Brandon Sutter had a goal and an assist in the Canucks' 5-1 victory Wednesday night.
Sutter logged 20:47 minutes, including 2:56 with the man advantage. He's been given the opportunity to play a big role with Vancouver, which could lead to him being significantly more productive than he was with Pittsburgh. He's never recorded more than 40 points in a single season and that was back in 2009-10, but he might end up having some fantasy value in standard leagues this season. Oct 8 - 10:44 AM

Brandon Sutter is very happy to be in Vancouver.

"You're always nervous coming in — it's like your first day in a new school," Sutter said. "But I couldn't find a better fit and it was almost perfect. They made a very generous decision to offer the contract, and I don't know how I could turn that down." Vancouver acquired Sutter from the Pittsburgh Penguins and then inked him to a five-year, $21.875 million contract. He's projected to open the season as the Canucks' second line center, which is a better role than he could have hoped for with the Penguins.

Brandon Sutter has inked a 5-year, $21.875 million deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

Sutter was acquired from Pittsburgh along with a 2016 third rounder in exchange for Nick Bonino, Adam Clendening and a 2016 second-round pick last week. His $4.375 million cap hit in 2016-17 is certainly pricey for a player who has reached the 40-point mark once in his career. Sutter is projected to be the Canucks' second-line center this season.
Aug 4 - 6:52 PM

Brandon Sutter and the Vancouver Canucks have been working on an extension.

Sutter's new deal is reportedly looking like it will be a five-year contract just shy of $4.4 million annually. Whether or not that deal makes sense depends on the role he'll play in Vancouver. It sounds like he might start the 2015-16 campaign as the team's second line center, but is that his long-term role there? He's great defensively, but hasn't been a prolific scorer and might ultimately make more sense serving on the third line and in that scenario, his contract might look a bit overpriced.
Jul 30 - 3:20 PM

Canucks GM Jim Benning sees the newly acquired Brandon Sutter as a "foundation piece."

It certainly would be awkward now if Benning isn't able to re-sign Sutter before he become an unrestricted free agent next summer, although it seems like that scenario isn't going to play out. The two sides might be able to agree on an extension well before the campaign starts. Vancouver acquired Sutter and a 2016 third round pick from Pittsburgh in exchange for Nick Bonino, Adam Clendening and a 2016 second rounder. It also sounds like Sutter might serve as the team's second line center over Bo Horvat for now. That would make this trade a positive for Sutter from a fantasy perspective, although we wouldn't expect a huge leap from the 33 points he registered in 2014-15.
Jul 28 - 2:23 PM

The Vancouver Canucks have acquired Brandon Sutter and a 2016 third round selection from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Nick Bonino, Adam Clendening and a 2016 second rounder.

Sutter is a solid defensive center that can chip in a bit offensively. While he was pretty much stuck as the third-line center in Pittsburgh, he might have a shot of playing regularly on the second line in Vancouver. We wouldn't count on that though as there's a good chance that role will go with Bo Horvat now that Bonino is gone.
Jul 28 - 11:50 AM

Brandon Sutter was Pittsburgh's only goal scorer in the Penguins' 4-1 loss to the Flyers in Philadelphia Sunday.

Sutter scored his 19th goal of the season at 16:21 of the first period, giving the Pens a shortlived 4-1 lead. The Pens outshot the Flyers 47-20 but Philly goalie Steve Mason was hot, kicking aside 46 shots. The Flyers have won eight in a row against the Penguins dating back to last season. More importantly for Pittsburgh, though, is the fact that it has lost three in a row and is 3-8-1 in its past 12 games. The slump, which has featured two regulation losses to Philadelphia, has put the Pens in dangerous territory when it comes to the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.
Apr 5 - 4:37 PM

Brandon Sutter scored against his former team, but the Penguins were smacked 5-2 by the Hurricanes on Thursday night.

Sutter now has 17 goals and 29 points through 72 games, three points shy of his career high he set in 2011-2012 with Carolina.
Mar 26 - 10:19 PM

Brandon Sutter has been a valuable fantasy asset if you play the shorthanded goals category.

Sutter has four which is tied for the NHL lead with Rick Nash and Tyler Toffoli. The third line center has 15 goals and 27 points this season and has three game winners to boot. His fantasy value lies in the shorthanded goals category.
Mar 14 - 9:56 AM

Brandon Sutter had an assist in a 2-1 shootout loss versus Chicago on Sunday.

Sutter has 11 goals and 21 points in 54 contests in 2014-15. He's occasionally served on one of the Penguins' top two lines this season and during those stretches he's been noteworthy from a fantasy perspective. However, he's currently serving as a third liner, which makes it hard for us to recommend him in standard leagues.
Feb 16 - 11:13 AM

Brandon Sutter scored the game-winning goal against his former squad, the Carolina Hurricanes, on Wednesday.

Sutter was sent to Pittsburgh as part of the Carolina Hurricanes' acquisition of Jordan Staal. Carolina didn't have the opportunity to counter with Staal on Wednesday though as he has a lower-body injury. Sutter has eight goals and 15 points in 35 contests in 2014-15.
Jan 1 - 9:27 AM

Brandon Sutter will be in the lineup Saturday night against the Washington Capitals.

The Penguins center will return to the lineup Saturday to face the rival Capitals. Sutter has had a down year so far with just 14 points (seven goals and seven assists) but it looks like he will be centering Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist Saturday which should help him produce at a better rate than his current pace going forward.

Brandon Sutter's test results came back negative for the mumps.

In light of that Sutter has been cleared to come out of isolation. It's not clear if he'll also be available for Saturday's game, but with all the players the Penguins are missing, they could certainly use the help.

Brandon Sutter is being tested for mumps.

He has returned to Pittsburgh, so he didn't attend the Penguins' practice in Florida and he isn't expected to play Monday night. Sutter will go into isolation until the results of his tests come back.

Brandon Sutter is okay after taking a puck to his face in Friday's game.

Sutter received stitches to his left ear as a Cody Franson slapshot from the point found its way to Sutter's face by the side of the net. Sutter should be fine for Saturday's game against the New York Rangers.
