Justin Peters has been waived by Washington.
The Capitals also put defensemen Aaron Ness and Ryan Stanton on waivers. Peters was expected to be sent down to the minors because Phillip Grubauer was considered the favorite to start the year as Braden Holtby's understudy. Mon, Oct 5, 2015 01:06:00 PM

Justin Peters stopped all 15 shots he faced in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime loss to Boston.

Peters started the game and was perfect when he exited after 29:43 of duty. He was replaced by Philipp Grubauer, who stopped 15 of 17 shots in the game. Either one of these goaltenders could end up being Brayden Holtby's backup this season, but neither will carry any significant fantasy value. Peters had a 3-6-1 record with a 3.25 goals-against-average and a .881 save percentage last season.

Washington Capitals depth goalie Justin Peters has been cleared for "pre-season action."

Peters underwent knee surgery on August 10, leading some to believe that he might not be ready for the 2015-16 season. It doesn't appear as though he'll start off as the No. 2 option in Washington, so he needs to prove that he belongs in the NHL whenever he does get chances. Being healthy would be a key part of that.

Justin Peters had successful surgery on his left knee Monday.

The Capitals expect him to be ready for training camp. Peters had been rehabbing a sore knee over the off-season that wasn't progressing as expected. Phillip Grubauer has the inside track to be Washington's backup goaltender, which could result in Peters going on waivers, with the intention of sending him to the minors, before the start of the 2015-16 campaign.

Justin Peters is likely over his lower-body injury.

That's based on the fact that the Capitals have sent goalie Philipp Grubauer to the minors. Peters has a 3.38 GAA and .879 save percentage in 11 contests in 2014-15.

Justin Peters missed practice on Saturday after sustaining a lower body injury on Friday.

Petes saw action on Friday in relief of Braden Holtby and is considered questionable for Sunday's contest. Even if he is healthy enough to play, Braden Holtby should get the start.

Justin Peters relieved Braden Holtby after the fourth goal Friday and shut down the Dallas Stars the remainder of the way.

It did not do any good as the Capitals lost 4-2 Friday night with Peters stopping all nine shots sent his way. Peters remains 3-5-1 this season and lowered his GAA to 3.38 while raising his save percentage to .879.

Justin Peters stopped 30 of 33 shots in Sunday's 5-3 win over Anaheim.

Peters' winless slump is finally over. The Capitals' backup goaltender had previously lost three consecutive starts but he hadn't collected a win since November 8th. It's a good thing that Braden Holtby has been a rock between the pipes for Washington, because Peters' numbers haven't been very flattering. His record improves to 3-5-1 and he has an ugly 3.52 goals-against-average and a .875 save percentage.

Justin Peters will get the start in Sunday's game against Anaheim.

The 28-year-old has a 2-5-1 record with a 3.58 goals-against-average and a .870 save percentage in 9 games this season. He has dropped three consecutive starts and hasn't won a game since November 8th.

Justin Peters allowed four goals on 40 shots in Washington's 4-3 loss to St. Louis on Sunday.

Peters made some key saves when the game was close, but he was unable to pick up the win. As good as starter Braden Holtby has been for Washington, Peters has been nothing more than average. His record falls to 2-5-1 with a 3.58 goals-against-average and a .870 save percentage. He has lost three straight decisions, and he hasn't won a game since November 8th.

Justin Peters will get the starts against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.

Braden Holtby was fantastic in a 1-0 overtime loss to Montreal on Saturday, but the Capitals will give him a rest today. Peters is 2-4-1 with a 3.52 goals-against-average and a .864 save percentage.

Justin Peters yielded five goals on 26 shots in Washington’s 5-4 loss to the Stars on Saturday night.

Peters was making his first start since Nov. 29, a span of 21 consecutive games for Braden Holtby. Peters has not been good — with a 3.51 goals-against average and .864 save percentage — but the Capitals need to give him more time between the pipes to get him into a rhythm and give Holtby more time off. Holtby is due to make around 70 starts.

Justin Peters will get a rare start on Saturday.

Braden Holtby has played in 21 consecutive games heading into action on Saturday. Peters is 2-3-1 with a 3.28 GAA and a .872 save percentage. Use him at your own risk.

Justin Peters has been assigned to AHL Hershey for a conditioning stint.

The Capitals made their intentions known on Thursday, but now it's actually happened. Peters is expected to stay in the minors over the weekend before rejoining the Capitals. This move was made because the Capitals have exclusively used Braden Holtby for over a month now.

The Washington Capitals intend to loan Justin Peters to AHL Hershey for conditioning this weekend.

He is slated to join the Capitals' AHL affiliate in Albany on Friday, according to coach Barry Trotz. The Bears play on Friday and Sunday. Peters hasn't seen NHL action since Nov. 29. Braden Holtby will make his 23rd straight start on Thursday versus Philadelphia.
