Matt Hunwick has been paired with Dion Phaneuf at training camp.
It looks like he will start the regular season alongside the Leafs' captain. Hunwick was signed to two-year contract in the summer after he played in 55 games with the Rangers in 2014-15. Sep 25 - 11:00 AM

The Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Matt Hunwick to a 2-year, $2.4 million contract.

Hunwick will slot in as a 6th-7th defenseman in Toronto and does not really have any fantasy value given that he registered only 11 points in 55 games last season.
Jul 1 - 12:16 PM

Matt Hunwick will become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday according to Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

The Rangers were interested in keeping the defenseman but now will likely look within the franchise for their seventh defenseman. Hunwick had 11 points in 55 regular season games as he was a healthy scratch on numerous occasions.

The Rangers are interested in keeping pending unrestricted free agent Matt Hunwick, according to the New York Post’s Larry Brooks.

Hunwick, the team’s seventh defenseman, filled in admirably when he drew into the lineup. In 55 regular season games, he recorded 11 points, and he also got into six playoff games, though he was pointless. The 30-year-old made $600,00 last season. Teams could do much worse than Hunwick as a last-pair blueliner.

In a last-second switch, Matt Hunwick has tagged in for James Sheppard for the Rangers in Friday night's Game 7 against the Lightning.

Hunwick hasn't played since Game 5's clincher against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and plays defense. He has no points in five games this postseason. Which indicates that the Rangers will run with seven defenders and just 11 forwards. Sheppard meanwhile scored during New York's Game 6 romp over Tampa, which adds an extra level of curiosity to the lineup change. Sheppard has just two points in 13 games this postseason.

The New York Rangers will continue to roll out the same lineup on Tuesday night in Game 6 versus Tampa Bay, a potential elimination game.

The Rangers come in trailing in the Eastern Conference Final series 3-2, but Coach Vigneault believes in his group enough to not make a change. Albeit, he has Matt Hunwick, Chris Summers, and Ryan Bourque to choose from.

The New York Rangers will continue to roll out the same lineup on Sunday night in Game 5 versus Tampa Bay.

Perhaps if Keith Yandle or Dan Boyle hadn't accumulated a goal and five points each over the last trio of games, a change would have been made to the blue line. And perhaps if one of Tanner Glass, James Sheppard, or Jesper Fast hadn't stepped up their respective games, a change would have come to the forward corps. But as it is, there will be no lineup changes as the Rangers look to take a 3-2 series lead over Tampa Bay. Meaning Matt Hunwick, Chris Summers, and Ryan Bourque will continue to watch from the press box instead.

The New York Rangers will continue to roll out the same lineup on Friday night in Tampa Bay for Game 4.

Down in the series 2-1 and having given up a dozen goals over the last two games, it wouldn't have been surprising to see Coach Vigneault make a lineup change. But it appears that Matt Hunwick, Chris Summers, and Ryan Bourque will continue to watch from the press box instead.

The Rangers will continue using the same lineup in Wednesday night's Game 3 matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

That means defensemen Matt Hunwick and Chris Summers and forward Ryan Bourque will all be healthy scratches once again for Game 3 in Tampa Bay. Hunwick played in five games, all versus Pittsburgh in the first round, when Kevin Klien was sidelined due to an injury. Summers and Bourque have to see game action and it doesn't appear they will as the Rangers look to advance to a second straight Stanley Cup appearance.
May 20 - 5:44 PM

Matt Hunwick, Chris Summers, and Ryan Bourque will be healthy scratches once again for Game 2 against the Lightning Monday night.

The Rangers have used the same lineup since Game 5 versus the Penguins in the first round and are unlikely to change anything going forward. With Kevin Klein fully healthy now, Hunwick has been scratched in each of the last eight Rangers games. If Tanner Glass was unable to go, Bourque would’ve played in his first career postseason game, but that’s not the case. Summers doesn’t expect to crack the Rangers lineup during the playoff run.
May 18 - 8:07 PM

The Rangers will not make any changes to their lineup for Game 7 Wednesday night against the Washington Capitals.

Matt Hunwick is the most notable scratch for the Rangers as he played in all five games against the Penguins in the Rangers opening playoff matchup, but has not dressed versus Washington with Kevin Klein fully healthy and able to play every game. Chris Summers and Ryan Bourque are also listed as healthy scratches for Game 7. Mats Zuccarello (concussion) remains out indefinitely and will be forced to watch from the press box once again.
May 13 - 7:14 PM

The NY Rangers will go with the same lineup they have been on Sunday in Game Six as they try to force a seventh game.

Defenseman Matt Hunwick, who has not played since Game Five against the Penguins, will be joined by defender Chris Summers and forward Ryan Bourque. Of the three, only Hunwick has a modicum of potential fantasy value with six points in 13 career games. Albeit none this postseason.

May 10 - 5:20 PM

Coach Alain Vigneault will not make any lineup changes for Game Five against the Washington Capitals. The Rangers trail the series 3-1.

Hunwick, who played in each of the five games against Pittsburgh, has not appeared in the series with Washington. And so continues for Chris Summers and Ryan Bourque as well.
May 8 - 5:45 PM

Head coach Alain Vigneault will use the same lineup from Games 1, 2, and 3 Wednesday night in Washington for Game 4.

That means defensemen Matt Hunwick and Chris Summers will watch from the press box once again. Ryan Bourque, who was called from the Hartford Wolfpack, is also a healthy scratch and just skating with the team as insurance in case a forward is hurt. All three players are expected to be held out of the lineup for the continuation of the Rangers series against the Capitals.
May 6 - 5:40 PM

The Rangers will use the same lineup from Games 1 and 2 which means Matt Hunwick will be a healthy scratch for Game 3 Monday night.

With Kevin Klein now fully recovered from a broken forearm, Hunwick is the odd man out on the Rangers blue line. He was a huge help to the Rangers defense for the last month of the season and in the first round of the playoffs, but will unfortunately have to watch from the press box for the remainder of the playoffs unless a defenseman goes down with an injury. In the five game series with the Penguins, Hunwick was unable to record a point. Chris Summers and Ryan Bourque will also be scratched for Game 3 Monday.
