Nov 9 - 2:44 PM

Brendan Smith scored his first goal of the season on Friday night, however the Red Wings fell to the Flames 3-2 in overtime.

It was a pretty tally for Smith as it came on the power play and gave the Wings a 2-1 lead mid way through the first. Of note, the goal was only the 10th of his 199 game career. Smith also skated nearly 22 minutes with over three minutes on special teams.
Oct 24 - 12:10 AM

Brendan Smith will be a healthy scratch for a second straight game Wednesday, but he is expected to get back into the lineup during Detroit's road trip.

"It's not tonight, but whether that'll be Friday or Saturday, expect to see him in the lineup," said coach Jeff Blashill. "It does not necessarily have anything to do how anybody else plays. It'll just be to make sure -we've got to keep guys playing. We think we have seven good ones but I think as a group they can all play better. So that's going to be the first focus." Smith was scratched on Saturday when the Red Wings got Danny DeKeyser back from injury.
Oct 21 - 5:31 PM

Oct 19 - 10:16 AM

Brendan Smith might find himself playing a bigger role for bench boss Jeff Blashill than he did under former coach Mike Babcock.

In particular, Smith might get regular minutes with the man advantage last season after averaging just 0:13 minutes per contests in 2014-15. "I think Brendan’s best offensive ability is roaming around below the tops of the circles," Blashill said. "If he's a weak-side guy on a power play, going to the net lots, he can retreat pucks because he's quick and he’s strong and he’s competitive. He's got good offensive instincts once he gets below tops of circles. I know at (the university of) Wisconsin he was on his off-side hitting one-timers." Smith had four goals and 13 points in 76 contests last season, but he was a much bigger contributor offensively at the AHL and NCAA levels.
Jul 17 - 10:46 AM

The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Brendan Smith to a two-year contract extension.

The Red Wings did not divulge the terms of the deal although sources indicate it's for $2.75 million per season. Smith finished the season with four goals and 13 points so do not expect him to be the next coming of Bobby Orr in your fantasy draft next season.
Jun 30 - 3:48 PM

Brendan Smith will make his 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs debut on Tuesday.

He was a healthy scratch for the first two games in favor of Alexey Marchenko, but that will change in Game 3. Smith was paired with Marek Zidlicky during Monday's practice.
Apr 20 - 2:29 PM

Brendan Smith and Jakub Kindl will be healthy scratches for Game 1 of Detroit's first-round series against Tampa Bay.

Smith was a healthy scratch in Detroit's last regular season game and that will continue on Thursday. The 26-year-old finished the regular season with four goals and 13 points in 76 games. Kindl was a healthy scratch for all but two of Detroit's last 21 games.
