It was hoped that he would be OK to play even though he missed two straight practices, but that won't be the case. Consider him day-to-day for the time being.

Helm missed a second straight practice on Tuesday after he didn't skate on Monday. Coach Jeff Blashill said Helm was injured Saturday, but he's "hoping it's just a bruise. Pain tolerance kind of thing."

Darren Helm opened the scoring in Monday's 3-2 win at Vancouver with an even-strength marker, with assists from Justin Abdelkader and Frans Nielsen.

Helm posted just one goal and three points through his first 12 contests, but he has netted two goals with four points over his past four games. The Red Wings need a secondary and tertiary scoring line to step up, and Helm is definitely doing his part to give the team a little more offensive punch. Still, the 30-year-old veteran should only be owned in the deepest of pools until the points become a little more frequent.
