Green was assessed a penalty for cross-checking Dorsett in retaliation, which angered the Capitals. "That play to me is the one that does concern me because it looked like a slew-foot to me and obviously that's why Mike reacted," coach Adam Oates said. "Mike's not that type of player, and you're watching it. To me it looks like a slew-foot. Very dangerous play. The Rangers defenseman suffered from blurry vision and altered depth perception after being hit near his right eye by the puck on March 5. McDonagh is scheduled to be a restricted free agent this summer, but Strang says talks have yet to get serious. Based on the Rangers' past talks with key RFAs, chances are GM Glen Sather would likely to sign McDonagh to a multi-year contract that keeps the defenseman at a reasonable cost and eats up some of his UFA years.
