Forward Colton Gillies may return to the Columbus lineup after the injury to Matt Calvert opened up a vacancy.

Gillies has been a healthy scratch on multiple occasions this year, but he may be called upon now while the Blue Jackets try to force their way into a playoff spot. His addition to the lineup could be a temporary one, as Columbus hopes to have center Artem Anisimov (concussion) back shortly.

Colton Gillies got into his first game of the season Monday.

Gillies was a healthy scratch in the Blue Jackets first five games of the season. He played 5:39 minutes on the fourth line alongside Mark Letestu and Jared Boll. "I thought Colton was good," coach Todd Richards said. "He used his size. He used his speed. He managed the puck well. He gave us some good shifts." He has no fantasy value despite the nice comments by Richards.

Coach Todd Richards has been impressed with the play of Colton Gillies.

Gillies received a bit of a break when the Blue Jackets named Richards as the new head coach once they fired Scott Arniel as Richards was the head coach of the Wild the last two seasons, the organization Gillies played for before he was claimed off waivers a couple of weeks ago. Richards loved one game Gillies played last season for him in a 5-0 loss to the Canucks. "He was all over the ice in that game, around the puck all night, and that’s what I think he was like (on Wednesday against the Kings when he scored his first goal of the season)," Richards said. "The way he worked away from the puck to get the puck was really good on his part. You can see his feet and his aggressive play, being the first guy in on the forecheck, playing the body and creating turnovers. That’s what I’ve liked about his game since he’s been here, but especially on Wednesday."

Colton Gillies was claimed off waivers by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

He was waived by the Wild on Friday. We don't expect Gillies to have much of an impact in Columbus.

Colton Gillies has been placed on waivers by the Minnesota Wild.

Gillies has two points in 37 games this season. Assuming he clears waivers, Gillies will probably be sent to the minors.

Colton Gillies will not be in the lineup for the Minnesota Wild when the team visits the Oilers in Edmonton tonight.

It will be the second consecutive game in which Wild coach Mike Yeo will designate Gillies as a healthy scratch. "He will always take it hard," Yeo said. "We're talking about a guy whose care level is extremely high. He takes a lot of pride in his game. In the big scheme of things, it will be an OK thing for him." Gillies, one of a handful of players out for an optional skate Wednesday, reluctantly agreed. "Maybe it's good to take a step back sometimes," he said. "I trust Yeo and his decisions. Obviously it's not something that I want to have happened."

Colton Gillies was a healthy scratch on Monday.

Gillies had only two assists in 23 games for the Wild this season but that is not his game. He is an energy player and coach Mike Yeo thinks his game has been lacking of late, forcing him to the press box. Yeo had Gillies in Houston last season where he averaged 20 minutes per game but has averaged only nine this season in the NHL. "That's a tough adjustment for a young player," said Yeo." "He has to find a way to get himself in the game." He is not worth owning in any fantasy pools at this time.

Colton Gillies doesn't consider himself a lock to crack Minnesota's roster.

His locker-room stall remains in a separate room with the minor leaguers, not the NHL players, and, "I'm still [living] in the hotel. I'm not moving until they tell me to, so I don't take anything for granted." Nonetheless, a one-way deal, which Gillies has, usually means he's in the NHL because, if the Wild sends Gillies to the minors, it would have to pay him his full $600,000 salary there.

Colton Gillies will probably start the 2011-12 season in the NHL.

The two-year deal that Gillies recently signed is one-way, which means that he'll earn $1.25 million over the next two years, even if Minnesota sends him to the AHL. Gillies was impressive during the AHL Houston Aeros' playoff run. He tied for the lead with seven goals and also registered five assists in 24 postseason contests. He also scored a goal in seven games with the Wild last season
