Kris Russell scored a goal and registered an assist in Edmonton's 6-4 loss to Toronto Thursday night.
That was Russell's second multi-point game of the 2017-18 campaign. He has two goals and 11 points in 26 contests. Given that he only had 13 points in 2016-17, this season is proving to be a big bounce back for him. He might even reach the 30-point milestone for the second time in his career. Dec 1 - 6:55 AM

Kris Russell generated a goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Vancouver.

Russell opened the scoring with his first goal of the year just 1:08 into the contest. His assist came in the third period on a power-play marker by Ryan-Nugent Hopkins.
Oct 8 - 1:44 AM

Kris Russell was scoreless with three shots on goal and seven blocked shots in Wednesday's win against the Flames.

Russell was busy sacrificing his body against his former teammates, doing what he does best. He also notched a hit and a minor penalty in 17:36 of TOI. He isn't much of a threat to score, but he'll dole out a handful of hits while racking up tremendous blocked shot totals to make him a crowd pleaser, especially in DFS.
Oct 5 - 1:10 AM

The Edmonton Oilers and Kris Russell have agreed to a four-year, $16 million contract extension.

That follows a report Thursday night that Russell and the Oilers were close to inking a trade that was for exactly that length and financial term. The report also suggested that he'd get a full no-movement clause, so we'll see if that part proves to be accurate as well. Russell's deal is a bit of a controversial one as he looks pretty bad from a Corsi/Fenwick perspective and hasn't brought much to the table offensively over the last two seasons. He does block a lot of shots though and averaged 21:13 minutes per game with Edmonton in 2016-17.
Jun 23 - 2:05 PM

The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly close to re-signing Kris Russell to a four-year, $16 million contract extension.

Russell's contract would also come with a full no-movement clause. Russell was limited to a goal and 13 points in 68 games in 2016-17, but he did average 21:13 minutes per game. From an advanced statistics perspective he also leaves something to be desired as his teams tend to do better in terms of Corsi and Fenwick when he's off the ice rather than on it. On the plus side, he does usually block over 200 shots per season, including 213 in 2016-17. His expiring contract was a one-year, $3.1 million deal.
Jun 22 - 11:50 PM

Vegas GM George McPhee has contacted Kris Russell's agent.

"We've had preliminary talks. I'm waiting to hear back (Tuesday)," agent Allain Roy said. "They did get back to me but it was on another guy (client on another NHL team). There's a lot of guys (in play with Vegas)." Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli wants to get Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl signed first, but there have been preliminary talks with Russell.

Kris Russell's agent spoke briefly with the Oilers on Tuesday.

Kris Russell would love to re-sign with the Edmonton Oilers.

Russell, who is a native of Alberta and a pending UFA, had a great season with Edmonton as a defensive minded blueliner, alongside Andrej Sekera. He inked a one-year deal with the Oilers in the off-season and both sides were more than satisfied with the results. "They showed faith in me by going out and signing me," Russell said Friday. "I love playing here. It’s a first class organization. They treat you very well. The group inside is great. I think this team obviously has a bright future. I wish we were still playing, but I think this team grew a lot." Stay tuned.
