Justin Peters yielded five goals on 26 shots in Washington’s 5-4 loss to the Stars on Saturday night.
Peters was making his first start since Nov. 29, a span of 21 consecutive games for Braden Holtby. Peters has not been good — with a 3.51 goals-against average and .864 save percentage — but the Capitals need to give him more time between the pipes to get him into a rhythm and give Holtby more time off. Holtby is due to make around 70 starts. Jan 17 - 11:12 PM

Justin Peters will get a rare start on Saturday.

Braden Holtby has played in 21 consecutive games heading into action on Saturday. Peters is 2-3-1 with a 3.28 GAA and a .872 save percentage. Use him at your own risk.

Justin Peters has been assigned to AHL Hershey for a conditioning stint.

The Capitals made their intentions known on Thursday, but now it's actually happened. Peters is expected to stay in the minors over the weekend before rejoining the Capitals. This move was made because the Capitals have exclusively used Braden Holtby for over a month now.
Jan 9 - 12:21 PM

The Washington Capitals intend to loan Justin Peters to AHL Hershey for conditioning this weekend.

He is slated to join the Capitals' AHL affiliate in Albany on Friday, according to coach Barry Trotz. The Bears play on Friday and Sunday. Peters hasn't seen NHL action since Nov. 29. Braden Holtby will make his 23rd straight start on Thursday versus Philadelphia.
Jan 8 - 5:40 PM

Justin Peters is waiting for his next opportunity to play for Washington.

"It's just part of the job," Peters said. "Ideally, I want to play every night. Same with Braden and he's playing great. I want the same thing. I'm a competitive guy. But it's not happening and I just need to be patient." Braden Holtby got the nod on Monday and Tuesday before the Christmas break. The Capitals don't have another back-to-back situation until Jan. 7 and 8. Peters hasn't started since Nov. 29 when he was pulled in a 6-2 loss to Toronto.

Justin Peters played two periods in the Capitals’ 6-2 loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

The Capitals goaltenders in general had a pretty miserable night. Peters, who was pulled for the second then came back for the third, gave up three goals on 11 shots, good for a .727 save percentage. In relief, Braden Holtby allowed three to get by him in the second period on 12 shots, good for a .750 save percentage. Peters has a 3.28 goals-against average and .872 save percentage on the year.

Justin Peters gave up four goals on 34 shots in the Capitals’ 4-1 loss to the Blues on Saturday night.

Peters has proven to be a sieve between the pipes in Washington. The expectation was that he’d come over and provide some veteran experience as a backup behind Braden Holtby. Instead, he’s been a liability with a 3.15 goals-against average and .882 save percentage. You need two good goalies in the NHL nowadays, and right now, the Caps don’t have them.

Justin Peters gave up three goals on 27 shots, but he was bailed out by his teammates in the Capitals’ 4-3 overtime win over the Hurricanes.

Goaltending has not been the Capitals’ strength in the early going, and the thought was that Barry Trotz’s attention to defense and detail would benefit the netminders. Peters has a 2.98 goals-against average and .882 save percentage this season.

Justin Peters allowed six goals on 30 shots in Washington's 6-5 loss to Arizona.

It's always difficult to digest a loss after your team scores five goals, but the Capitals weren't very good in their own end tonight. The 28-year-old is now 1-2-1 with a 3.04 goals-against-average to go along with an .880 save-percentage.

Justin Peters will be between the pipes on Sunday as the Capitals host the Arizona Coyotes.

Peters is 1-1-1 this season with a 2.01 GAA and a .914 save percentage as he has not played in a week. Adjust your lineups if needed.

Justin Peters allowed three goals on 33 shots in Washington's 4-2 loss to Vancouver on Sunday.

The Canucks' fourth goal was scored with Peters on the bench in favor of an extra attacker. Despite the loss on Sunday, Peters has provided Washington with some steady goaltending as Braden Holtby's backup. The 28-year-old has a 2.01 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage in three starts this season.

Justin Peters made 20 saves in the Capitals’ 2-1 shootout win Saturday night.

The Capitals just might have their goaltending situation figured out this season. Braden Holtby has the ability to be a very good number one, while Peters fits the mold as a steady backup. He has a 1.50 goals-against average and .919 save percentage this season. The Capitals are 3-0-2.

Look for Justin Peters to get a start in net for Washington in the next two games.

Braden Holtby has played well between the pipes for the Capitals but coach Barry Trotz needs to get Peters some game action. "In the next two games, how’s that?" Trotz said when queried when Peters will play.

The Capitals like Justin Peters' upside, so they decided to sign him rather than seek a goaltender with a proven track record.

"He's still a young guy," GM Brian MacLellan said. "He's a good teammate, he gets along with the number one guys he's played with. So we thought it was a match that way. If you bring in an older, experienced guy, it's going to cost you more money, it was going to cost us more money, and it might have been a little more pressure on Holtby. We wanted to send a message to Holtby that he was our number one guy." It sounds like Peters will compete for the team's backup position with Philipp Grubauer at training camp.
