Derek Dorsett, who will undergo cervical fusion surgery due to disc degeneration in his neck, has been dealing with this issue for five or six years.
So if you're looking for a silver lining, maybe Dorsett will be feeling better than he has in a long time should he make a full recovery as the Canucks expect him to do. That being said, it's not yet known how long it will take him to recover from this procedure. He's in the second season of a four-year, $10.6 million deal. Dec 5 - 4:34 PM

Derek Dorsett is scheduled to undergo cervical fusion surgery.

Dorsett has disc degeneration in his neck and this surgery will address that. It's expected that he'll be able to make a full recovery, but what's not clear is how long it will take him to get back to the point where he can play. Vancouver isn't providing a timetable, citing the nature of the procedure as the reason for that. "The decision to perform surgery was made after a thorough review of our options, including non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation," said Canucks GM Jim Benning. "Derek, our Canucks medical team and Dr. Watkins believe that surgery offers the best outcome both for his career and long-term health. Derek is an important member of our team and we are optimistic for a full recovery."

The Vancouver Canucks have place Derek Dorsett on the injured reserve list with a shoulder injury.

The move coincides with the recall of Joseph Labate from Unita. Dorsett did not play against Chicago Saturday and while many thought he was a healthy scratch, he was in fact injured. Dorsett has four points, 33 penalty minutes and 35 hits in 14 games this season.

Nov 22 - 9:46 AM

The Canucks have scratched Derek Dorsett against Chicago on Saturday.

Tough to say one is surprised, given Dorsett is a rugged winger going up against a team that doesn't fight back in that manner. Besides, he could probably use a night off. Dorsett has 35 hits to go along with 33 PIMs and four points in 14 games this season.

Nov 19 - 10:03 PM

Derek Dorsett had an assist in Vancouver's 7-2 loss to the New York Rangers.

Dorsett has a goal, four points, and 33 penalty minutes in 13 games this season. He finished last season with 16 points and 177 penalty minutes and it wouldn't be surprising to see him end up with similar numbers again in 2016-17.
Nov 16 - 9:54 AM

Derek Dorsett (shoulder) will play Wednesday night.

He hasn't played since Oct. 22 because of a shoulder injury. Dorsett has one assist and seven penalty minutes in five matches this campaign.
Nov 2 - 3:09 PM

Derek Dorsett (shoulder) took part in Monday's practice.

He rotated with Jack Skille on the fourth line. However, it's unclear at this time if Dorsett will be back in the lineup on Wednesday against Montreal. He has sat out the Canucks' last four games due to a shoulder injury.
Oct 31 - 1:57 PM

Derek Dorsett (shoulder) is expected to be sidelined for seven-to-10 days.

He was injured on Saturday versus Los Angeles and moved to injured reserve. Dorsett has one assist and seven penalty minutes in five games.

Dorsett was injured during Saturday's contest against Los Angeles. He has an assist in five games this season.
Oct 25 - 9:41 AM

Derek Dorsett will not play in Sunday's match with Anaheim.

Tough break for anyone in a pool that values Dorsett's expertise. He has a point to go along with seven PIMs and 15 hits through five games thus far.
Oct 23 - 6:13 PM

Derek Dorsett had a healthy off-season and is playing alongside Markus Granlund and Emerson Etem at training camp.

This should be the Canucks fourth line this season. Dorsett had a tough off-season in 2015 as he had double hernia surgery and was forced to miss seven weeks of training in the summer. It was not the case this season so look for Dorsett to get 20-25 points as well as leading or being near the top of the penalty minute category.
Sep 25 - 11:05 AM

Derek Dorsett finished his 2015-16 campaign with a bang.

Dorsett picked up a goal and assist, raising his totals to five goals and 16 points in 71 games this season. He also collected a misconduct for squirting Patrick Maroon with water from the bench, for which he was immediately ejected for. The NHL's PIMs leader ends with 177, ranking third on his career high list.
Apr 10 - 2:52 AM

Derek Dorsett fought Brandon Bollig during the first period of 7-3 loss to Calgary.

Dorsett and Bollig did the tango late in the first period while the game was tied at two, so it doesn't seem as though the League's leader in PIMs had much of an effect on the game. Though he did play 10:05 during the game. Dorsett is now up to 162 PIMs in 69 games this season.
Apr 8 - 12:16 AM

Derek Dorsett (undisclosed) is expected to play on Monday night.

He is slated to play with Bo Horvat and Emerson Etem. Dorsett hasn't played since Mar. 25.
Apr 4 - 5:43 PM

Derek Dorsett will be a healthy scratch against Chicago on Sunday.

Dorsett missed nearly two weeks with an upper body injury, but played 14:12 while throwing a hit and a block and a shot on net in Saturday's loss to St. Louis. Coach Willie Desjardins said he hasn't aggravated his injury. If you have him, hopefully you can stash the NHL's leader in PIMs.
