Mikael Backlund will be a restricted free agent this summer.
He expressed his hope to stay with the Flames, but there's a chance he could be traded. "I love Calgary. This city feels like home to me now," Backlund said. "I'd love to be part of the future here. We'll see what happens this summer, if they want to keep me around, but I like it here and I'm sure we'll figure it out. Hopefully, the right numbers and the right deal." Mikael Backlund scored the winner early on in overtime to help Calgary get back in the series against Anaheim with a 4-3 win on Tuesday.

Backlund couldn't have picked a better time to score his first goal of the postseason with the Flames series hopes on the line. The game never would have gotten to extra frame if not for a late game tying goal by super rookie Johnny Gaudreau. The Flames also got goals from Brandon Bollig and Joe Colborne as their collective efforts on Tuesday got them right back in the series. For Backlund it was just his second point in nine playoff games.

Mikael Backlund hasn't found the back of the net in the 2015 playoffs.

It's not for lack of trying as he has 26 shots on goal in eight contests. "Well … that's the only way you're going to score is if you shoot pucks," Backlund said. "That's what I've been trying to do. The chances have been there, we just haven't capitalized yet." Calgary is down 2-0 in its second round series against Anaheim, so this would be a great time for Backlund to break out of his slump.

Mikael Backlund backed off his comments after Game 5 that he was guaranteeing a victory in Game 6.

Backlund is not claiming to be Joe Namath and said that he did not guarantee a win on Saturday but he stated: "All I said was that there was no way we’re going to lose, and that’s the mindset we’re going to have going into the game. There are no guarantees in life, so why would I guarantee something?"

Mikael Backlund and Sean Monahan scored shorthanded goals during a five minute disadvantage on Friday.

The Flames were killing a five minute major to Lance Bouma and it turned out to be the difference in the game as the Maple Leafs failed to score while the Flames scored on a couple of breakaways. Backlund now has nine goals and 23 points in 38 games and is on a seven game points streak in which he has three goals and four helpers.

Mikael Backlund has three goals and five points in three games since returning from abdominal surgery.

Backlund missed over two months due to the injury. "Backs has been really good," head coach Bob Hartley said. "We’re always talking about guys returning from injury. It's kind of the unknown. With Backs, it has been only positives." Although his hot streak is certainly noteworthy and might persist for a little while longer, Backlund shouldn't be counted on to get more than 25 points in Calgary's final 39 contests.

It came off a neutral zone turnover by the Canucks. Backlund converted a David Jones pass that squeaked by Eddie Lack. Backlund now has goals in three consecutive games, to up his totals to four and nine points in 14 games. Johnny Gaudreau got the other assist.

Backlund earned an assist in his first shift back as Mason Raymond netted a goal less than three minutes into the game. Backlund later potted Calgary's second goal of the game shorthanded to draw the Flames to within one goal. Backlund added four shots on net in 17:54 of ice team as he made his presence felt. The 24th overall pick in the 2007 draft has six points in just 12 games this season. David Jones, T.J. Brodie and Paul Byron all picked up assists in a losing cause.
