With his goal during Thursday's 6-5 shootout win over San Jose, Mikael Backlund is now the proud owner of a three-game point streak.
Backlund has posted goals in each game and added on an assist as well, giving him four points over his last four games. The 26-year-old veteran is now up to 59 goals and 154 points in 351 games, a good rate if your league is deep enough. Feb 12 - 1:53 AM

Mikael Backlund has six assists in his last five games.

Backlund has been part of an effective line with Sam Bennett and Michael Frolik. Bennett has gotten a lot of the credit for their success, but Backlund has done his part too and is reaping the rewards. "Those guys are good players," Bob Hartley said. "Benny has been kind of hot lately. So, I’m happy for him. We just have to keep working and try to talk and build even more chemistry." Backlund isn't a bad pickup right now, provided that this line stays intact.

Mikael Backlund scored and added an assist in the Flames' 4-2 win over the Sharks on Tuesday.

Backlund was named the first star of the game for his efforts which included five shots on net and a plus-1 rating. That is two goals in the last three games for Backlund who has four goals and 11 assists in 27 games this season. Two other Flames recorded multi-point nights against the Sharks as well. Mark Giordano and Dennis Wideman each had two assists.

Mikael Backlund picked up three assists on Saturday.

The trio of helpers all occurred in the first period, Backlund has been terrific this week with a goal and five points in his last two games. Unfortunately he had only one helper in his first 13 games so his overall stats are just okay.

Mikael Backlund was credited for the overtime winner against the Flyers on Thursday night.

Good things happen when you go to the net. Backlund crashed the net as Johnny Gaudreau led a rush in overtime, and his shot just so happened to hit Backlund on the rebound and go in. But hey, it looks like a snipe in the books. Backlund now has two goals and three points this season.

Mikael Backlund spent Saturday as the Flames fourth line center.

He played only 9:22 and that was third least on the Flames as only Brandon Bollig and Mason Raymond saw less time. Backlund was a plus-one with three shots on goal but the fact remains that 12 games into the season he has only one goal without an assist.

Mikael Backlund scored Calgary's only goal in their 3-1 loss to Winnipeg on Friday night.

The goal was Backlund's first of the season. Sam Bennett did most of the heavy lifting on the goal, as he took the puck in Winnipeg's zone and tried a wraparound that Ondrej Pavelec stopped. Fortunately for Backlund, he buried a rebound that came right to him.

Mikael Backlund (undisclosed) was back at practice on Saturday.

Backlund missed the previous three days of practice. He has negligible fantasy value going into drafts as he had only 10 goals and 27 points in 52 games last season.

Mikael Backlund has not practiced the last two days because of an undisclosed injury.

GM Brad Treliving said that it was precautionary so he should be okay to start the season. He had 10 goals and 27 points in 52 games so his fantasy value is negligible.

Updating a previous item, it appears that the Calgary Flames signed Mikael Backlund for three years, $10.725 million.

He'll carry a cap hit of $3.575 million, then. The Flames get a nice deal, as this contract eats up two would-be UFA years. His numbers weren't great in 2014-15, yet Backlund figures to be a key center for Calgary going forward.

The Calgary Flames handed would-be RFA Mikael Backlund a contract extension on Saturday.

Specifics are a little scarce at this time, as the Flames didn't reveal the term (merely calling it "multi-year") and didn't provide any salary details. Regardless, it's helpful to keep the versatile 26-year-old in the fold; he generated 27 points in 52 regular season games along with a goal and an assist in 11 playoff contests in 2014-15.

Mikael Backlund will be a restricted free agent this summer.

He expressed his hope to stay with the Flames, but there's a chance he could be traded. "I love Calgary. This city feels like home to me now," Backlund said. "I'd love to be part of the future here. We'll see what happens this summer, if they want to keep me around, but I like it here and I'm sure we'll figure it out. Hopefully, the right numbers and the right deal." He had 10 goals and 17 assists in 52 games during the regular season and two points in 11 playoff contests.

Mikael Backlund scored the winner early on in overtime to help Calgary get back in the series against Anaheim with a 4-3 win on Tuesday.

Backlund couldn't have picked a better time to score his first goal of the postseason with the Flames series hopes on the line. The game never would have gotten to extra frame if not for a late game tying goal by super rookie Johnny Gaudreau. The Flames also got goals from Brandon Bollig and Joe Colborne as their collective efforts on Tuesday got them right back in the series. For Backlund it was just his second point in nine playoff games.

Mikael Backlund hasn't found the back of the net in the 2015 playoffs.

It's not for lack of trying as he has 26 shots on goal in eight contests. "Well … that's the only way you're going to score is if you shoot pucks," Backlund said. "That's what I've been trying to do. The chances have been there, we just haven't capitalized yet." Calgary is down 2-0 in its second round series against Anaheim, so this would be a great time for Backlund to break out of his slump.

Mikael Backlund backed off his comments after Game 5 that he was guaranteeing a victory in Game 6.

Backlund is not claiming to be Joe Namath and said that he did not guarantee a win on Saturday but he stated: "All I said was that there was no way we’re going to lose, and that’s the mindset we’re going to have going into the game. There are no guarantees in life, so why would I guarantee something?"
