Jonas Hiller has recovered from appendicitis.
"I talked to him the other day and he's back, 100 percent, skating, working out," Flames GM Brad Treliving told the Calgary Herald last Thursday. "He's been back in his routine, fully functional, and no issues." He had an arthroscopic procedure in mid-July. Hiller will be Calgary's top goaltender this season, but if he falters then Karri Ramo is waiting to play in his place. Aug 18 - 6:36 PM

Jonas Hiller (appendicitis) should be fully recovered well before training camp starts.

"The procedure nowadays . . . they can do it arthroscopically," said Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving. "They're saying within nine to 12 days, you're up and back to normal. (Hiller's agent) felt by next week that he's right back in the swing of things. The hope and the plan and the expectation right now is that there's no long recovery period." Hiller signed a two-year, $9 million contract with Calgary in July. He's projected to start the season as the Flames' number one goaltender.
Jul 25 - 9:26 AM

Jonas Hiller had a minor procedure as a result of his appendicitis attack.

Hiller is expected to have a quick recovery. Unless we hear anything to the contrary, it seems reasonable to assume that he'll be fine for training camp.
Jul 17 - 6:13 PM

Jonas Hiller has reportedly suffered an appendicitis attack.

It's not yet clear if Hiller will require surgery to remove his appendix. Hiller signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Calgary Flames this season.
Jul 17 - 5:42 PM

Jonas Hiller is looking forward to getting a fresh start in Calgary.

Hiller didn't leave the Anaheim Ducks on the best of terms as he struggled in the second half of the season and was used sparingly in the playoffs. He felt that part of the reason for his decline was because Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau no longer seemed to believe in him. He'll compete with Karri Ramo for the starting gig and should be regarded as the favorite in that battle.

Jul 2 - 8:36 AM

The Calgary Flames have signed Jonas Hiller to a two-year, $9 million contract.

This is an excellent signing for the Flames as he can handle a lot of shots, which he will undoubtedly see in Calgary. The deal is modest as compared to some of the contracts that have been handed out Tuesday, and the Flames have done well to shore up their goaltending through the 2016-17 season. Hiller will post strong save percentage numbers but his goals against average and win totals may be a little less than league average and as a result will be better suited as a second goalie in fantasy pools going forward.
Jul 1 - 1:37 PM

Pending UFA goalie Jonas Hiller received contact from as many as five teams, according to Fox Sports Midwest's Andy Strickland.

As adamant as the Anaheim Ducks were about not trading Hiller at the deadline, it now seems like the Swiss goalie may very well walk for nothing. Depending on the situation, he could be a nice mid-draft pick for 2014-15.
Jun 29 - 5:01 PM

GM Bob Murray thanked goaltender Jonas Hiller for his work in the cage for the Anaheim Ducks.

The two sides are parting ways as the Ducks will go with John Gibson and Frederik Andersen in goal next season. "He gave us a great five years," Murray said of Hiller. "Jonas did so much for us, but we have some pretty good kids there so the writing was kind of on the wall." Hiller will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and should find another job in the NHL next season although he may be a backup.
Jun 21 - 10:39 AM

Jonas Hiller will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The move was expected for quite a while, but Anaheim GM Bob Murray has confirmed that Hiller won't be offered a contract. The Ducks have liked what they've seen from young netminders Frederik Andersen and John Gibson, so Hiller was seen as expendable. Hiller posted a 29-13-7 record with a .911 save percentage, a 2.48 GAA and five shutouts in 2013-14.
Jun 19 - 2:44 PM

Jonas Hiller was the first goaltender off the ice Saturday, but it's still uncertain if he'll start in Game 4.

He left the ice slightly before Frederik Andersen on Thursday, but he didn't get the nod. Coach Bruce Boudreau appears to be open to giving John Gibson a chance to start in his first NHL playoff game. We probably won't know who plays until the pregame warmup.
May 10 - 2:15 PM

Jonas Hiller was credited with the win after coming off the bench in the third period of Thursday's 3-2 victory.

Hiller turned aside seven of eights shots in 10 minutes. He got into the game because Frederik Andersen sustained what's believed to be a knee injury. If Andersen is healthy enough to play in Game 4, then there's a good chance Hiller will find himself back on the bench.
May 9 - 9:41 AM

Jonas Hiller is projected to get the nod for Anaheim again in Game 3.

He was the first goaltender off at the morning skate. Don't be surprised too see Frederik Andersen if Hiller falters. He beat the Kings three times during the regular season and two of those wins came in Los Angeles.
May 8 - 6:23 PM

Jonas Hiller allowed two goals on 16 shots in Anaheim's 3-1 loss to Los Angeles Monday evening.

It was a difficult game for Hiller because he faced only 16 shots and he couldn't do much for the goals that the Kings scored. Hiller now has a 1.75 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in four playoff games. He will probably start in Game 3 on Thursday night also.
May 6 - 2:57 AM

As expected, Jonas Hiller will be in goal for Anaheim on Tuesday night against Los Angeles.

He stopped 33 of 36 shots hurled his way by the Kings in Game 1 on Saturday night, but the Ducks lost 3-2 in overtime.
May 5 - 1:31 PM

Jonas Hiller played very well Saturday night in the Ducks' 3-2 overtime loss to the Kings and certainly has earned himself another start.

He will likely be Anaheim's starter Monday night in Game 2. "I think he played really good tonight," Ducks' coach Bruce Boudreau said. "I don't know where you could fault him on anything. You're looking at a 3-2 overtime loss where both teams played equally."
