury and we’ve been doing OK with the ‘D’ we have so we want to be cautious with it."
Apr 15 - 9:18 AM

Adam McQuaid (leg) got back on the ice on Tuesday for the first time since he suffered a setback just after the Olympic break.

There's no timetable for his return. McQuaid has been sidelined with a quad injury since Jan. 19.
Apr 9 - 7:33 AM

Adam McQuaid may be able to start skating in the next few days.

He has been limited to off-ice workouts due to a quad muscle strain that has kept him out of the Bruin lineup since January 19th. Once he recovers, McQuaid will have to fight for ice time as the Bruins have seven other NHL caliber defensemen they can play. Given that his only value to poolies is his propensity to be penalized, McQuaid is not rosterable at this time.
Mar 29 - 8:35 AM

There's nothing to report on the status of Adam McQuaid and his ailing quad strain.

"Nothing," Julien said. "He's still working out off-ice, but he hasn't been on the ice yet." He was given a few weeks off to try to rest after suffering several setbacks in his recovery. McQuaid hasn't played since Jan. 19.
Mar 27 - 9:54 AM

Adam McQuaid (leg) is back with the team after he was shut down on Mar. 5, but it's unclear when he'll be able to return.

"We're obviously going to have to make a decision at some point," coach Claude Julien said. "The reason we shut him down was to try and get him back on course, and I know he's been working off ice longer and longer every day. As far as I know, he's going in the right direction, but whether we make a decision with him or not, I'll probably know more once I get back home because he stayed back with our trainers there and is working out that way." The Bruins may revisit what to do with him once the initial two-to-three week period has expired. He hasn't played since Jan. 19 because of a quadriceps strain.
Mar 21 - 7:22 AM

Adam McQuaid (core) has been shut down for the next two to three weeks.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli admitted that he's not sure what will happen with McQuaid after that period of rest is over. "His injury, while it keeps healing, he has setbacks," Chiarelli said. McQuaid's injury likely influenced the Bruins decision to get defensemen Andrej Meszaros and Corey Potter on Wednesday.
Mar 5 - 6:46 PM

Adam McQuaid has reportedly dealing with a core injury, which caused him to miss his 30th game of the season on Sunday.

"There's going to be a decision on whether to shut him down or go forward, and those decisions will be made in the next day or so," coach Claude Julien said. "He went through some tests the other day. I don't have the answer, but there's going to be an answer soon, so we've got to make a decision on whether to go forward or hold him back a little longer." If the Bruins do shut him down then that doesn't mean he will miss the rest of the season. It just means that he won't push himself to return and will hold off on his exercises. He hasn't skated since Wednesday.
Mar 3 - 9:51 AM

Adam McQuaid has suffered a setback in his recovery from a leg injury.

McQuaid is expected to miss Saturday and Sunday's games. He has six points and 69 penalty minutes in 30 contests in 2013-14.
Feb 28 - 12:36 PM

Adam McQuaid (leg) is considered doubtful to play Wednesday.

"He's really close," coach Claude Julien said. "If things keep going, we're keeping our fingers crossed that by the weekend we should have real good news." McQuaid hasn't played since Jan. 19 due to a leg ailment.
Feb 26 - 6:48 AM

Adam McQuaid (leg) participated in Thursday's practice.

It marked his first session back since suffering a leg injury on Jan. 19 against Chicago. McQuaid isn't sure if he will be ready to play next Wednesday versus Buffalo, but if he can then he's expected to replace Kevan Miller on Boston's back end.
Feb 20 - 3:34 PM

Adam McQuaid did not practice with his Bruin teammates and will not play in Saturday afternoon's contest against the Senators.

He is sitll dealing with a leg injury that has sidelined him for Boston's last eight games. Bruin coach Claude Julien is hopeful that McQuaid will be able to partake in hockey activity before the end of the Olympic break and return to action not long after the NHL resumes play.
Feb 8 - 8:37 AM

It is uncertain if Adam McQuaid will return from his leg injury before the Olympic break.
