Derek Dorsett returned in the third period Saturday after a collision in the second stanza sent him to the dressing room.
The Canucks cannot afford another injury up front with Zack Kassian, Brad Richardson and Shawn Matthias already out, so there was a long exhale when Dorsett returned for the third. He collided with the Oilers Oscar Klefbom in the second. Dorsett ended the season with seven goals and 25 points and was third in the NHL with 175 penalty minutes. Apr 12 - 10:20 AM

Derek Dorsett has inked a four-year, $10.6 million contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks.

Dorsett was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He has 25 points and 169 penalty minutes in 77 games in 2014-15. He also leads the team with 163 hits while averaging 12:00 minutes per game. While that cap hit isn't a big increase over his current $2 million salary ($1.633 million annual cap hit), it is an awful lot to pay for a player with a relatively minimal role in terms of time on the ice. We also wouldn't count on him consistently reaching the 20-point mark over the course of that deal.
Apr 8 - 4:55 PM

Derek Dorsett scored the Canucks' lone goal on Thursday night in a 3-1 loss to Chicago.

Make it two straight games with a point for the 28-year-old, who usually finds the score sheet in the penalty summary rather than the goal scorers. He now has 25 points in 75 games.
Apr 3 - 1:36 AM

Derek Dorsett fought Cody McLeod and added a tripping minor for seven penalty minutes during Thursday night's 4-1 loss to Colorado.

Dorsett continues to lead the Canucks with 162 PIMs, owning twice as many PIMs as Zack Kassian, the second place holder. For the season, Dorsett has six goals and 23 points through 71 games to go along with the third most PIMs in the NHL.
Mar 27 - 1:38 AM

Derek Dorsett led the way for the Canucks in their 4-1 win with three points against the Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

Dorsett scored in the second period, then added two assists. He is the type of fourth liner who will continue to excel in this day and age of less fighting because he can actually play and not be an anchor to his team. Dorsett, who finished with a plus-three rating, has six goals and 16 assists this season. Don’t forget those 150 penalty minutes, either. Chris Higgins, Shawn Matthias and Jannik Hansen got the other goals. Zack Kassian had 24 penalty minutes.
Mar 14 - 10:44 PM

Derek Dorsett was one of the few Canucks to offer anything of value to his fantasy owners in the Canucks' 4-0 loss to Los Angeles Thursday.

Despite being held off the scoresheet, Dorsett racked up nine penalty minutes to go along with two shots on goal, a hit and a blocked shot. This may not seem like much, but it was a decent fantasy line when you consider that most of his teammates walked away from the loss with little more than a negative plus/minus rating.
Mar 13 - 1:04 AM

The Canucks third line of Derek Dorsett, Zack Kassian and Shawn Matthias was a plus-nine on Friday.

All three were plus-three as Matthias picked up the hat trick while Kassian had a pair of assists and Dorsett chipped in with one. If the Canucks get this type of performance on a semi-regular basis from the line, they will be tough to stop in the playoffs.
Feb 14 - 11:31 AM

Derek Dorsett (upper body) returned to action on Sunday February 1.

Dorsett missed Friday's contest due to the ailment. He had a plus-one rating in 9:25 minutes of ice time in his return.
Feb 2 - 2:08 AM

Derek Dorsett is not expected to play against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.

Dorsett didn't practice on Wednesday after leaving Tuesday's game with an upper body injury. Coach Desjardins said he "expects Dorsett to be out for a bit." We'll keep you posted as news on his condition develops. On the season Dorsett has accumulated five goals, 14 points, 95 PIMS, and 99 hits in 44 games.
Jan 30 - 8:00 PM

Derek Dorsett (upper body) didn't attend Wednesday's practice.

Dorsett left Tuesday's contest after absorbing a high hit from Ryan Kesler. The obvious fear is that he might have a concussion, but there's nothing from the Canucks yet to suggest that's the case.
Jan 28 - 3:46 PM

Derek Dorsett left Tuesday's game against Anaheim with a possible head injury.

Dorsett absorbed a high hit from former Vancouver Canuck Ryan Kesler. Officially, he has an upper-body injury, so it's not clear if he experienced concussion symptoms or not.
Jan 28 - 11:38 AM

Derek Dorsett scored a goal in Friday's 3-0 win over Carolina.

Dorsett scored the first of three goals in the second period for the Canucks. Two of his five goals scored this season are game-winners. The 28-year-old won't produce offensively on a consistent basis, but he does have value in fantasy leagues that count penalty minutes. Dorsett has 14 points and 93 penalty minutes in 41 games this season. Shawn Matthias and Alex Burrows also scored for Vancouver.
Jan 16 - 11:17 PM

Derek Dorsett will see second line duty on Sunday.

Dorsett has played most of the season on the fourth line but coach Willie Desjardins had him on the second unit in practice on Saturday alongside Nick Bonino and Chris Higgins. Dorsett has also started playing on the first power play and is looking more and more like a good fantasy asset as he is third in the NHL in penalty minutes with 77. "We need net presence and we need puck recovery, and I think he’s pretty good at both of those," Desjardins stated. "It’s a tough job standing in front of the net. A lot of guys may say they want it, but when the puck’s coming in, they don’t want it. It is a tough role and only a few guys will do that." Dorsett has four goals and 11 points in 31 games. Pick him up.

Derek Dorsett is questionable for Saturday's game with the Rangers as he missed practice on Friday for personal reasons.

Dorsett would be looking forward to this game as he played for the Rangers last season and was dealt to Vancouver in the off-season for a third round pick. Dorsett has 66 penalty minutes which is good for third in the NHL and he has four goals and 10 points to boot so he has some nice fantasy value in pools that use the penalty minutes category.

Friday's contest in Columbus will be kind of like a home game for Derek Dorsett.

Dorsett was born in Saskatchewan, but he was drafted by the Blue Jackets and Columbus is still the city he goes to for the summer months. "I fell in love with the city," said Dorsett. "It's a big city, but it has a small-town feel. It's not like there is a big downtown where's it's rush hour all the time. It takes 20 minutes to get anywhere in the city from downtown. People are real nice and friendly, mid-western folks. It's got everything you need." Dorsett was traded to the Rangers in April 2013 as part of the Marian Gaborik deal.
