The New York Islanders' move to Brooklyn appears to have been part of Nikolai Kulemin's willingness to sign with the team.
"I think it's going to be great to get a new building. It's going to be a good experience to play there," he said when asked if he was excited about the move. "I know a lot of Russian people live in the Brooklyn area, so it'll be a good experience for us and maybe a lot of Russia fans will start going to the games." He inked a four-year deal with the Islanders and the team is expected to cal Barclays Center in Brooklyn home for the 2015-2016 season. Jul 5 - 5:18 PM

Nikolai Kulemin has agreed to a four-year, $16.75 million contract with the New York Islanders.

Kulemin is reuniting with former Maple Leafs teammate Mikhail Grabovski and it wouldn't be surprising to see them play regularly on the second line together. Kulemin is coming off of a rough season where he scored just nine goals and 20 points in 70 contests, but he has the potential to flirt with the 50-point mark in 2014-15.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to pursue Nikolai Kulemin.

Kulemin has experience playing alongside Evgeni Malkin in the KHL and if the duo is reunited in Pittsburgh, then it will be very good for Kulemin's fantasy value. Kulemin is coming off of a rough season where he recorded just nine goals and 20 points in 70 games.

Now that he has traded James Neal (to the Nashville Predators), new Pittsburgh general manager Jim Rutherford has some salary-cap room for the purpose of pursuing free agents.

And Rutherford openly says he will try to please Penguins superstar Evgeni Malkin with a free-agent acquisition. Rutherford could be alluding to Nikolai Kulemin, who has been playing with the Maple Leafs but will be allowed to test free agency on July 1. Kulemin and Malkin are close friends. "I'm not going to name any names," Rutherford said. "But we think we can get somebody who can fit."

Nikolai Kulemin's agent, Gary Greenstin, described contract negotiations with the Maple Leafs as limited.

There's still time for them to pick up, but it looks like Kulemin will be allowed the test free agency on July 1. He started close to 66 percent of his shifts in the defensive end last year and ended up with a career-worst 20 points in 70 games. If he wants more of an offensive role then it might be his best interest to leave the only club he has ever played for.

Nikolai Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski might coordinate as unrestricted free agents this summer to make sure they sign with the same team.

Kulemin and Grabovski spent five seasons together with the Maple Leafs before Grabovski was bought out and he signed a one-year deal with Washington. That contributes to the idea that Kulemin won't re-sign with Toronto. It doesn't help that Kulemin was also unhappy with the fact that he got next to no power-play ice time in 2013-14.

Nikolai Kulemin's agent, Gary Greenstin, had informal talks with director of hockey operations Dave Poulin and assistant GM Claude Loiselle on Monday.

Kulemin can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer. His current deal carries an annual average value of $2.8 million, but he's unlikely to make that same amount once that agreement expires. Kulemin has played all 415 of his career contest with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

After taking Thursday off Nikolai Kulemin was on the ice for Maple Leaf practice on Friday.

He returned from Sochi late Wednesday and got the day off from Toronto head coach Randy Carlyle. Friday he skated on a line alongside Dave Bolland and Mason Raymond. Russia had a very disappointing Olympic hockey experience and the Leafs are hopeful Kulemin will be able to shake it off.

Nikolai Kulemin would "love to stay" in Toronto.

He has played all 397 games of his NHL career with the Maple Leafs. Kulemin's name has surfaced in trade rumors and he's eligible for unrestricted free agency in the summer. He has been playing on the team's second line of late with Nazem Kadri and Joffrey Lupul. Kulemin has eight goals and 16 points in 46 games.

Maple Leafs' Nikolai Kulemin scored the only Toronto goal in a devastating 7-1 loss to Dallas.

Kulemin's goal was his seventh of the campaign. Given his defensive responsibilities, he's not worth of a roster spot in fantasy leagues. Nazem Kadri and Carl Gunnarsson picked up the only assists on the marker.
Jan 24 - 12:10 AM

Nikolai Kulemin notched his third goal of the season in Thursday's loss to St. Louis.

He scored 30 goals in 2010-11 but he hasn't come close to regaining that form in his past two seasons. Kulemin has three markers and seven points in 21 contests this year.

Nikolai Kulemin scored a goal in Saturday's 4-2 win over Buffalo.

Kulemin now has three points in eight games this season. He got off to a decent start this season, but things were quickly derailed by an ankle injury that kept him on the sidelines for a month.

Nikolai Kulemin seemed a little rusty on his return to action Saturday night.

That's understandable since he had been out of action with an ankle injury for a month. Kulimen will likely need a few games to get his timing and conditioning back. Keep him on reserve until you see him turn the corner.

Nikolai Kulemin has been removed from Toronto's injured list.

His activation makes it likely that he'll play Saturday night in Vancouver. Kulemin is projected to play with Jay McClement and Joffrey Lupul in the contest, which is where he practiced on Friday.

Look for Nikolai Kulemin to return to action Saturday against Vancouver.

He has been out of action since October 2nd with an ankle injury but is ready to play. The Maple Leafs will have to make a roster move to accomodate Kulemin's return and get under the salary cap. No word yet on who may be farmed out.
