Alexei Emelin was brought in by the Predators to add depth and competition, according to GM David Poile.

Coach Peter Laviolette will decide where Emelin will play in the lineup, but he could be a solid fit on the team's third defense pairing. The Predators have eight defensemen on one-way deals and they currently plan to have them all on the roster for the start of the year.

To complete the trade to the Predators, the Golden Knights agreed to retain a portion of Emelin's $4.1 million cap hit.

Vegas agreed to retain just under $1.2 million, making it a much more manageable contract for the Predators. The Predators are still approximately $20 million under the 2017-18 cap, with a move for Matt Duchene being rumored.
Jul 1 - 10:20 PM

Updating a previous report, the 3rd round pick sent to Vegas for Alexei Emelin will be in 2019 and not 2018.

Many reports are suggesting Emelin was acquired in order for Nashville to trade one of their top-four defensemen in a deal for Matt Duchene. However, nothing is finalized yet.
Jul 1 - 8:33 PM

Darren Dreger is reporting that the Vegas Golden Knights have traded Alexei Emelin to the Nashville Predators.

In return, Vegas is receiving a 3rd round draft pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Emelin joins Hartnell and Bonino as additions to the Predators today. After losing to the Penguins in six games during the Stanley Cup Final, Nashville is reloading for another run during the upcoming season. Emelin will be a physical presence to Nashville's bottom pairing, and is someone who can bump up in the event of an injury.
Jul 1 - 6:19 PM

Vegas is still looking to trade expansion draft pickups Alexei Emelin and Luca Sbisa.

The Golden Knights have already dealt Trevor van Riemsdyk, Marc Methot and David Schlemko. According to TSN's Frank Seravalli, the other defenders are likely to stay on the roster.
Jun 27 - 2:21 PM

Alexei Emelin has been scooped up by the Vegas Golden Knights.

Vegas surprised many by choosing Emelin over Brandon Davidson and Charles Hudon, but he will add a physical dimension to the Golden Knights on the back end. Emelin amassed 241 hits in 76 games with Montreal in 2016-17 and he chipped in 10 points.
Jun 21 - 9:59 PM

Alexei Emelin has reportedly been picked in the expansion draft by Vegas.

According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens didn't have to give up a draft pick to get the Golden Knights to select Emelin. That will knock his $4.1 million cap hit off the books for Montreal.
Jun 21 - 6:58 PM

According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, Alexei Emelin and Brandon Davidson are the names he's hearing connected to Vegas for the expansion draft.

Emelin spent a good chunk of the season on Montreal's top pairing with Shea Weber, but the Canadiens would be thrilled to get his $4.1 million salary off the books. Emelin doesn't provide much in terms of offensive production, but he is a physical blue liner that can throw his weight around all over the ice. He has one year remaining on his current contract, so the Golden Knights could draft him and trade him before next year's deadline.
Jun 20 - 9:14 PM

Alexei Emelin underwent arthroscopic surgery to his right knee on Wednesday.

He is projected to nee four-to-six weeks of recovery time. Emelin got back in the lineup from a lower-body injury in Game 5 against the Rangers after he was hurt in Buffalo on Apr. 5. In 76 appearances in 2016-17, he recorded 10 points and 71 penalty minutes.
Apr 26 - 6:14 PM

Alexei Emelin scored Montreal's only goal in a 3-1 loss to the New York Rangers in Game 6 Saturday night.

It was Emelin's first career playoff goal in his 29th contest. Alexander Radulov and Artturi Lehkonen assisted on Emelin's marker. With that, Radulov finished the series with an impressive two goals and seven points. Unfortunately for Montreal, his efforts weren't enough to save the Canadiens as it's the Rangers that are going to the second round.
Apr 22 - 10:55 PM

Alexei Emelin is likely to return from a lower-body injury on Thursday night.

He is being listed as a game-time decision, but Emelin said he feels ready to make his series debut. He was paired with Nathan Beaulieu at the morning skate, which probably means that Brandon Davidson will be scratched.
Apr 20 - 3:29 PM

Alexei Emelin (lower body) took part in Wednesday's practice.

Emelin will be re-evaluated on Thursday, so we'll have to wait and see if he's available for Game 5. He had two goals and 10 points in 76 regular season games.
Apr 19 - 3:24 PM

Alexei Emelin (lower body) is making progress, but it's still unclear when he will be ready to return.

He has been skating by himself at Montreal's practice facility. Emelin has been sidelined since Apr. 5 because of a lower-body injury.
