Jonas Hiller was perfect in Calgary’s 5-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.
Hiller wasn’t very busy during the game, as he only faced 16 shots. The 32-year-old’s record now improves to 3-2-0 on the season. Hiller has been very sharp early on and continues to prove that he is the number one goaltender on the Flames’ roster. Oct 23 - 11:33 PM

Jonas Hiller stopped 30 of 31 shots he faced in Calgary’s 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night.

Mark Scheifele beat Hiller midway through the first period, but that was the only offense the Jets could muster. Hiller has now held the opposition to one goal scored in back-to-back starts. The 32-year-old is locked into a battle for the Flames starting gig with Karri Ramo. Hiller should be the slight favorite in that battle.

Expect to see Jonas Hiller back between the pipes on Sunday in Winnipeg.

The netminder was given the night off Friday as Karri Ramo gave up three goals on 26 shots although to be fair, none of the goals could be blamed on the Finnish netminder. Hiller was sensational Wednesday as he turned aside 49 of 50 Chicago shots in a 2-1 win for Calgary. Adjust your lineup accordingly.

Jonas Hiller made 49 saves in regulation and overtime to spark the Calgary Flames to a 2-1 triumph over the Blackhawks in Chicago Wednesday night.

Hiller, who was deemed expendable after last season by the Anaheim Ducks, had lost his two previous starts with Calgary this season but he turned in a stunning effort Wednesday with his 49 saves against one of the NHL's premier teams and may have changed the minds of many fantasy league players in the process. Before Wednesday, Hiller was generally perceived as a low-end, No. 2 option in fantasy leagues. He was viewed as a goalie on the way downhill and with a poor team. With his performance Wednesday, however, his fantasy value may have increased for fantasy leaguers who need goaltending. Hiller's goals-against average is now 2.62 and his save percentage is .934.
Oct 15 - 11:06 PM

Jonas Hiller was peppered with 39 shots in the Flames’ 4-1 loss to the Blues on Saturday night.

Hiller made 35 saves, giving up two of the four goals to the Blues’ penalty kill. He is a low-end number-two option right now in fantasy leagues as a goalie who plays on a poor team and who hasn’t exactly been above average in several years. Hiller has a 3.53 goals-against average and .901 save percentage this season.
Oct 11 - 11:59 PM

The Calgary Flames seem primed to start Jonas Hiller in net against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

That could be a tough situation for Hiller to get his first win as a Flames goalie. He was solid in his debut against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 8, stopping 29 out of 32 shots, but Calgary fell 3-2. The 32-year-old's gig isn't bulletproof but he may have an edge on Karri Ramo for the time being.
Oct 11 - 12:27 PM

Hiller stopped 29 of 32 shots in his Calgary debut Wednesday night as the visiting Vancouver Canucks won 4-2.

It wasn't the start Hiller was looking for in the first game with his new team. Hiller allowed goals to Alexandre Burrows, Zack Kassian and Radim Vrbata before Henrik Sedin scored an empty net goal.
Oct 9 - 1:16 AM

Jonas Hiller will play between the pipes in Calgary's opening game on Wednesday.

Hiller is looking to reassert his place as an NHL starter after falling out of favor towards the end of his tenure in Anaheim. He should be a solid goaltender with Calgary, but he will be consistently challenged for playing time by Karri Ramo.
Oct 7 - 1:28 PM

Jonas Hiller had a rough Saturday night in net, giving up three goals in the Flames’ 4-1 loss to the Jets.

Any chance Calgary has at becoming a playoff team will hinge on the play of Hiller. He made just 21 saves Saturday. David Jones had the lone goal, with Joe Colborne and Raphael Diaz assisting on it.
Oct 4 - 10:45 PM

Jonas Hiller stopped all 28 shots he faced to earn the shutout in the Flames 2-0 preseason win over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.

It was a nice follow up for the veteran net-minder who looked sloppy against Vancouver in forty minutes of game action for his first preseason showing. He continues to be the heavy favorite to get the large number of starts in Calgary this season. Reto Berra, his counterpart in net for the Avalanche, was solid in making 22 saves on 23 shots in a losing effort
Sep 30 - 11:55 PM

Jonas Hiller stopped 10-12 shots fired on by Vancouver in his firth forty minutes, and loss, of ice time this preseason.

Hiller simply wasn't sharp and looked slippery in his crease as Chris Higgins and Nicklas Jensen manage to put a puck each past him. Then again, it's the first full speed action of the year so don't read too deeply into it.
Sep 26 - 1:14 AM

Jonas Hiller wasn't surprised by Teemu Selanne's harsh critic of Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau.

Like Selanne, Hiller felt he was being underused by Boudreau. "I think at the end, it's a coach’s decision who's playing and who’s not," Hiller said. "I wasn't, in his eyes, the go-to guy and I think that's a tough part of being a goaltender, there's just one guy on the ice, and if the coach isn't rooting for you or doesn't have your back, it's tough to play at your best." Hiller signed with Calgary over the summer in the hopes of proving that he's still capable of serving as a starter. He'll have to fight with Karri Ramo for that spot, but Hiller is the heavy favorite going into the season.

Jonas Hiller has recovered from appendicitis.

"I talked to him the other day and he's back, 100 percent, skating, working out," Flames GM Brad Treliving told the Calgary Herald last Thursday. "He's been back in his routine, fully functional, and no issues." He had an arthroscopic procedure in mid-July. Hiller will be Calgary's top goaltender this season, but if he falters then Karri Ramo is waiting to play in his place.

Jonas Hiller (appendicitis) should be fully recovered well before training camp starts.

"The procedure nowadays . . . they can do it arthroscopically," said Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving. "They're saying within nine to 12 days, you're up and back to normal. (Hiller's agent) felt by next week that he's right back in the swing of things. The hope and the plan and the expectation right now is that there's no long recovery period." Hiller signed a two-year, $9 million contract with Calgary in July. He's projected to start the season as the Flames' number one goaltender.
Jul 25 - 9:26 AM

Jonas Hiller had a minor procedure as a result of his appendicitis attack.

Hiller is expected to have a quick recovery. Unless we hear anything to the contrary, it seems reasonable to assume that he'll be fine for training camp.
