Anton Khudobin doesn't feel like he's earned Carolina's number one goalie job yet.
He wants to compete with Cam Ward at training camp to get the nod on opening night. Khudobin would've been the team's starter had Ward been traded, but he's still glad that didn't happen. "He knows what kind of relationship we have," Khudobin said. "I'm happy we are still both on the same team. We had a good relationship last year and we were partners. We were pushing each other, and that's most important." Sep 11 - 5:00 PM

Carolina Hurricanes coach Bill Peters is looking for his number one netminder to play 60 games this season.

The duo of Anton Khudobin and Cam Ward go into training camp with no clear number one goaltender at this time. Ward has been the top goalie in Carolina since winning the Stanley Cup in 2006 but has been injury-prone in the last few years while Khudobin has had a fine last two seasons, one with the Bruins and last season with the Hurricanes where he was 19-14-1 with a .926 save percentage to go with a 2.30 GAA. The Hurricanes play seven pre-season games and start the season on October 10. It should be interesting and we think that Khudobin holds a slight edge heading into camp.
Sep 6 - 7:28 AM

Anton Khudobin feels his performance during the 2013-14 campaign earned him Carolina's starting job and Cam Ward's injury wasn't the deciding factor.

"It's hard to say what was more important, if Ward's injury or my game. But probably my game, because even if Ward wouldn't get injured and I wouldn't play that way, they wouldn't play me that often," he said. "So, maybe it was all this put together. I was injured myself earlier, and some other guys stepped up and played well. Maybe those times I was unlucky. But this time it was the other way around. Injuries never are a good situation for any player, but all went that way." Khudobin outplayed Ward last season and the two of them are slated to compete for starts again this year.
Aug 12 - 9:11 PM

Thanks to the Carolina Hurricanes' 6-5 (SO) win against the Philadelphia Flyers, Anton Khudobin notched his 19th win of the season.

Injuries and commitments to Cam Ward limited Khudobin to 36 games played, but he showed why he might be "the guy" in Carolina going forward, as he improved his record to 19-14-1 with a strong .926 save percentage and 2.30 GAA on the season.
Apr 13 - 7:41 PM

Apr 13 - 2:45 PM

Anton Khudobin suffered a nightmarish performance in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Capitals.

Khudobin has been a breath of fresh air for the struggling Hurricanes this year, but he didn't have it on this night, allowing five goals on 21 shots in the defeat. His record falls to 18-14-1 while his GAA is 2.19 and his save percentage is .927.

He has been excellent for he Hurricanes this season, while sporting a .931 save percentage (2nd in the league) and a 2.14 goals-against average (7th in the league). "What we really like him, other than the results, is if you watch him in practice he's our hardest-working guy," coach Kirk Muller said. "He challenges players every day to score on him. He spends extra time on the ice. Because of that work ethic that's a big reason he has had the success this year."
Apr 10 - 1:54 PM

Anton Khudobin flicked away 20 shots in Carolina's 3-1 loss to the Devils on Saturday night.

Apr 5 - 10:01 PM

Anton Khudobin made 33 saves in Carolina's 4-1 win over the Stars on Thursday night.

Khudobin has been one of the few bright spots in a disappointing season for the Hurricanes. He's clearly done his part this season to enter the 2014-15 campaign as the top netminder. He has helped the Hurricanes earn at least a point in four straight games. He has a 2.15 goals-against average and .931 save percentage this season.
Apr 3 - 9:54 PM

Anton Khudobin will probably get the nod for Carolina on Thursday night.

He was in the starting goaltender's crease during the morning skate, so it's likely that he'll face Dallas. Cam Ward played well in Monday's shootout loss to Ottawa, but Khodubin was also impressive in Tuesday's 4-1 win against Pittsburgh.
Apr 3 - 11:27 AM

Anton Khudobin looked great on Tuesday night, making 30 saves against the high-octane Penguins offense and leading the Canes to a 4-1 win.

Khudobin is 17-12-1 this season with a .930 save percentage and 2.18 goals against average. The Kazakh's play has trailed off since a remarkable month of January, but he is still the Canes' go-to guy due to his strong play and Cam Ward's weak performances.
Apr 1 - 11:27 PM

Khudobin faced 35 shots in the victory and stopped each and every one of them to earn his first shutout of the season, the third of his career. By any reliable measure, the former member of the Bruins and Wild has outplayed the incumbent Cam Ward this season and stands a very good chance of stealing playing time away going forward. His record is now 16-12-0 while his GAA is 2.20 and his save percentage is .929.
Mar 27 - 11:16 PM

Anton Khudobin will get the nod for Carolina in Thursday's game against Florida.
