Cal Clutterbuck wasn't pleased with Stars coach Lindy Ruff's comments following Sunday's game.

Dallas' Jason Demers got a game misconduct and major penalty for boarding Clutterbuck, but Ruff thought Clutterbuck embellished, alluding to Clutterbuck's $2,000 fine for embellishment in Jan. 2015. "I just find it disrespectful," Clutterbuck said of Ruff's comments. "I’ve played a lot of games in the league to this point, the hit itself — if anyone looks at the replay, it’s completely unnecessary. I get my head driven into the board by a knee or a thigh. I reacted to the amount of pain I was in. To embellish a hit like that, I’d have to come up with something pretty quickly while I’m in pain, so I just don’t care for the comments. That’s the road he chose."

Cal Clutterbuck scored twice in the Islanders' 6-5 victory over Dallas on Sunday.

Clutterbuck was a game-time decision due to an upper-body injury, so the fact that he went on to have such a big impact is pretty impressive. He now has nine goals and 12 points in 39 contests in 2015-16. "He’s on pace to have a career year," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said of Clutterbuck. "He’s a guy to me who comes to the rink every day with a purpose. He wants to get better. He just knows how to play one way. He’s a physical presence. You look at a guy, the history of how physical he is, but he has got a lot of skill. He’s got a high hockey IQ. He knows how to play the game."
