Nov 28 - 10:25 AM

The injury that Brendan Smith sustained to his right knee Saturday night seems long-term in nature.

Smith will be undergoing further tests over the next 48 hours but the Wings are bracing themselves for bad news. It appears that the injury is rather serious. If you have Smith on your fantasy roster for some reason, we would drop him.
Nov 27 - 8:39 AM

Brendan Smith suffered a right knee injury during Saturday's match with Montreal.

It was a nasty dip Smith took that buckled his knee and sent him to the ice in obvious pain. He saw 10:40 of action before departing. We'll keep you posted on his status, for he's considered day-to-day.
Nov 26 - 9:22 PM

Brendan Smith will get back into the lineup on Wednesday.

Alexey Marchenko is out of action due to an upper-body injury, so Smith will get a chance to play again after he was scratched for the last two games.
Nov 21 - 4:43 PM

Brendan Smith's playing time could be threatened should Ryan Sproul continue to play well.

Smith was scratched Friday night in favor of Sproul, who fills the same role as Smith. Both defensemen are in the third pair and play on the Wings' second power play. With Jonathan Ericsson and Alexey Marchenko needed for the penalty kill and Niklas Krownwall now healthy, it looks like Detroit Jeff Blashill will choose between Sproul and Smith on a nightly basis.
Nov 20 - 8:52 AM

Brendan Smith will be scratched against Washington on Friday night.

Through 17 games this season, Smith has posted two goals and four points with 15 PIMs, 16 blocks and 24 hits.

Nov 7 - 9:32 AM

Brendan Smith registered a goal and an assist in Detroit's 5-2 loss to Florida on Sunday.

Both of his points came on power-play goals to end the Red Wings' 0-for-18 drought at home this season. Smith didn't have a point in his previous nine outings.
Oct 31 - 10:02 AM

Brendan Smith believes he is in store for a larger role on the Red Wings this season.

"I think the coaches are going to give me a bit more of an opportunity (to play)," Smith said. "I got to grasp that. I thought I played well last year. I just want to continue where I left off. I want to make good defensive passes and contribute offensively. But basically, I want to keep getting better and make more strides going forward." He is hoping to see more minutes and could even see some time on the power play.
Oct 3 - 9:21 AM

Apr 17 - 2:16 PM

Brendan Smith may draw back into the Detroit lineup for Sunday's Game 3 against Tampa.

He has been a healthy scratch for the first two games of the series but Alexey Marchenko hasn't been particularly impressive and Red Wing coach Jeff Blashill will likely shake up his roster a little.
Apr 16 - 9:57 AM

Brendan Smith could be an option for Game 2 on Friday night.

He was a healthy scratch in the first game against Tampa Bay and it was a physical contest. "Brendan brings a toughness that can be an element in those situations," coach Jeff Blashill said. "I'm not worried about guys pushing each other back and forth. That doesn't do much. In fact, the referees did a great job of policing that. What we need to do is make sure that we're taking hits to make plays, that we are making it hard it on them between whistles." If Smith plays then Alexey Marchenko could be in the press box.
