Helm set up goals by Niklas Kronwall (1-1) in the first period and Luke Glendenning's first goal of the game which made it 3-1 for Detroit. Helm then extended his team's lead to 4-1 at the 6:21 mark of the third frame. The 31-year-old had a plus-2 rating and three shots on goal in 16:13 of ice time. Helm now has 10 goals and 28 points in 70 games this season. His eight-game goalless drought is officially a thing of the past.

Helm then gave the Wings a 4-1 lead when he converted on a breakaway in the third period. He finished the night with a plus-3 rating, two penalty minutes and four shots on goal in 15:30 of ice time. The 31-year-old is up to five goals and 16 points in 43 games this season. This was Helm's second multi-point effort of 2017-18.
