With Zack Kassian sent to the minors, Bill Sweatt and Nicklas Jensen have been recalled by the Vancouver Canucks.

The Vancouver Canucks have signed free agent prospect Bill Sweatt.

Sweatt became a free agent after turning down contracts from the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Hawks traded his rights to Toronto as part of the Kris Versteeg deal. The 21-year-old led Colorado College in scoring last season with 33 points in 39 games. He is likely ticketed for the minors for this year.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have passed on winger Bill Sweatt.

GM Brian Burke informed Sweatt’s agent that the Leafs no longer have interest in the former-Blackhawk. Sweatt had come to Toronto in the trade for Kris Versteeg. He had 15 goals and 18 assists in 39 games with Colorado in the NCAA.

Bill Sweatt, who was acquired from the Blackhawks in the Kris Versteeg trade, remains unsigned.

The Leafs have until August 15th to sign the speedy winger. After that date he becomes an unrestricted free agent. There will apparently be a lot of interest around the league, making the Leafs signing him a somewhat important priority. Last season Sweatt had 33 points in 39 games in the Colorado College program.
