Adam McQuaid will be a healthy scratch in Monday's game against Calgary.
The 28-year-old has just one goal and four points in 37 games this season. He is more of a physical defenseman than an offensive force. He has no fantasy value in standard leagues. McQuaid is capable of piling up penalty minutes but not much else. Feb 16 - 8:49 PM

Adam McQuaid will play Saturday night against the Islanders despite taking a puck to his right ear in practice Friday.

McQuaid has a knack for getting hurt in strange ways. That said, he's a tough cookie and will suit up against the Isles in a key matchup Saturday evening despite sporting a pretty ugly bruise on the right side of his face.
Feb 7 - 9:01 AM

Adam McQuaid was struck by a high stick from New York's Kevin Hayes during the second period.

The Boston blueliner left the ice clutching his eye, but he returned in the third with a gash just under his left eye. It's a good thing he wasn't seriously injured on the play. Hayes was given a double minor.
Jan 16 - 10:16 AM

Adam McQuaid racked up 21 penalty minutes in Saturday's 3-1 win over Philadelphia.

He was assessed an instigator, a fighting major and misconduct just seven seconds into the first period when he got into an altercation with Nick Schultz. Schultz nailed Bruins forward Daniel Paille after McQuaid gave him a pass into his skates, so he felt a little responsible and wanted to stick up for his teammate. The Boston defenseman added a pair of minor penalties and an assist in the third period.
Jan 12 - 8:18 AM

Adam McQuaid played 17:26 in his return to the lineup on Saturday.

McQuaid missed 18 consecutive games because of a finger injury suffered in mid-November. He's more of a physical, defensive defenseman and doesn't bring much to the table fantasy-wise.
Jan 4 - 1:21 PM

Adam McQuaid (thumb) was activated from the IL on Saturday.

McQuaid managed to take a couple of minor penalties and go minus-one in his first game back after breaking his thumb on November 18. He has no fantasy value.
Jan 4 - 2:51 AM

Despite the fact that Adam McQuaid continues to make progress in recovery from a broken thumb, he is not yet ready to return to action.

McQuaid was cleared for contact and participated in passing and skating drills in Friday's practice. He has meetings with the Bruins' training staff next week to map out a target date for his return. McQuaid, who has not played since November 18th, is getting close. If you need him for penalty minutes check back with us next week.

Adam McQuaid will be out of action for six to eight weeks with a broken thumb.

Boston GM Peter Chiarelli announced the news on Wednesday after McQuaid was injured in Tuesday's win over the St. Louis Blues. McQuaid has two points, 40 hits and 27 blocks in 20 games this season.

Adam McQuaid exited Tuesday's win against St. Louis early in the second period.

He appeared to take a shot off his wrist and he wasn't able to return. McQuiad logged just 9:51 of ice time prior to leaving. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Adam McQuaid got his first goal of the season in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over Buffalo.

He tied the game at 1-1, but the Bruins trailed the Sabres by a score of 2-1 after two periods. McQuaid was one of just three Boston blueliners to top 20 minutes of ice time (20:43) in the contest. Dougie Hamilton (24:06) and Dennis Siedenberg (22:19) led the way. McQuaid has two points in 12 games this year.

Adam McQuaid could play a bigger role on the Boston blueline than he has in the past.

First off, the rugged rearguard is healthy for the first time in a long time. Secondly, Boston coach Claude Julien seems inclined to spread playing time more evenly amongst the six defencemen he ices on a nightly basis. As a result of this new philosophy, McQuaid has averaged a team-high 21:47 in ice time in the Bruins' first two games. Julien is obviously a fan of McQuaid. "We all know that when he's healthy, he's a pretty good player, probably underrated," Julien said. "He's big, he's strong. He makes those good little plays in tight areas sometimes where you see some D's just rim it away and he'll make some good plays. When he plays with lots of confidence, he's a smart player and he's able to take some of those responsibilities." Despite registering an assist against Detroit Thursday, McQuaid has fantasy value only if your pool values penalty minutes.

Adam McQuaid played in his first game since Jan. 19 on Wednesday in preseason action.

He had off-season ankle surgery and a torn quad, which sidelined him for most of 2013-14. "He was good. I think he came out and tried to make a statement there, that he's ready to play and he wants to be here," said coach Claude Julien. "I thought he played a real strong game. I gave him high marks for his first game back and how well he played for his first game back." McQuaid recorded four hits and a plus-1 rating in 19:04 of ice time.
