Van Riemsdyk’s goal at the 13:27 mark of the first period got the Leafs on the board, but they were already down four goals at that point. The goal was scored on the power play. Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel registered the assists on the goal. Van Riemsdyk got off to a promising start this season but he has cooled off considerably. The 25-year-old still has a respectable 24 goals and 49 points in 71 games this season.

Toronto forward James van Riemsdyk had a goal and an assist in the Maple Leafs' 4-3 overtime loss to the visiting New York Islanders Monday night.

After scoring his 23rd goal of the season at 6:06 of the third period, van Riemsdyk gave the troubled Leafs a 3-1 lead and some hope that they would prevail. But the Leafs squandered the lead by allowing two regulation goals and then an overtime goal by the Isles' superstar, John Tavares. JVR notched his 25th assist of the season at 10:27 of the second period on Peter Holland's 11th goal of the season. That gave the Leafs a 2-0 lead. David Booth opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season.

James van Riemsdyk scored the game-winning goal for the Maple Leafs in their 4-3 overtime victory over the Jets on Saturday night.

JVR scored with 1:13 left in the game. The goal is his first in 11 games, and just his third point during that timeframe. That he has 22 goals and 45 points this season is pretty amazing considering the Leafs have struggled mightily since a hot start to the season. Nazem Kadri and Daniel Winnik each picked up a goal and an assist. Leo Komarov got a shorthanded goal. Morgan Rielly assisted twice and finished with a plus-three rating.

James Van Riemsdyk scored his 21st goal of the season Wednesday night but it was too little for the struggling Maple Leafs as they dropped another game, this time 2-1 in a shootout to the Devils in New Jersey.

The Maple Leafs, who were without captain Dion Phaneuf (hand), lost their seventh straight game. Van Riemsdyk ended a goalless game at 11:49 of the third period before the Leafs surrendered the game-tying goal with 2:50 left in regulation. Toronto (22-23-4) returns home to play against the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday before embarking on a three-game road trip against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday and the Nashville Predators on Feb. 3 before returning to New Jersey on Feb. 6.

Maple Leaf interim head coach Peter Horachek reunited James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel on the team's first power-play unit.

It paid off with 11 shots on goal and two first-period markers in a 5-2 win over Columbus Friday night. This was the Buds' top line last season and really should reunited on both the power play and at even strength. Horachek may in fact be thinking that way, and if he is, JVR, Bozak and Kessel will be all the more productive and valuable from a fantasy perspective.

This is the Leafs' first win since firing head coach Randy Carlyle earlier this week. The win also snaps Toronto's three-game losing streak. Van Riemsdyk picked up the primary assist on Phil Kessel's first period goal, and eventually added a goal of his own in the period. The 25-year-old added an empty netter to ice the game in the third period. He has an impressive 19 goals and 21 assists in 42 games this season.

Hockey players, man. Tough as it gets. Van Riemsdyk would finish the game with an assist on Cody Franson's power play goal to tie it at one early in the third, as well as one minor penalty, two hits, three shots, and 23:23 of ice time.
