Flyers General Manager Ron Hextall said that signing Jakub Voracek to a contract extension is a priority.
Re-signing the 25-year-old is a no-brainer after he had another tremendous season in 2014-15. Voracek and Claude Giroux are very close on and off the ice, and keeping the two together will be a priority this off-season for Philadelphia. Voracek had 22 goals and 81 points in 82 games this season. He has one year remaining on a contract that will see him make $4.5 million. He can become an unrestricted free-agent after next season. Flyers GM Ron Hextall wants to sign Jakub Voracek to a contract extension, but with plenty of time to spare, it seems like it's not currently a priority.

Voracek still has a season left on his four-year, $17 million deal. "We'll get to work on it," Hextall said. "We'd like to keep Jake as part of the future here and certainly a building block and a core player. We've got other things going on right now, but when the time comes, we'll get busy and hopefully get Jake signed." Voracek is due for a big raise after recording 62 points in 2013-14 and then 81 points in 2014-15.

He will get to play with his idol and fellow countryman Jaromir Jagr in front of a home crowd as the Worlds will take place in the Czech Republic. Voracek finished the season tied for fourth in NHL scoring with 81 points and while he was satisfied with his season personally, he stated that he has only done it once. "It’s been a long season," Voracek said. "If I do it next year, maybe I can admit that I belong there [in that club]. Right now, I had one good season. It doesn’t end for me. Nothing changes. I will work hard this summer."

It was Voracek's best season of his career and as he heads into what should be the best years of his career, there is a lot to like about the 25-year-old.

Voracek represented the Czech Republic when they won the gold medal in 2010. If the Florida Panthers fail to make the playoffs, Voracek might get a chance to play along Jaromir Jagr, which is something Voracek noted would be "awesome."

Jakub Voracek got in the third fight of his NHL career Tuesday night.

He engaged in fisticuffs with Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis in the second period and he held his own. "I got hooked," Voracek said. "I cross-checked him. It's an emotional game. It was a square fight - and we moved on right after." He sits fifth in the league with 69 points in 72 games, so obviously his fight didn't thrill his coaches.
