Brendan and Reilly Smith will be on opposing sides in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Brendan plays on Detroit's top defense pairing and Reilly skates on Boston's second line, so the two of them are sure to cross paths in the series. They have faced each other before during the regular season, but there's a lot more on the line now. Apr 16 - 9:39 AM

Brendan Smith generated a goal and an assist in Saturday's win over Minnesota.

He went pointless in his previous six matches. Smith hasn't enjoyed much success offensively this season with four goals and 17 points in 59 games. The goal was also his first on the power play in his brief career.

Brendan Smith will return to the back end Thursday night versus Pittsburgh.

He lined up as a forward in Tuesday's win over Toronto, but in that contest the Red Wings lost Jonathan Ericsson for the rest of the season due to a fractured finger. Smith has three goals and 15 points in 57 games this year.
Mar 20 - 12:18 PM

Defenseman Brendan Smith will serve as a left winger on Tuesday.

Detroit has been hit hard by injuries all season and at this point they have to resort to creative tactics. Smith has 15 points and 52 penalty minutes in 56 games this season. He hasn't served as a forward since he was about 16 and playing in AAA.

Brendan Smith appears to be fine and should be ready to play Sunday in Ottawa.

He seemed to injure himself late in the third period against the Islanders Friday night but apparently just had the wind knocked out of him. Keep Smith active if you need him.

Look for the Red Wings to activate Brendan Smith (shoulder) from injured reserve prior to Tuesday's game versus Nashville.

He's expected to be one of seven defensemen that Detroit will dress on Tuesday night because coach Mike Babcock figures he'll have only 11 forwards in the lineup.

Brendan Smith (shoulder) might be ready to return on Tuesday.

He has missed the last six games because of a shoulder injury. We'll keep you posted on his status even though it's been a tough start to the 2013-14 campaign for the 24-year-old blueliner.

Brendan Smith (shoulder) has been placed on injured reserve.

He logged just over 15 minutes of ice time and picked up 11 penalty minutes in Saturday's 5-0 win over Edmonton. Smith has one assist and a minus-7 rating in 11 games this season, but he still has potential to be a good all-around defender.

Brendan Smith had a minus-three rating in his return to the Red Wings' lineup.

Smith spent four straight games as a healthy scratch, but the Red Wings needed to make a change after Niklas Kronwall suffered a concussion. He's got enough offensive upside to make him interesting, but we can't recommend holding onto Smith in standard leagues at this time.

Brendan Smith will get back into Detroit's lineup Saturday because of Niklas Kronwall is out with a concussion.

He has been a healthy scratch for the last four games. Smith will be paired with Kyle Quincey against Phoenix.

Brendan Smith was a healthy scratch again Monday afternoon.

He has been scratched for Detroit's last two games and the team has won them both, so it's unclear if he'll suit up Tuesday against Columbus. Forwards Tomas Tatar and Mikael Samuelsson have also been healthy scratches for the team's past two contests.

Brendan Smith was caught off guard by the Detroit Red Wings' decision to scratch him on Saturday.

"I'm just not in the plans today, I guess. They didn't say anything," Smith said on Saturday. He has no points and a minus-four rating in four games, but he doesn't think those goals against him were due to a breakdown on his part.

Brendan Smith has agreed to a two-year/$2.525 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

Smith filed for arbitration as a restricted free agent, but this deal makes that hearing moot. He will earn $1.25 million next season and $1.275 million in 2014-15. He had eight assists and 36 penalty minutes in 34 games in 2013.
