Jonas Hiller allowed three goals on 32 shots Sunday, but the Ducks found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-2 score against Detroit in Game Seven of their first round playoff series.
The Swiss goaltender endured a difficult regular season that saw him momentarily cede control of the number one job to Viktor Fasth, but his playoff performance should lead to renewed faith, even if the team wasn't able to advance beyond the first round. May 13 - 1:01 AM

Date:

The Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings will face off in Game 7 Sunday.

The series is tied at three apiece and while the Ducks have yet to lose in regulation time, they have lost three of the four games that have gone into overtime. The Ducks will face Los Angeles in Round 2 should they win while the Red Wings would play the Blackhawks if they prevail.
May 12 - 6:23 AM

Jonas Hiller kicked out 25 of 29 shots in Anaheim's 4-3 overtime loss Friday night.

Hiller allowed two goals on nine shots in the third period. The Anaheim Ducks had a chance to advance to the second round tonight, but fell short. They'll end this series with Game 7 on Sunday.
May 10 - 11:09 PM

The Anaheim Ducks won 3-2 in OT against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday in large part because of Jonas Hiller's work.

Hiller stopped 29 out of 31 shots for his third victory of his series. He's been very strong in Anaheim's three wins and a little down in the two defeats, but overall he's been a go-to guy for Anaheim.
May 9 - 1:19 AM

Jonas Hiller started his fourth straight game in net, stopping 46 shots in the Ducks' overtime loss Monday night.

Hiller was probably the best player on the ice for most of the game and the Ducks probably wouldn't have gotten to overtime if not for him. In four games this series, Hiller's really only had one sub-par performance, which is why backup Viktor Fasth is likely to remain on the bench for the remainder of the series. "He's played great for us the entire series. I think going forward, he's definitely going to be our guy. I think tonight he played exceptional as always," Kyle Palmieri said Monday night.
May 7 - 8:19 AM

Jonas Hiller stopped 46 of 49 shots in the Anaheim Ducks' 3-2 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night.

It's really hard to fault Hiller for this one as the Wings threw puck after puck at him, racking up 41 shots before overtime even began. The Swiss netminder was up to the challenge, consistently turning away Detroit's point shots and keeping the Ducks in the game before Damien Brunner batted home a loose puck off a rebound in overtime. The series is now tied at 2 and has all the feeling of a seven-game classic.
May 7 - 12:05 AM

Jonas Hiller saved all 23 Red Wings shots in a 4-0 victory Saturday night.

There was some question as to whether Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau should replace Hiller after the Ducks' 5-4 overtime loss in Game 2. Boudreau stood by Hiller and he certainly looks good for doing so. Hiller never had to stop more than nine shots in a single period, but he did everything he needed to tonight and as a result Anaheim has a 2-1 series lead.
May 4 - 10:25 PM

Goaltender Jonas Hiller will be between the pipes when the Anaheim Ducks visit Detroit to confront the Red Wings for the third game in their best-of-seven, opening-round playoff series.

The series is tied 1-1. Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said Hiller was terrific in Game 1, less so in Game 2. But he had a highlight save on Pavel Datsyuk late in regulation to allow the Ducks to reach overtime. "I thought there was some great saves," Boudreau said. "And some saves he should have had. But I don't think on a couple of them that the play in front of him was very good either. If you start pulling guys after they make one mistake, then they'll be afraid to play the game. So they've gotta be able to play the game without fear of things happening to them."
May 4 - 9:38 AM

Jonas Hiller allowed five goals on 32 shots in Game 2 as the Ducks fell to the Red Wings 5-4 in overtime.

Hiller wasn't sharp in this one, allowing five goals, and possibly losing his spot as starting goalie in game three to Viktor Fasth. Hiller is a good goalie, but the 30 year old rookie Fasth was his equal this season, and a performance like this may be enough to give the Swede his first taste of NHL caliber playoff hockey. For those who have Hiller, you may have lost your goalie for the foreseeable future considering the success Fasth has had this season.
May 3 - 3:51 AM

Jonas Hiller was good when he had to be, as he turned aside 21 of 22 shots in the Ducks’ 3-1 win over the Red Wings on Tuesday.

Hiller was huge down the stretch for Anaheim and claimed the team’s postseason starting goaltending spot thanks in large part to his previous playoff experience. He proved Bruce Boudreau right on Tuesday, coming up big throughout the third period to preserve Anaheim’s lead. Viktor Fasth won’t touch the Ducks net if Hiller continues this type of play.
May 1 - 1:17 AM

Jonas Hiller was the first goalie off the ice Tuesday morning and should start Game 1 against the Detroit Red Wings.

This isn't much of a surprise. While rookie backup Viktor Fasth might end up sharing time in net, it's likely Hiller's net to lose. We'll have to see how this situation plays out over the Ducks' first-round series with the Wings.
Apr 30 - 2:03 PM

The Anaheim Ducks limited the Vancouver Canucks to just nine shots on goal in the first 40 minutes of Thursday's game.

The Ducks rested a number of their players as they shift their focus to the playoffs. "It was great for us," said Hiller. "I thought, especially the first two periods, we found a way to put a lot of pressure on them. I think we played our best if we put pressure on them. Forecheck hard, first guy gets in there and hits them. That's what those guys who got a chance to play tonight did. They wanted to show they might also want to be in the lineup when the playoffs start." That all being said, Vancouver finally broke out in a big way with 20 shots on goal in the final 20 minutes of play. Hiller managed to hold on and lead Anaheim to a 3-1 victory.
Apr 26 - 8:42 AM

Jonas Hiller made 28 saves in the Ducks 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Hiller will more than likely begin the playoffs as the Ducks starter in the playoffs, but he will be on a short leash thanks to how well Viktor Fasth has played. The Ducks are one of the favorites in the West but unfortunately, the Blackhawks and Ducks both like the split time between their goalies so it makes for a tough choice on draft day. If you want to pick the Ducks goalie though, Hiller is your favorite.
Apr 26 - 2:02 AM

Jonas Hiller was solid Sunday as the Ducks dumped Edmonton by a score of 3-1.

Hiller blocked 27 of the 28 shots he faced and earned his first victory since an April 8th win over these same Oilers.
Apr 21 - 11:20 PM

Jonas Hiller allowed two goals on 30 shots and took the loss in Friday’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Calgary Flames.

Facing a Flames team hoping to play spoiler in the Ducks’ pursuit of second place in the West, Calgary played a great game although the Ducks nearly prevailed with a late goal to make it 2-1 with four minutes remaining. Calgary was able to add insurance with Hiller on the bench.
