Niklas Hjalmarsson exited Thursday's game against Arizona due to an upper-body injury.

He was hurt in the first period and wasn't able to return after his fifth shift of the game. The Blackhawks knew he wasn't feeling 100 percent going into the contest, so coach Joel Quenneville dressed seven defensemen as a "precaution." Still, the team did believe he was fine to play. An update on his status may come on Friday.

The Chicago Blackhawks suffered their worst loss since 2011 on Friday night.

The Capitals dominated them 6-0 last night. It's the first time the Blackhawks lose a game by six goals or more since Nov. 19, 2011 when they dropped a 9-2 decision to the Edmonton Oilers. "We just pretty much did everything we said we wouldn't do, or weren't supposed to do," defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson said. "That was one of those two or three games that you have a year that you're just being outplayed really bad and that was probably as outplayed as I've been in a long time."

Niklas Hjalmarsson set a new personal high for goals in a season with his fifth of the year on Sunday night.

With his third goal of the season during Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Devils, Niklas Hjalmarsson sits just a goal shy of matching his career high for a season.

That's right, Hjalmarsson has yet to post a nickle's worth of goals in a season. He has just 21 for his career. He now has six points on the season as well.

Niklas Hjalmarsson has been switching sides frequently this season, as coach Joel Quenneville likes to switch up his defense pairings.

"If I had to choose, everybody would say the same: They'd play on one side for the whole season and get used to it and find a rhythm," Hjalmarsson said. "But if that's best for our team, I'll do it." When he plays with Duncan Keith or Gustav Forsling, Hjalmarsson skates on the right, and he plays on the left with Brent Seabrook.

The Chicago Blackhawks have struggled on killing penalties this year and Niklas Hjalmarsson thinks it's because their confidence is shaken.

The Hawks allowed Columbus to score two power play goals on Friday night. Chicago has killed off just eight of 19 penalties so far this season. "In hockey, we’re always about confidence," Hjalmarsson said. "And when you see a lot of goals go in the net all the time on the PK, it kind of hits the confidence a little bit. … No excuses. It’s up to [us] and we just haven’t been good enough. That’s just how it’s been. We’ve just got to be better."

Niklas Hjalmarsson will pair with Duncan Keith for Friday's match with the Predators, as he makes his season debut.

The 29-year-old is not much of a fantasy asset aside from blocks, where he average a bit over one per game. If you're looking for a spot-starter for tonight, he's not a bad option. But we wouldn't count on much long-term value.

Niklas Hjalmarsson has served his suspension for charging Ty Rattie.

Hjalmarsson was forced to miss some exhibition action and one regular season contest as a result. With that behind him, he'll probably be in the lineup on Friday.

Nicklas Hjalmarsson picked up his first point of the playoffs during Thursday's Game 5 double overtime win over St. Louis.

The helper give him just 28 points for his career during the postseason in 122 games, so we wouldn't expect much from him moving forward. That said, he played nearly 33 minutes with five blocks which is much more in line with his type of production.

Niklas Hjalmarsson will be a healthy scratch on Saturday against Columbus.

Through 81 games this season the veteran defender matched a career high of 22 assists, giving him 24 points on the campaign as well. Tack on his 151 blocks and you have yourself quite the depth fantasy player in Hjalmarsson.

He has picked up a helper in each of his last two games to give him 18 points on the year. Chicago's defense corps combined for five assists in Wednesday's win with every blueliner except Trevor Van Riemsdyk earning a point.

Niklas Hjalmarsson picked up his second goal of season during Friday's 3-1 victory over Buffalo.

Hjalmarsson ripped a zinger off a feed he could walk in to from Erik Gustafsson. Almost as if Hjalmarsson has actual puck-shooting skills. Now with two goals, he has 12 points on the season he also contributed a pair of blocks during his 26:08 of work.
