After struggling at the beginning of last season, Stars’ defenseman Alex Goligoski says his team is better prepared for a fast start this season.

The Stars had a new coaching staff last season, and there was clearly an adjustment period that took place. "I definitely think it took time to get used to one another," Goligoski said. "We had to learn what the coaches wanted, and they had to learn what we could do well. I think we were a much better team at the end of the season." Goligoski and Trevor Daley will probably be Dallas’ top defensive pairing this season. Goligoski registered six goals and 42 points in 81 games last season.

Alex Goligoski may be the Stars' de facto number one defenseman, but he played well for the team last season.

He was good alongside Trevor Daley after he was moved off a pairing with Sergei Gonchar. Goligoski led the team in average ice time per game (24:18) and he finished third on the team with 42 points in 81 contests. One area where Dallas and fantasy owners will be looking for improvement from their top blueliner is on the power play. Goligoski produced 15 points on the man advantage despite seeing significant ice time. The arrival of Jason Spezza this season could help that total.

Alex Goligoski ranks third on the Dallas Stars in scoring with 33 points in 71 games.

The Stars have received plenty of offensive support from star players Tyler Seguin (75) and Jamie Benn (69), but after that there's a significant drop-off in production especially among the forwards. "Our depth of scoring is hurting us," coach Lindy Ruff said. "We've got to find a way to finish our chances."
