Alexei Emelin has been fined $ 11 021,51 by the NHL for his hit on Sabres' forward Brian Gionta on Friday night.
Emelin will not be suspended for the hit. The Russian defenseman caught Gionta with a shoulder to the head in the third period of Friday's game. The two are former teammates in Montreal. Alexei Emelin will have to explain himself to the NHL Department of Player Safety Saturday in regard to a hit he administered to the head of former teammate and Buffalo forward Brian Gionta Friday night.

It is possible Emelin could be suspended and miss Saturday night's rematch in Montreal. Stay tuned for updates.

He has missed the past two games due to an upper-body injury. Emelin's physicality will come in handy against the Boston Bruins in the Canadiens' home opener. Nathan Beaulieu will be a healthy scratch to make room for him.

He wasn't able to play in Saturday's match versus Philadelphia because of the ailment. It is not clear if he will be available for Monday's game against Tampa Bay. Emelin has two assists and six hits in two outings this year.

Alexei Emelin registered two assists in Montreal's win over Toronto Wednesday night.

He picked up a helper on Max Pacioretty's opening goal early in the first period and he sprung Tomas Plekanec for a pretty breakaway goal in the second. Emelin isn't known for his offensive contributions, but he is capable of chipping in some points. The rugged blueliner finished the match with three hits, three blocks and a plus-2 rating.

Alexei Emelin wasn't able to play in Game 6 against the New York Rangers due to an undisclosed ailment.

He won't get a chance to play until next season because the Canadiens were eliminated from the playoffs by the Rangers on Thursday night. Nathan Beaulieu took his spot in the lineup again, just like he did in Game 5.

Alexei Emelin contributed two assists in Montreal's 5-4 OT win against Tampa Bay in Wednesday's playoff opener.

He filled the stat sheet in the match with two penalty minutes, one shot, two hits and three blocks. Emelin also saw time on Montreal's second power-play unit, where he logged 1:09 of his 30:08 of his total ice time.

Alexei Emelin was fined $5,000 for butt-ending Canucks forward Pascal Pelletier in Thursday's game, the NHL announced Friday night.

The incident happened in the second period of Montreal's 5-2 victory, however Emelin was not penalized on the play. This is the first disciplinary punishment Emelin has received in his NHL career.
