Thomas Hickey has enjoyed being paired with Lubomir Visnovsky for the past two months.

"He's such a positive guy, so it's mostly 'good job' or 'keep doing that,'" Hickey said. "You see the decisions he makes, when to jump into the play and when we switch sides inside the zone to confuse the coverage. I'm picking up a lot." The 24-year-old has played in 37 games with the Islanders during his first NHL season, while posting four points and a plus-10 rating.

Thomas Hickey contributed two assists in the Islanders' 6-3 win over Montreal Tuesday night.

In 16 games this campaign, he has three points and a plus-1 rating while seeing 14:29 of average ice time. The 24-year-old defenseman is playing in his first NHL season after he was claimed off waivers by the Islanders in January.

Thomas Hickey has been a healthy scratch for the past three games, but he's expected to play Tuesday night against Ottawa.

The Islanders lost defenseman Brian Strait to a broken ankle Monday, so Hickey is poised to take his place. Hickey has no points and a minus-5 rating in eight games with New York this campaign after being claimed off waivers from Los Angeles back in January.
Feb 19 - 9:05 AM

The New York Islanders have claimed Thomas Hickey off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.

Hickey was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2007 draft by the Kings, but he was never able to crack the team's lineup so he is still waiting to make his NHL debut. Hickey has 12 points in 33 games with Manchester in the AHL this campaign. The Islanders added another defenseman in Joe Finley off waivers from Buffalo on Monday, so they are creating some competition for roster spots.
Jan 15 - 12:45 PM

Thomas Hickey scored his third goal of the season as his Manchester Monarchs dropped a 3-2 decision to Worcester Monday.

Hickey has been a major disappointment since being drafted fourth overall in the 2007 Draft. The defenseman has been surpassed by many on the Kings depth chart and he now has 10 points on the season after his power play goal. Hickey will likely need a change of scenery if he is able to make the NHL as he will turn 24 years of age in February.
Jan 1 - 7:09 AM

Thomas Hickey has signed a one-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Kings.

Hickey was a restricted free agent. He had three goals and 26 points in 76 AHL games with the Manchester Monarchs last season.

Thomas Hickey will represent the AHL Manchester Monarchs in the 2012 AHL All-Star Game.

Hickey had a shot at making the Kings' opening game roster, but he fell short. With the Monarchs, Hickey has 11 points and a plus-15 rating in 36 games this season.

Thomas Hickey and Slava Voynov are in the running to grab the open roster spot on the Kings' blueline due to Drew Doughty's absence.

The two seem to be in competition for that spot, although Voyonv seems to be the favourite at present. "He's been playing with men in Russia for several years before coming to Los Angeles as a draft pick. His growth period had been pretty dramatic as a young kid so you see the experience, you see the knowledge that he has of the game", said coach Terry Murray. Keep an eye on Voyonv. If he continues to impress, he could stick even after Doughty signs.

Thomas Hickey has been skating quite a bit with Davis Drewiske during drills at practice.

This could be an indication that he has the inside track of landing a job on the team's third defense tandem to start the season. Stay tuned.

Thomas Hickey was sent down to the minors on Monday.

"I was very happy with Hickey's camp," general manager Dean Lombardi said. "Two years ago he couldn't play an exhibition game. Last year he went to Las Vegas and he was as nervous as, well, insert your own quote. This year he had real good confidence and was real good with the puck and made good decisions. There's no doubt he needs to get stronger in his skating. There are times he's going to need that step to get away from people. I have no problem with his learning curve." Hickey will be a NHL defenseman in the very near future. The Kings also assigned forward Kevin Westgarth to Manchester.

Los Angeles defensemen Thomas Hickey and Colten Teubert are drawing attention from the Kings' brass at the club's rookie camp.

"Thomas Hickey, in practice today you see the kind of skill he has with handling the puck and reading it, jumping in on the offensive part of the game," coach Terry Murray said. "With Teubert, I see such great potential there on the physical side of the game. Really a big guy. He's mobile. He's very strong." Both of them are unlikely to make the Kings' roster just yet, but one of them could end being the club's seventh or eighth defender this season. Keep an eye on them as they are excellent blueline prospects.

Rookie defensemen Thomas Hickey and Colten Teubert have a chance to crack the Kings defense this season.

Both Hickey and Teubert are former first round picks with the Kings with Hickey going fourth overall in 2007 and Teubert 13th in 2008. The duo played together for gold-medal winning Team Canada at the 2009 World Junior Championships. "They'll have a chance. They'll get a very good look," coach Terry Murray said. "They'll probably end up playing all six exhibition games. . . . Both are now ready. They've finished their time in junior and it's time to step up and see where they're at."

The Los Angeles Kings have sent Thomas Hickey to the minors.

Hickey was selected fourth overall in the 2007 Entry Draft. Look for him to spend most, if not all, of the season in the minors gaining valuable experience. He should be a contender for a spot on the blueline next year.

Thomas Hickey was very effective in Saturday's practice session, especially when it came to controlling the puck.

"He's a subtle player. That's the thing," GM Dean Lombardi said. "[Drew] Doughty can bring you out of your seat, but Hickey's all subtle, a really smart player. If you understand the game and those subtleties, that's where he shows up. If you're looking for highlight films, it's not him. Doughty has more of a highlight-film moment once in a while." Hickey, who was the Kings' first-round pick in the 2007 draft, looks to be a strong bet to make the team out of camp.
