Daniel Winnik doesn't have any concussion symptoms after he was hit by Jan Hejda and fell awkwardly on Thursday.

Winnik has been held out of the Maple Leafs' last two games, but he hopes to return to the lineup on Wednesday. He has a goal and seven points in 13 contests in 2014-15.
Nov 11 - 12:22 PM

Daniel Winnik will miss at least a week of action with a neck/head injury.

The NHL and NHLPA have become very strict with players who suffer concussions. Winnik has to be symptom-free for a week before being allowed to return to action. The 29-year-old has seven points in 13 games this season. Winnik was carried off on a stretcher after being hit by Colorado defenseman Jan Hejda last week.

It should come as no surprise that Daniel Winnik will not play Saturday night against the Rangers.

He had a terrible spill Thursday night against the Avalanche and had to be removed from the ice by stretcher due to head/neck injuries. The good news is that Winnik's injuries do not look serious, although the Leafs are not saying if Winnik has sustained a concussion. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Nov 8 - 12:01 PM

Daniel Winnik was moving around and talking by the first intermission after he suffered a head/neck injury early into the opening period.

He wasn't able to move for several seconds after falling awkwardly to the ice following a hit from Colorado defender Jan Hejda, but he escaped the incident without serious injury. In fact, Winnik may not miss any time at all. "The bad part of it is he was out of it and that left everybody gasping," coach Randy Carlyle said. "He did twist his neck, but the brunt of the weight of his body seemed to roll on his shoulder so he was lucky. He's 100 percent fine. He says nothing is bothering him." We'll put him on the sidelines for now.

Daniel Winnik was stretchered off the ice Thursday night after taking a nasty fall in Denver.

During the game's opening minute, Winnik and Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda met at the Leafs' offensive blue line where Winnik chipped it in along the right wall. Hejda laid a legal check that inadvertantly lifted Winnik backwards heal-over-head, and landed him atop his left shoulder and the left side of the head. The Leafs PR twitter had this to say, "Daniel Winnik is alert and moving. He is currently being evaluated by the Leafs' team doctor." Stay tuned.
Nov 6 - 10:09 PM

If you are looking for an under-the-radar pick up for the next week or so, consider Daniel Winnik.

He is getting playing time on the Maple Leafs' top line alongside Phil Kessel and Nazem Kadri and registered a goal and two assists in the Buds' 4-1 win over Columbus Friday night. Toronto coach Randy Carlyle was certainly pleased with Winnik's contributions. "He [Winnik] was a complement to the line he was on," said Carlyle. "He's been a welcome addition to our group so far." If he is available, Winnik could make a nice short term pickup.
Nov 1 - 12:03 PM

Daniel Winnik left Friday night's 4-1 loss to Detroit in the third period with an upper-body injury.

He sustained the injury while blocking a shot. However, it looks like he'll be fine.
Oct 18 - 11:39 AM

Daniel Winnik has been playing on the second line with Nazem Kadri and Joffrey Lupul.

"It's only been a few games, but that line with him and Kadri and Lupul, he's done well to help push them along," said assistant GM Kyle Dubas. "He may not jump off the page, and have you say: 'Wow this guy is outstanding.' But you can see his effect on that line. The last three (games) with Winnik, they've been really fun to watch." Winnik assisted on a goal by Kadri in Sunday's win over the Rangers, but he shouldn't be expected to break out offensively this year. He's a defensive-minded forward, who is there to help the line with puck possession.
Oct 16 - 12:29 PM

Daniel Winnik will have plenty of competition for a roster spot at training camp.

He'll join Leo Komarov, Matt Frattin, Mike Santorelli, David Booth and Petri Kontiola as the off-season additions to the roster. They will compete for bottom-six forward roles with Peter Holland, Colton Orr, Frazer McLaren and Trevor Smith. Winnik's defensive style and penalty-killing prowess could help his case to stay.

Sep 3 - 2:26 PM

Daniel Winnik has inked a one-year, $1.3 million deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Winnik had six goals and 30 points in 76 games in 2013-14 and shouldn't be penciled in to surpass those totals next season, so he obviously won't be a factor in standard fantasy leagues. Still, he'll be a fine addition to the Leafs' third line.
Jul 28 - 2:42 PM

Daniel Winnik will be permitted to test unrestricted free agency.

Anaheim GM Bob Murray said the team won't offer Winnik a new contract after he spent the last two years with the club. He notched six goals and a career-high 30 points in 76 games this past season.
Jun 19 - 2:34 PM

Daniel Winnik had an assist in Monday's 4-3 win against Los Angeles.

It was Winnik's first point in seven playoff games in the Ducks' current run. He had six goals and 24 assists in 76 contests during the regular season.
May 13 - 5:51 AM

Daniel Winnik will get back into the lineup for the Ducks on Saturday night.

Matt Beleskey is out with a lower-body injury, so Winnik will make his sixth appearance of the postseason. He doesn't have a point yet and has been credited with seven shots.
May 10 - 1:46 PM

Daniel Winnik was a healthy scratch in Game 1.

He was joined on the sidelines by his linemate Kyle Palmieri as the Ducks went with Devante Smith-Pelly and Emerson Etem. Etem and Smith-Pelly joined Nick Bonino on the fourth unit and managed 10 shots on goal so it may be tough for Winnik and Palmieri to get back in the lineup for Game 2. "I think Palmieri and Winnik and Rakell, for that matter, would not hurt our team one iota, if were in there," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "They were regulars, at least the two of them, for the whole year. Just right now, with this series, I think, the bigger bodied guys, and the more physical guys, are what we need."
