Buffalo coach Ron Rolston likes the leadership that Mike Weber displayed during the 2013 season.
"Mike Weber is one of those players that made a real big jump this year in terms of what he meant to our hockey team, how he plays the game, just the potential that he has to continue to grow on this team," Rolston said. "It put a player like Mike in more of a leadership role because of what he did and because of the minutes that he had. He was in the lineup every night blocking shots, sacrificing for his teammates. He's put himself in a situation where he can be one of those guys that are in the room and holding guys accountable." He suited up in 42 of the Sabres' 48 games after starting as a healthy scratch and was voted as the "Unsung Hero" by his teammates. Weber won't provide you with many points, but he can chip in PIMs, blocks and hits. May 17 - 8:19 AM

Mike Weber was credited with eight blocked shots in Saturday's win against Montreal.

That's one less than the entire Canadiens' team was given at the end of the contest. Weber has accounted for five points, 48 penalty minutes, 80 hits and 56 blocks in 26 games this season.

Mike Weber made his season debut on Tuesday night.

He was a healthy scratch for the team previous five games. Weber had an eventful showing with one assist, a plus-1 rating and 17 minutes in penalties during his 13:15 of ice time. He was assessed 17 minutes in the sin bin when he stood up for teammate Patrick Kaleta late in the first period after the Buffalo forward was hit from behind by Toronto's Mike Brown.

Mike Weber has decided to head over to Norway during the lockout.

The Sabres defenseman inked a deal with Lorenskog. "He wanted to wait to sign awhile, but now it looks like the lockout is prolonged," Lorenskog sports director Atle Olsen said. The 25-year-old played in 51 games last year, recording five points, 64 penalty minutes and a minus-19 rating.

Mike Weber returned to action on Tuesday night against Toronto.

He played 12:28 of ice time after missing one game with an upper-body injury. Weber had two shots on goal in the contest, but he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.

Mike Weber (upper body) may be back in Buffalo's lineup on Tuesday depending on how he feels following the morning skate.

He was injured on a hit from Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke last Friday and wasn't able to play on Saturday as a result. "I got pushed face-first, shoulder-down with my neck kind of turned in there," said Weber, who is still suffering from stiffness. "I tried [to return] a couple times and the training staff worked hard but I couldn't battle and you can't hurt the team out there."

Mike Weber didn't play on Saturday in Toronto because of an upper-body injury.

The Sabres defense corps was already shorthanded due to the absences of Christian Ehrhoff (knee) and Tyler Myers (foot). Weber has appeared in 48 games this season, while posting five points, a minus-19 rating and 58 penalty minutes.

Mike Weber returned to Buffalo's lineup on Tuesday after missing 11 games with a broken rib.

The Buffalo Sabres decided to dress seven defensemen against Ottawa. Weber saw 16:31 of ice time and earned one shot in the team's 3-2 overtime defeat. He doesn't have any fantasy value.

Mike Weber (upper body) has been given the green light to return to the Sabres' lineup.

We're not sure if Weber will play on Tuesday, but he will be available. He has no points and a minus-five rating in three games this season.

Mike Weber (upper body) isn't taking any contact during Monday's practice.

Weber has missed five straight games due to the injury. He shouldn't be counted on to play Tuesday.

Mike Weber suffered an upper-body injury Wednesday night.

"Mike sustained an injury that may take some time," coach Lindy Ruff said. "I don't know exactly when it happened." Weber appeared in two straight games for the first this time this season on Wednesday, but now he'll have to miss some action due to injury.

Mike Weber turned in a superb performance for Buffalo in Monday's win over Montreal and is hoping to stay in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against New Jersey.

"I always hope to stay in," said Weber, who logged 22:14 of ice time in the place of scratched blueliner Tyler Myers. "I know I can play. I know I can play those big minutes like I did [Monday] night. Again, it's not in my hands. I can only do what I did [Monday] night and let them control the other things. We'll see." Myers will likely be back in on Wednesday, but it hasn't been determined yet where Weber fits into the equation. Stay tuned for updates.
Wed, Nov 16, 2011 06:45:00 AM

Mike Weber will appear in his first game of the 2011-12 season on Wednesday night.

"The bottom line is I need [Weber] to play before he gets so frustrated we lose him and that is the bottom line," said coach Lindy Ruff. "He's worked hard. A player gets to the point where you've got to get him in. He was an important part of our team. He played good minutes. He played hard. They got some players we'd like to play hard against so this game is a good fit for him." He will play alongside Robyn Regehr and Marc-Andre Gragnani will be a healthy scratch.

Mike Weber might make his season debut on Tuesday night against Philadelphia.

Marc-Andre Gragnani didn't practice with either power play combination on Tuesday, which may signal his departure from the lineup. Coach Lindy Ruff wouldn't confirm if that was the case though, so stay tuned for more.
Wed, Nov 2, 2011 06:49:00 AM

Mike Weber has spent nine straight games in the press box.

"I have to trust the coaching staff and know they're trying to do what it takes to win right now and that I'll get my chance," Weber said. "And when I get my chance, I'll do the same thing I did last year." Weber ended up with a solid 17 points, plus-13 rating, and 69 penalty minutes in 58 games last season. The Sabres have a pretty strong group of blueliners this season, so it's hard to see Weber getting too much playing time unless someone suffers an injury.
