Adam McQuaid’s quad injury was not expected to be such a long-term issue but it has turned out to be quite a struggle.
The Bruins' defenseman has not played since Jan. 19, and, while he appeared close to coming back after the Olympics break, he had a setback and did not resume skating until last week. It does not appear as though the Bruins expect him to return for their first-round playoff series against the Detroit Red Wings, which opens Friday. "We want to be careful on it," Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli said of McQuaid's quad. "It is not a major injury, it is a soft tissue injury and we’ve been doing OK with the ‘D’ we have so we want to be cautious with it." Apr 15 - 9:18 AM

Adam McQuaid may be able to start skating in the next few days.

He has been limited to off-ice workouts due to a quad muscle strain that has kept him out of the Bruin lineup since January 19th. Once he recovers, McQuaid will have to fight for ice time as the Bruins have seven other NHL caliber defensemen they can play. Given that his only value to poolies is his propensity to be penalized, McQuaid is not rosterable at this time.

Mar 27 - 9:54 AM

Adam McQuaid (leg) is back with the team after he was shut down on Mar. 5, but it's unclear when he'll be able to return.

"We're obviously going to have to make a decision at some point," coach Claude Julien said. "The reason we shut him down was to try and get him back on course, and I know he's been working off ice longer and longer every day. As far as I know, he's going in the right direction, but whether we make a decision with him or not, I'll probably know more once I get back home because he stayed back with our trainers there and is working out that way." The Bruins may revisit what to do with him once the initial two-to-three week period has expired. He hasn't played since Jan. 19 because of a quadriceps strain.
Mar 21 - 7:22 AM

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli admitted that he's not sure what will happen with McQuaid after that period of rest is over. "His injury, while it keeps healing, he has setbacks," Chiarelli said. McQuaid's injury likely influenced the Bruins decision to get defensemen Andrej Meszaros and Corey Potter on Wednesday.
Mar 5 - 6:46 PM

Adam McQuaid has reportedly dealing with a core injury, which caused him to miss his 30th game of the season on Sunday.

"There's going to be a decision on whether to shut him down or go forward, and those decisions will be made in the next day or so," coach Claude Julien said. "He went through some tests the other day. I don't have the answer, but there's going to be an answer soon, so we've got to make a decision on whether to go forward or hold him back a little longer." If the Bruins do shut him down then that doesn't mean he will miss the rest of the season. It just means that he won't push himself to return and will hold off on his exercises. He hasn't skated since Wednesday.

It could be shorter, it could be longer." He didn't play Monday because of the ailment.
