James van Riemsdyk has scored eight goals in his last five games.

The pending unrestricted free agent has really been feeling of late. "They’re definitely laughing about that, how it seems lots of pucks I’m touching start going in the net," van Riemsdyk said of his teammates. "I’ll ride it out as long as I can and keep going with it." The 28-year-old has 34 goals and 51 points in 73 games this season. No matter where he ends up next season, expect him to break the bank.

James van Riemsdyk scored a pair of goals in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

JVR opened the scoring at the 15:06 mark of the first period before adding a power-play tally early in the second frame to make it 2-0 for his team. The Leafs then went up 3-0 thanks to Zach Hyman's tally, but they eventually allowed the Lightning to score four unanswered goals. JVR has found the back of the net seven times in his last four outings. The 28-year-old has 33 goals and 49 points in 72 games this season. Those were van Riemsdyk's 30th and 31st goals of the 2017-18 campaign, which established a new career-high for him. His previous personal best of 30 goals was set back in 2013-2014. James van Riemsdyk scored three goals in a 6-5 shootout win over the Dallas Stars.

Entering the third period down two goals, van Riemsdyk picked up the slack for his teammates by scoring two goals a little over five minutes apart to tie up the game. The Stars were able to go back ahead before Patrick Marleau sent it to OT and Mitch Marner iced it in the shootout. It's JvR's third career hat trick and they are goals 27, 28 and 29 this season. The 28-year-old forward will become a UFA at the conclusion of the season and will likely command a big sum on the open market. So far he's picked up 44 points in 69 games this season.

Expect the wind to be a factor during Saturday's Stadium Series game in Annapolis, Maryland between the Maple Leafs and Capitals.

There was 80MPH wind gusts in Annapolis on Friday night, but even though that'll come down on Saturday, the wind is still expected to make things difficult for the players. It's something that both teams will have to adjust to. "Every one of these is a little different. It would’ve been nice to get out there today and get a feel for (the ice), especially with (Toronto’s Canadian Navy-themed) white jerseys, but we’ll make it work," Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk said. "Night time will make it different for sight, but I think that will be good (not to lose the puck against different backdrops). I haven’t played anywhere where it has been super windy. It will definitely be a neat dynamic."

James van Riemsdyk registered an assist in Toronto's 5-3 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday.

van Riemsdyk has only been held off the scoresheet once in his last six games. He has 23 goals and 39 points in 59 contests this season. Certainly he's provided the Leafs with some valuable secondary scoring, but this hasn't been one of his best campaigns in terms of offensive production, especially after his 2016-17 showing of 62 points. That's problematic for him as he's eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
