The struggles experienced by winger David Jones this season make the remainder of his contract seem like an albatross for the Avalanche going forward.
Jones signed a four-year, $16 million deal prior to the season and delivered all of three goals in 33 games while spending numerous games in the press box as a healthy scratch. While he was coming off two consecutive 20-goal campaigns entering the year he was a huge disappointment this season and becomes a buyout candidate over the summer. Apr 28 - 10:22 AM

David Jones hopes to redeem his poor 2013 season with a good final 10 games.

Hones has only three goals and seven points in 28 games after returning to action on Monday from a knee injury. "When Jonesie's playing well, he's a physical player," coach Joe Sacco said. "He needs to play like that all the time, and I think he got away from that. He's a guy who needs to unnerve the opposition. He needs to get in on the forecheck and use his size and speed — and then he gets chances with his good shot after that. He's always been a streaky player, but this year he never really caught fire. But he's got a chance to finish well, at least." He replaced Aaron Palushaj in the Avs lineup as Palushaj was a healthy scratch.

David Jones (knee) will be a game time decision Monday.

Jones has missed the last three games with the injury and is hoping to get back in, especially with Milan Hejduk out of the lineup. Jones was a healthy scratch just before getting injured so he has a lot to prove once back in the lineup. He has only three goals and seven points after back-to-back 20 goal seasons. He is also minus-11 this season so we cannot recommend him at this time.

David Jones will be a healthy scratch Wednesday when the Avalanche host Dallas.

Coach Joe Sacco had this to stay about the decision: "In Jonesie's case, we've been real patient with him and trying to let him work his way out of the slump he's been in. But the bottom line is, I've got to put some guys in there that I think can maybe provide us with a little more at this time." He hasn't registered a point in nine straight games and has only seven points in 26 contests this year to go with a minus-10 rating.

David Jones has been moved to Ryan O'Reilly's line.

Jones was briefly playing with Paul Stastny and Gabriel Landeskog. "It's been a while now, where Jonesey has had some struggles. He needs to get his game going," Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said. "He's a big-bodied winger. He's got to play physical. He's got to win one-on-one puck battles. He's got to get going, and I have to find a way to get him going. He needs to be a bigger part of our team, and he can be." Jones has seven points and a minus-10 rating in 23 games this season.

David Jones has only three goals this season as the Avs hit the halfway mark of their season.

Jones had 20 goals and 37 points last season and a lot more was expected out of him this season, certainly more than three goals. If he is on your roster, reserve him until he is able to start scoring again.
