Daniel Winnik's visa issues have been resolved and he is expected to practice with the Penguins on Saturday.
Winnik practiced on his own in Toronto while the visa issues were being worked on and he was set to drive to Pittsburgh later in the day. Winnik was dealt to the Penguins on Wednesday and is expected to be a third line winger. He can score the occasional goal and is an excellent penalty killer but do not expect a lot in fantasy stats from Winnik. Feb 28 - 9:26 AM

Daniel Winnik has been dealt to Pittsburgh in exchange for Zach Sill, a second-round pick in 2016 and a fourth rounder in 2015.

Winnik has generated seven goals and 25 points in 58 contests for Toronto this season. He's great on the penalty kill and is eligible for unrestricted free agency at the end of the year. Toronto retained 50% of Winnik's salary in the deal.

Daniel Winnik notched a goal for the Maple Leafs in their 2-1 shootout loss to the Canadiens on Saturday night.

Anything to improve that trade value. Winnik has been a solid addition to the Maple Leafs, with six goals and 23 points this season, but it’s unlikely he finishes the season in Toronto. Roman Polak and Richard Panik got the assists. David Clarkson played 2:31 and finished with 27 penalty minutes.
Feb 14 - 10:07 PM

Daniel Winnik produced a goal and added an assist in Toronto's 5-4 loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.

The hard-working winger has collected five goals and 22 points in 53 games this season. Winnik will probably be on the move at the trade deadline because he's an unrestricted free agent in the summer and playoff teams could use his two-way abilities.

The Maple Leafs have shuffled their forward lines for Saturday's game against the Flyers.

Daniel Winnik will play on the Buds' second unit alongside Nazem Kadri and Joffrey Lupul. Tyler Bozak, James van Riemsdyk and Phil Kessel will continue to skate as the squad's first unit. Leo Komarov, Peter Holland and Mike Santorelli will comprise the third line, while David Clarkson, Richard Panik and Trevor Smith will make up the fourth. This is a good opportunity for Winnik. We will be interested to see if he can get some traction in this slot.

Daniel Winnik (head/neck) is expected to play on Wednesday night.

He said he didn't suffer a concussion after he fell awkwardly to the ice following a hit by Colorado's Jan Hejda. Winnik skated again in the morning after he got back on the ice on Monday.

Daniel Winnik doesn't have any concussion symptoms after he was hit by Jan Hejda and fell awkwardly on Thursday.

Winnik has been held out of the Maple Leafs' last two games, but he hopes to return to the lineup on Wednesday. He has a goal and seven points in 13 contests in 2014-15.

Daniel Winnik will miss at least a week of action with a neck/head injury.

The NHL and NHLPA have become very strict with players who suffer concussions. Winnik has to be symptom-free for a week before being allowed to return to action. The 29-year-old has seven points in 13 games this season. Winnik was carried off on a stretcher after being hit by Colorado defenseman Jan Hejda last week.

It should come as no surprise that Daniel Winnik will not play Saturday night against the Rangers.

He had a terrible spill Thursday night against the Avalanche and had to be removed from the ice by stretcher due to head/neck injuries. The good news is that Winnik's injuries do not look serious, although the Leafs are not saying if Winnik has sustained a concussion. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Daniel Winnik was moving around and talking by the first intermission after he suffered a head/neck injury early into the opening period.

He wasn't able to move for several seconds after falling awkwardly to the ice following a hit from Colorado defender Jan Hejda, but he escaped the incident without serious injury. In fact, Winnik may not miss any time at all. "The bad part of it is he was out of it and that left everybody gasping," coach Randy Carlyle said. "He did twist his neck, but the brunt of the weight of his body seemed to roll on his shoulder so he was lucky. He's 100 percent fine. He says nothing is bothering him." We'll put him on the sidelines for now.

Daniel Winnik was stretchered off the ice Thursday night after taking a nasty fall in Denver.

During the game's opening minute, Winnik and Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda met at the Leafs' offensive blue line where Winnik chipped it in along the right wall. Hejda laid a legal check that inadvertantly lifted Winnik backwards heal-over-head, and landed him atop his left shoulder and the left side of the head. The Leafs PR twitter had this to say, "Daniel Winnik is alert and moving. He is currently being evaluated by the Leafs' team doctor." Stay tuned.

If you are looking for an under-the-radar pick up for the next week or so, consider Daniel Winnik.

He is getting playing time on the Maple Leafs' top line alongside Phil Kessel and Nazem Kadri and registered a goal and two assists in the Buds' 4-1 win over Columbus Friday night. Toronto coach Randy Carlyle was certainly pleased with Winnik's contributions. "He [Winnik] was a complement to the line he was on," said Carlyle. "He's been a welcome addition to our group so far." If he is available, Winnik could make a nice short term pickup.

Daniel Winnik left Friday night's 4-1 loss to Detroit in the third period with an upper-body injury.

He sustained the injury while blocking a shot. However, it looks like he'll be fine.

Daniel Winnik has been playing on the second line with Nazem Kadri and Joffrey Lupul.

"It's only been a few games, but that line with him and Kadri and Lupul, he's done well to help push them along," said assistant GM Kyle Dubas. "He may not jump off the page, and have you say: 'Wow this guy is outstanding.' But you can see his effect on that line. The last three (games) with Winnik, they've been really fun to watch." Winnik assisted on a goal by Kadri in Sunday's win over the Rangers, but he shouldn't be expected to break out offensively this year. He's a defensive-minded forward, who is there to help the line with puck possession.

Daniel Winnik will have plenty of competition for a roster spot at training camp.

He'll join Leo Komarov, Matt Frattin, Mike Santorelli, David Booth and Petri Kontiola as the off-season additions to the roster. They will compete for bottom-six forward roles with Peter Holland, Colton Orr, Frazer McLaren and Trevor Smith. Winnik's defensive style and penalty-killing prowess could help his case to stay.
