Nikolay Kulemin scored the only Islanders goal Tuesday as the team was upended by Chicago by a score of 4-1.
Kulemin's goal came late in the third period after the outcome had already been decided so it accomplished little more than ruining Corey Crawford's shutout bid. Formerly a 30-goal scorer with Toronto, the Islanders' winger now serves as a depth forward with his new club. Mar 17 - 11:29 PM

Nikolay Kulemin had two goals and an assist in a 7-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Kulemin now has 11 goals and 20 points in 46 games this season. Michael Grabner, John Tavares, and Nick Leddy each had a goal and an assist. Josh Bailey and Anders Lee also found the back of the net for the Islanders. Johnny Boychuk assisted on two of New York's seven markers.

Nikolay Kulemin scored his ninth goal of the season on Saturday.

Kulemin has not hit double digits in goals since the 2010-11 season when he potted 30 for the Maple Leafs, the only time in his seven year NHL career that he surpassed the 16 goal mark. He is on pace to get 16 this season and if he is able to, he will be an overall nice addition to the Islanders as his defensive play is stellar.

Nikolay Kulemin scored an empty net goal to seal a 3-1 win for the Islanders on Saturday.

When the Islanders inked Kulemin in the off-season, it was thought he could return to his former glory in Toronto as the New Yorkers planned to play him with Mikhail Grabovski, his linemate with the Maple Leafs. But Kulemin is now a third liner with the capabilities to score 10-15 goals a season. He now has six.

Nikolay Kulemin had a goal in the Islanders’ 3-1 win over the Devils on Saturday night.

Kulemin has been a savvy pickup for the Islanders, but he’s not exactly someone to bank on in fantasy leagues. The forward has five goals and 12 points this season. Cal Clutterbuck and Casey Cizikas potted the other markers. Cizikas also added an assist.

Nikolay Kulemin seems to be working out on the top line with John Tavares and Kyle Okposo.

Kulemin has made the line better in the defensive zone. "We knew we needed to be better in that area," Tavares said. "Kulie is a guy who doesn't take short cuts. He's helped us be better in our own zone." Kulemin isn't nearly as big of an offensive threat as Tavares or even Okposo, but he's not a bad guy to take a chance on in standard leagues given his linemates.

Nikolai Kulemin had a goal and an assist in the Islanders' 6-0 victory against Colorado on Tuesday.

Kulemin hadn't recorded a point in the Islanders' previous six contests. He has two goals and eight points in 15 games this season.

Nikolai Kulemin practiced alongside John Tavares and Kyle Okposo on Monday.

The Tavares line was on when the San Jose Sharks' netted the game-winning goal on Saturday. Islanders coach Jack Capuano likely replaced Brock Nelson with Kulemin because he felt Kulemin would do more to help the line defensively.

Nikolai Kulemin has made a good first impression in New York with his defensive efforts.

"He's so strong on the puck, along the wall, he's relentless," linesmate Frans Nielsen said of Kulemin. "It's a great guy to have on your line and on the team." Josh Bailey has also been part of that line, which was frequently used to counter Carolina's top scoring unit on Saturday. Kulemin noted that his linemates, Nielsen and Bailey, are both talented offensively, so he doesn't see himself as part of a pure checking unit. They did combine for the game-winning goal on Saturday.

Nikolai Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski's agent looked for a team that could take on both during the off-season.

Kulemin and Grabovski enjoyed their time together in Toronto and when both became unrestricted free agents on July 1, their agent, Gary Greenstin, looked for a team that could use both players and got lucky with the Islanders. "It's always tough to come to a new team for me," Grabovski said. "I'm kind of a shy guy, so it's not easy. It's easier with Nikolai here, too. My closest friend in NHL -- our wives are friends, our kids. I feel more comfortable with him around." The Islanders are looking for big years from both but they may be unrealistic if they think that Kulemin can return to the 30 goal season from four seasons ago. He is more in line for 15-18 this season and as such should not be drafted in most fantasy pools at this time.

The New York Islanders' move to Brooklyn appears to have been part of Nikolai Kulemin's willingness to sign with the team.

"I think it's going to be great to get a new building. It's going to be a good experience to play there," he said when asked if he was excited about the move. "I know a lot of Russian people live in the Brooklyn area, so it'll be a good experience for us and maybe a lot of Russia fans will start going to the games." He inked a four-year deal with the Islanders and the team is expected to cal Barclays Center in Brooklyn home for the 2015-2016 season.

Nikolai Kulemin has agreed to a four-year, $16.75 million contract with the New York Islanders.

Kulemin is reuniting with former Maple Leafs teammate Mikhail Grabovski and it wouldn't be surprising to see them play regularly on the second line together. Kulemin is coming off of a rough season where he scored just nine goals and 20 points in 70 contests, but he has the potential to flirt with the 50-point mark in 2014-15.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to pursue Nikolai Kulemin.

Kulemin has experience playing alongside Evgeni Malkin in the KHL and if the duo is reunited in Pittsburgh, then it will be very good for Kulemin's fantasy value. Kulemin is coming off of a rough season where he recorded just nine goals and 20 points in 70 games.

Now that he has traded James Neal (to the Nashville Predators), new Pittsburgh general manager Jim Rutherford has some salary-cap room for the purpose of pursuing free agents.

And Rutherford openly says he will try to please Penguins superstar Evgeni Malkin with a free-agent acquisition. Rutherford could be alluding to Nikolai Kulemin, who has been playing with the Maple Leafs but will be allowed to test free agency on July 1. Kulemin and Malkin are close friends. "I'm not going to name any names," Rutherford said. "But we think we can get somebody who can fit."

Nikolai Kulemin's agent, Gary Greenstin, described contract negotiations with the Maple Leafs as limited.

There's still time for them to pick up, but it looks like Kulemin will be allowed the test free agency on July 1. He started close to 66 percent of his shifts in the defensive end last year and ended up with a career-worst 20 points in 70 games. If he wants more of an offensive role then it might be his best interest to leave the only club he has ever played for.
