The Boston Bruins have sent Zach Hamill to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Chris Bourque.

Hamill is a former top-10 pick whose stock has dropped dramatically. After being taken with the eighth overall pick in 2007, Hamill has just four points 20 career NHL games. He's scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer and the change of scenery might help him. Still, you'd need to be in a pretty deep league to make it worth your while to gamble on Hamill in a 2012 fantasy draft.

Zach Hamill has been waived by the Boston Bruins.

That's certainly interesting. Although it's true that Hamill has had difficulties getting playing time with with Bruins this season, it's surprising that they have decided to make the 2007 eighth overall draft pick available to the rest of the NHL. Although Hamill hasn't done much to prove himself at the NHL level, we wouldn't be surprised if a struggling team decides to take a chance on him for the low price of a waiver wire claim.

Zach Hamill is only a few days away from securing a position with the Bruins for the rest of the season.

The rookie forward has 28 days of service in the NHL this season and if he remains with Boston for two more days he will have to pass through waivers if the Bruins try and send him down to Providence. thereafter. Of course, the B's could still try to sneak him through waivers, but we doubt they would take the chance. Hamill has played well in limited opportunities but he will not be fantasy relevant this season.
