Tyler Kennedy takes being a healthy scratch on Tuesday as a sign that he needs to be better defensively.

"I kind of got away from it for a couple games there, not following the systems," Kennedy said. Tyler Kennedy knows he has to pick up his game.

Kennedy was acquired from the Penguins for a second-round pick at the draft, but he has only one goal and four assists while playing on a line with Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau. "I think I’ve got to pick it up a little bit. I want to be better," Kennedy said. Sharks coach Todd McLellan mixed up the lines and now has Kennedy with Joe Thornton and Tomas Hertl. "I think he’s provided us with a burst of speed, some good defensive play. They’ve had some tough assignments on a nightly basis," McLellan said. "He’s shot the puck a lot, and got it back. I’ve liked how he fit in. I think he’s a good piece for our team."

Kennedy switched spots with Raffi Torres and his fantasy value will go up if he remains with two scorers like Couture and Marleau. Kennedy could get 40 points if he remains on the second line but 25 points is a more likely outcome for the winger as he will probably shuffle between the two lines.
