The Colorado Avalanche have assigned Jim O'Brien to AHL San Antonio.
The 27-year-old has just 64 games of NHL action since being drafted 29th overall in 2007 by Ottawa. The journeyman does not boast any fantasy value, unfortunately as a result. Sun, Oct 2, 2016 02:40:00 PM

Jim O'Brien will center the Devils' third line in Friday's match with the Bruins.

This will be the 26-year-old's first taste of NHL hockey since April 2nd, 2013 while with Ottawa. So while his 10 goals and 29 points in 32 games with AHL Albany from last season is impressive, we'd let him prove himself at the NHL level first before placing a claim. O'Brien will center Stefan Matteau and Paul Thompson.

The New Jersey Devils have summoned Jim O'Brien.

Jim O'Brien has signed a one-year, two-way contract worth $575K with the New Jersey Devils.

The 26-year-old forward O'Brien has been a career minor leaguer, playing in just 63 NHL games since being drafted by Ottawa in 2007. Last season he split time with AHL Hershey and Novokuznetsk Metallurg of the KHL, scoring 12 points in 22 games in Russia and 29 points in 32 games in the American League. He is expected to however mainly be a depth player for AHL Albany.

Senators coach Paul MacLean credits the team's strong farm system as the reason Jim O'Brien didn't make the team.

O'Brien inked a two-year, one-way deal over the summer. "I think he's a casualty of the Ottawa Senators doing a good job at the draft table and doing a good job of developing players," MacLean said. "They're players that have come after him and developed and they end up being better players. That's what it is." He had five goals and an assist in 29 games last season.

Jim O'Brien has cleared waivers and was assigned to Binghamton of the AHL.

With the emergence of both Mika Zibanejad and Jean-Gabriel Pageau there was no longer a place for O'Brien in Ottawa.

Jim O'Brien was placed on waivers Thursday.

The move isn't a surprise as he was believed to be an odd-man out among a crowded group at center. The Senators also placed goaltender Nathan Lawson, forward Corey Cowick and defenseman Tyler Eckford on waivers with the intention of assigning them to the minors.

Jim O'Brien might find himself on waivers next week.

He's sits behind Jason Spezza, Kyle Turris, Mika Zibanejad, Zack Smith and Jean-Gabriel Pageau on the team's depth chart down the middle. O'Brien scored a goal off his skate in Tuesday's exhibition win over Toronto. In 29 games last season, he notched six points and 38 shots.

Jim O'Brien scored the only Ottawa goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Bruins Thursday night.

The power play marker was the fifth of the campaign for O'Brien, a figure that amazingly leads all Ottawa forwards and stands only one tally behind the injured Erik Karlsson for the team lead. Kaspars Daugavins and Zack Smith drew assists on the goal.

Jim O'Brien has inked a two-year contract extension with the Ottawa Senators.

O'Brien scored three goals and six points in 28 games with the Ottawa Senators last season. He'll compete for a bottom-six forward spot during training camp.

Senators coach Paul MacLean has been happy with Jim O'Brien since he was called up on Feb. 3.

"Down the road right now is where he is right now," said MacLean. "That's where I would say at this point he's going to stay, in that third-, fourth-line centre spot, killing penalties. He's a right-handed centre, he can help us out." O'Brien netted his first career NHL goal on Wednesday.

Jim O'Brien potted his first career goal in Wednesday's win over Florida.

The Ottawa Senators have called up Jim O'Brien.

O'Brien has seven goals and 14 points in 27 AHL games this season. He hasn't played with Ottawa since the 2010-11 campaign, but that could change on Friday.

Jim O'Brien may have a very good chance to break camp with the Senators next season.

Ottawa GM Bryan Murray believes O'Brien has what it takes to be an NHLer. "I still think he’s got another step in him. I really think having the year he had down here will be a big benefit to him and with another good summer, he has a chance to be a real good role player, a determined, hard working kid who could be a match-up type centre or winger, used as a defensive type of guy who can also score some goals", said Murray. Despite the high praise, O'Brien doesn't figure to have any fantasy value going forward.
