Dane Byers was just about the only player that Capitals coach Barry Trotz liked in Washington's 6-1 preseason loss to Buffalo Wednesday night.
Trotz felt there were players that played themselves off of the roster on Wednesday. Byers is still a long shot to make the team, but it can't hurt to make a strong impression with the team's new coach. He had 37 points and 211 penalty minutes in 73 AHL games last season.
