Justin Peters has completed his AHL conditioning stint and returned to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The timing of this means that the Hurricanes don't have to use one of their four post-trade deadline recalls on Peters. It's also possible that the Hurricanes will trade Peters now that they've inked Anton Khudobin to a two-year, $4.5 million contract. Mar 5 - 11:05 AM

Justin Peters has been sent to AHL Charlotte for a conditioning stint.

That will allow Peters to keep sharp over the Olympic break. He has a 2.50 GAA and .919 save percentage in 21 games with Carolina in 2013-14.

To say the least, it wasn't a positive return to the mix for Carolina Hurricanes goalie Justin Peters.

He was pulled after allowing three goals on seven shots in just 15:07 of game time. Anton Khudobin actually was credited with the loss, but this probably strengthened Carolina's commitment to Khudobin amid Cam Ward's injury concerns. Tampa Bay beat Carolina 5-3 on Sunday.

Coach Kirk Muller wants to get Justin Peters into a game soon, but Anton Khudobin is projected to start Saturday night against Florida.

"We definitely want to get (Peters) in," Muller said. "Like I've said, we'll keep going game to game. This stretch from here to the Olympics is a whole different one from the previous one, where we've had space in there to use one goalie. We're definitely going to need two goalies down the stretch." A good time to get Peters into the crease could be Sunday's contest versus Tampa Bay.

Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford is open to trading one of the Hurricanes' goaltenders in an effort to clear the logjam.

The rise of Justin Peters has put Carolina in a position where they'll have three goalies that all deserve to be in the NHL once Anton Khudobin returns from his conditioning stint. However, it's rarely simple to trade a goaltender as it's rare for teams to both have the need for a netminder, an opening where acquiring one midseason wouldn't create a logjam, and the desire to resort to a trade to get one.

Justin Peters will get the nod for Carolina on Friday.

It will be his third straight start and his fifth appearance in the Hurricanes' last six games. Peters has picked up just one victory in his past five outings (1-2-2), but he appears to have a leg up on Cam Ward right now.

Carolina coach Kirk Muller said that the Hurricanes would not have picked up a point on Saturday if not for the outstanding netminding of Justin Peters.

Peters stopped 47 shots in the 3-2 overtime loss to the Lightning. "Our goalie stole a point for us tonight," Muller said. "Obviously, he was the difference for us." Peters is now 7-8-3 with a 2.20 GAA and a .930 save percentage. His status on the Hurricanes may be in doubt however as Anton Khudobin is slated to return as the backup to Cam Ward. Stay tuned.

Justin Peters stood on his head for Carolina, but it wasn't enough in its 3-2 overtime loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday night.

Peters faced a whopping 50 shots (compared to only 27 on net for the Hurricanes) and made 47 saves, so this loss is certainly not hung on him. In fact, he's the reason Carolina even emerged with a point to begin with. He has a 2.20 goals-against average and .930 save percentage this season.

Justin Peters earned a victory in his second straight start Thursday as the Hurricanes knocked off Nashville by a score of 5-2.

Peters was rewarded for his strong effort in Tuesday's win over the Capitals and managed put forth another good outing. His is no danger to Cam Ward's long-term playing time, but he could get a few more looks in the short run.
