James van Riemsdyk is a big supporter of several changes that Toronto has made this off-season.
"You see what they're doing obviously on the outside with hiring different people in management and coaches, but the stuff behind the scenes, the things they're doing to track performance and health, is all very encouraging," he said. "They're making the commitment and that starts up top with ownership. They're making a commitment to different things to really make sure that there is no excuse if you put the work in." He's excited to get to know GM Lou Lamoriello, who he met for the first time when he was 15 years old. Van Riemsdyk is also looking forward to playing for new coach Mike Babcock and getting tips from Dr. Jeremy Bettle, who was hired as the director of sports science and performance. Obviously, he wasn't as enthused to see friend and linemate Phil Kessel get traded, but he knows that is part of the business. Aug 3 - 8:05 PM

Trevor has played 15:37 in two games, while recording a shot on goal. "With my brother in there, it’s weird," James said. "I kind of feel where my mom comes from where as far as you’re on the edge of your seat. It’s definitely more nerve-wracking than playing. That’s for sure. Just kind of seeing him out there, wanting to do well, it’s definitely a totally different animal than playing in that way."

Maple Leaf interim head coach Peter Horachek reunited James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel on the team's first power-play unit.

This was the Buds' top line last season and really should reunited on both the power play and at even strength. Horachek may in fact be thinking that way, and if he is, JVR, Bozak and Kessel will be all the more productive and valuable from a fantasy perspective.
