Nick Petrecki has passed through waivers and has been sent to the minors.
Petrecki is on a two-way deal so sending the 23-year-old down to Worcester of the AHL will save the Sharks money. He has been a disappointment since being drafted in the first round, 28th overall in the 2007 Draft when the Sharks loved his hard hitting and heavy shot from the point. Feb 11 - 10:56 AM

Date:

Nick Petrecki has been waived by the San Jose Sharks.

The move could be a precursor to Brent Burns getting back into the lineup, but that may or may not happen as soon as Saturday afternoon. Petrecki played in just one game with San Jose and he'll probably head to the minors if he clears.

The San Jose Sharks have loaned Nick Petrecki to Worcester of the AHL.

He is being sent to the minors on a conditioning stint and the move allows the Sharks to send him down without putting him on waivers. He remains on the Sharks 23 man roster and will continue to collect an NHL salary.
Feb 4 - 11:13 AM

Nick Petrecki will likely be the odd man out when Justin Demers is able to return to action.

Demers is close to returning and that will give the Sharks an extra blueliner. Petrecki is on a two-way contract and could use the playing time, so the 23-year-old first round pick in 2007 is the best candidate to be sent down.
Jan 22 - 11:05 AM

The San Jose Sharks have inked Nick Petrecki to a one-year contract.

The Sharks wouldn't reveal the financial terms of the deal, but CapGeek.com reported that it's a two-way contract worth $650,000 annually in the NHL. Petrecki has three points and 53 penalty minutes in 16 AHL contests.

Defenseman Nick Petrecki is out of action with a hand injury.

Petrecki has been a disappointment for the Sharks after being taken in the first round, 28th overall, in the 2007 Draft. At age 23, he has yet to play in the NHL and has been passed on the overall depth chart by a couple of teammates on the blueline in Worcester. Consider him day-to-day for now.

The San Jose Sharks have recalled Nick Petrecki from the minors.

Petrecki was the Sharks first round pick, 28th overall in the 2007 Entry Draft. He struggled last season with only 14 points and 106 penalty minutes in 65 games and has only seven points with 86 penalty minutes, including eight fighting majors, in 40 games this season. It looks like the defenseman will provide some toughness for the Sharks on the blueline when he plays.

The San Jose Sharks have sent Nick Petrecki to the minors.

This is not a surprise as the defenseman struggled last season with Worcester of the AHL and actually was a healthy scratch in the AHL playoffs. He had 14 points and 106 minutes in 65 games last season. Look for a bounce back season from the 28th overall pick in the 2007 Entry Draft.

Nick Petrecki is looking forward to bouncing back from an off-season last year.

Petrecki played for Worcester of the AHL last season but saw his ice time dwindle during the regular season to a point where he was a healthy scratch during the playoffs. He was the 28th overall pick in the 2007 Entry Draft. "Nick in college was a very big, strong, physical guy playing his games against some younger men," coach Todd McLellan said. "The pro game is a little bit different -- you've got some older guys who may be more experienced and less intimidated."He is a physical player with good size and a solid shot who had two goals and 14 points in 65 games last season with 106 minutes in the sin bin. Look for Petrecki to return to Worcester this season but with much better results.

San Jose signed Nick Petrecki to a three-year, entry level contract on Monday.

The 19-year-old defender was selected 28th overall in the 2007 draft. He is a physical player with good size and a solid shot. The former Boston College blueliner will report to the Sharks' AHL affiliate in Worcester.

The Sharks have selected hard-hitting defenseman Nick Petrecki with the 28th overall pick in Friday's NHL entry draft.

The powerful Omaha defenseman terrorized opponents in the USHL last season. He is a devastating hitter with a very heavy shot. Some scouts believe he would have been rated higher had he played against stronger competition in the OHL, but he chose to keep his college eligibility and will play for Boston College next year. He scored 11 goals and 23 points this season, while contributing 149 penalty minutes in 44 games. The one knock on Petrecki is that he sometimes makes poor decisions on the ice and that may have led to his slip in the rankings. He will eventually be a solid NHL defenseman. San Jose can afford to be patient.
