Mike Brown's fight with Kyle Clifford of the Kings helped the San Jose Sharks win on Wednesday.

Brown lost the fight but helped his teammates. "It’s a big play by him for us," coach Peter DeBoer said. "Big turning point, and not an easy thing to do. I think the guys respect what he went out and did there at a key point in the game." Brown will get penalty minutes and the occasional goal but you have to be aware that he will not play in every game as he will be a healthy scratch on plenty of occasions.
Oct 10 - 10:53 AM

It's not clear how Mike Brown fits into the San Jose Sharks' plans.

Sharks coach Pete DeBoer has expressed a preference for employing a fourth line that's capable of chipping in offensively. Brown has never been a significant offensive threat, so that would seem to throw his role on the fourth line into question, but DeBoer's statements on Brown specifically suggest otherwise. 'Mike is one of those guys that for me, can combine the toughness of being able to take on heavyweights if he has to, but you can also play him," DeBoer said. "I think that’s the new tough guy in the NHL, because it’s a four-line league now. … The teams that have the toughness, that you can actually play eight or 10 minutes a night, are the ones that have success. I think he’s one of those types of guys." If Brown does play regularly, then he will end up with plenty of penalty minutes.

Mike Brown (leg) was activated from the IL on Friday.

Brown saw the least amount of ice time by any player in the game on Friday as he played only 8:12 but he still managed three hits in the game. The tough fourth liner has been out of action since December 9 and has no points in nine NHL games this season.
Apr 4 - 2:02 AM

Mike Brown (leg) will remain on the sidelines Wednesday night when the Sharks host the Avalanche.

Brown hasn’t played since December 9th and has only appeared in eight games with the Sharks this season. He has yet to register a point and has 13 penalty minutes in those eight games. Look for him to return over the weekend. Barclay Goodrow will play on the fourth line in place of Brown.
Apr 1 - 5:37 PM

Mike Brown (leg) might be available for Wednesday's game.

Daniil Tarasov has already been returned to the minors in what could be interpreted as a move in preparation for Brown's return. Brown hasn't played since Dec. 9 and has only participated in eight games with San Jose in 2014-15.
Apr 1 - 10:21 AM

Mike Brown (leg) practiced Monday and he's hoping to return at some point during San Jose's seven-game road trip.

"Maybe halfway through or at the end of the trip, depending on how things recover," Brown said. "But it would be nice to get in the last however many NHL games are left in the season, just to get in. " The long road swing begins in Winnipeg on Tuesday night. Brown has been on the shelf since Dec. 9.
Mar 16 - 6:07 PM

Mike Brown (leg) might not be able to return before the end of the season.

Brown was originally projected to return by early February, but he hasn't even resumed practicing with the Sharks. "It's looking bleaker and bleaker for him as far as coming back and getting his game in order to have an impact," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "But, we're still going to work with him. We want him back in the lineup, but Mother Nature sometimes dictates which way that goes, too." Brown has no points and 13 penalty minutes in eight games this season.
Mar 12 - 11:29 AM

Mike Brown will miss four-to-six more weeks with a broken fibula.

Brown has already missed approximately two weeks, so expect him back in late January or early February. It's the 29-year-old's second significant injury this season. He missed 22 games because of a hand injury earlier in the year.

Mike Brown (lower body) has been moved to injured reserve by the Sharks.

He sustained a lower-body injury on Tuesday night against Edmonton. The extent of his injury is still uncertain, but he's expected to be out for a while.
Thu, Dec 11, 2014 05:48:00 PM

Coach Todd McLellan said that Mike Brown will miss "an extended period of time" due to a lower-body injury.

He was injured in Tuesday's game against Edmonton and his ankle may have been broken. Brown has zero points, 13 penalty minutes and 30 hits in eight games this campaign.

The San Jose Sharks are a perfect 6-0 with Mike Brown in the lineup.

Unfortunately for the Sharks, Brown missed 22 games with a hand injury and San Jose was only 8-10-4 during that span. Brown has 13 penalty minutes without a point this season.

Mike Brown is back in the Sharks’ lineup Saturday night against the Ducks after missing the last 22 with a hand injury.

Brown, who has officially been taken off the injured list, injured himself while blocking a shot Oct. 11 against the Jets. He will rejoin the lineup while playing on the fourth line with Andrew Desjardins and John Scott.

Mike Brown (hand) could return to action as early as Saturday.

Brown suffered a hand injury on October 9 when he blocked a Paul Postma shot. His main role in the NHL has been as an enforcer and as such, he needs his hands to be 100 percent or he will not be effective. The Sharks will have to drop someone from the 23 man roster to get him back on the squad so stay tuned for an update today.

Mike Brown (hand) is close to a return.

Brown suffered the injury on October 9 and since he has enforcer tendencies, the Sharks want his hand to be at 100 percent before he returns to the lineup. His fantasy value consists of his penalty minute total but he will chip in with an occasional point.
