Joakim Andersson has agreed to a one-year, $815,000 deal with Detroit.
Andersson would have been a restricted free agent this summer. His contract represents a relatively mild raise over the $765,000 he received in 2014-15. He had three goals and eight points in 68 contests in 2014-15. Jun 26 - 1:26 PM

Joakim Andersson will be looking to play a bigger role offensively in 2015-16.

Andersson had just three goals and eight points in 68 contests in 2014-15. "I think I can do better," Andersson said. "I thought I had a solid playoff round, but I want to do better. Offensively, I gotta produce more." Andersson did better in his 2013-14 campaign when he recorded 17 points in 65 contests. It wouldn't be surprising to see him get back to that level.

Joakim Andersson was credited with Detroit's second goal in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to Tampa Bay.

His first marker of the postseason was fluky. Andersson's long shot was stopped by Ben Bishop, but then the Lightning goaltender batted the puck into his own net. Andersson had three shots on goal in the match and that was his first point of the series.

Joakim Andersson will draw back into the Wings lineup Monday night in Anaheim.

He opened the scoring in the second period at the 18:04 mark and Tomas Tatar scored a minute later to give Detroit a 2-0 lead. The Blues rallied in the third, but the Red Wings got the win on a goal by Pavel Datsyuk with only 2.2 seconds left in overtime. Andersson doesn't have any fantasy value.

Joakim Andersson, Daniel Cleary, and Brian Lashoff will be healthy scratches Saturday night against the Senators.

Andersson is the most notable scratch of the three having played in 28 of the Wings games this season, but had only registered three assists on the year. He will give way to Jakub Kindl again who will suit up for the third consecutive game. Cleary and Lashoff have each played in 10 games this season but have been ineffective for Coach Mike Babcock so will be scratched again Saturday.

Joakim Andersson has been playing on the wing, with Luke Glendening at center, on Detroit's fourth line.

Drew Miller rounds out the unit and coach Mike Babcock has been impressed with the combination. "They do what they do. They check like crazy, they're gritty," Babcock said. "Glennie's a pain in the butt. Andy can make plays and is a good passer and he's smart, and Millsie's real smart and works hard. They brought their game." The trio has been used in checking situations early into the 2014-15 campaign.

Joakim Andersson is hoping to regain a position on Detroit's fourth line after losing it last season to Luke Glendening.

Actually, there is room for both Andersson and Glendening on the Wings' fourth unit this season provided both play up to their potential. However, more competition is expected to come from Daniel Cleary and Tomas Jurco. Much of Andersson's problems last season could be attributed to an ankle injury. The Swede is now healthy and will have to prove to the Wings' coaching staff he is ready to contribue on a consistent basis. Bear in mind this is a fourth line position we are talking about. Who wins this job will not turn the fortunes of any hockey pool participants.

Joakim Andersson appears to be Detroit's 13th or 14th forward heading into training camp.

Luke Glendening took over Andersson's spot as the Red Wings' fourth-line center late in the year. He will have to earn his roster spot going into the season, but Detroit's plethora of centers could result in him being moved at some point.
