Teddy Purcell had a goal and two assists in Edmonton's 6-5 shootout loss on Sunday.
It was Purcell's first multi-point game since Nov. 7. He now has five goals and 17 points in 34 contests, which is a bit disappointing for him, especially when bundled with his minus-16 rating. He's capable of doing better, but we're not sure that he will, in part because the Oilers' offense as a whole has been just dreadful this season. Dec 22 - 8:25 AM

Date:

There's a chance that the Edmonton Oilers might give Teddy Purcell a shot alongside Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

Purcell's numbers have been modest (four goals, 14 points, -15 and 45 SOG in 30 games), but he has enough skill to potentially produce solid results with such strong linemates. It's a situation to watch in deeper leagues, at least.
Dec 13 - 1:09 PM

Teddy Purcell scored a goal in a 3-2 overtime loss on Wednesday.

Purcell has four goals and 11 points in 26 contests in 2014-15. He's capable of doing moderately better than that from a points-per-game perspective, but when you factor in his horrid minus-14 rating, it becomes hard to recommend him in standard leagues.
Dec 4 - 9:26 AM

Teddy Purcell scored a goal in a 3-1 victory against the New York Rangers Sunday night.

Purcell now has two goals and eight points in 15 contests in 2014-15. He had 42 points in his final season with Tampa Bay and he'll probably end up with similar numbers in his first campaign with Edmonton.
Nov 10 - 10:02 AM

Teddy Purcell had two assists in Edmonton's 3-2 victory over Buffalo.

Purcell snapped a six-game point drought. He now has a goal and six assists in 14 contests in 2014-15.
Nov 8 - 10:20 AM

Teddy Purcell had two assists in Edmonton's 3-2 victory on Wednesday.

Purcell endured a four-game scoreless slump. He has five points in seven contests in 2014-15, which isn't bad when you factor in that he's been averaging just 14:41 minutes per game.
Oct 23 - 8:51 AM

Teddy Purcell (undisclosed) took part in Tuesday's game.

Purcell's status was in doubt due to the ailment. He had a minus-two rating in 16:08 minutes of playing time.
Oct 15 - 2:06 AM

Edmonton forward Teddy Purcell will be considered day-to-day as he nurses an undisclosed injury.

Along with fellow forwards Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle, Purcell was given the day off from the team's morning skate Monday so that he could "benefit from an extra day of some rest and rehab," according to coach Dallas Eakins. Whatever is bothering Purcell, it doesn't seem too serious so he should be back in the lineup relatively soon.
Oct 13 - 8:17 PM

Teddy Purcell looked good in his Oilers debut.

Purcell potted a goal in a 5-2 loss to Calgary and it appeared that he played well alongside David Perron and Mark Arcobello. "I was a little nervous at the start," Purcell said. "That was a pretty exciting introduction and in your first game, it’s always good to get the nerves out of the way. I felt more comfortable as the game went on and I felt more comfortable with my linemates. I think the first 10 minutes, they (Calgary) had all their nerves out and they were kind of in-game mode, while we were kind of getting a feel for it. Before we knew it, we were down 2-0. Give them credit, they came in and stole two points when we had a lot of chances to win." Look for Purcell to get 40-45 points this season.
Oct 11 - 6:57 AM

Teddy Purcell was the beneficiary of some fortunate bounces that led to his goal late in the first, Thursday night.

After a long stretch pass from behind Fasth to the red line, Jesse Joensuu somehow chipped the puck from the right halfwall through two defenders to the slot where Purcell beat Lack to the far post. It was ugly and pretty all at once. Purcell finished the game with 16:41 of ice time, including 3:50 on the powerplay.
Oct 3 - 2:51 AM

Right winger Teddy Purcell said he got "yelled at a lot" for not taking more shots with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season.

He recorded 156 shots in 80 games last season. In 400 career NHL games, he has taken 776 shots. His new teammate in Edmonton, Taylor Hall, has taken 797 shots in only 246 games. But Purcell said it's different with the Oilers than it was with Tampa Bay. "There are lots of guys here who can make plays, so I’ll shoot more," he said. Purcell will be either the second- or third-line right-winger, depending on where Nail Yakupov is slotted. "I spoke to Dallas (coach Eakins) the day I got traded, and from what he says, he’ll give me lots of opportunities," said Purcell, who was also on the power play in Tampa. Purcell had a breakout year in 2011-12 when he managed 24 goals and 65 points but slumped last season with only 12 goals and 42 points.
Jul 27 - 10:10 AM

Teddy Purcell was caught off-guard by his trade to Edmonton on Sunday.

Purcell seemed to be established in Tampa Bay but obviously that was not the case. "It's a bit of a shock and the phone is blowing up, but other than that it's all good," Purcell said. "Steve (Yzerman) left me a voice mail to call him so I figured something was up. Any time you don't see something coming it's obviously a bit of a shock. Once it digests and sets in, I think it's going to be a good opportunity for me to play some good minutes with a lot of good young guys, so it's going to be exciting. I think it’s going to be exciting to play in a hockey crazy market and get a taste of what it’s like up there. I think it was good for me to start in places LA and Tampa Bay where the media wasn't so big and the (hockey) markets weren't so big. It allowed me to find my way and become an established player. Now I guess I’m going to see what I’m made of, if I can handle it all. It’s a true test of what kind of character you have."
Jun 30 - 8:06 AM

Teddy Purcell is on his way to Edmonton in a trade for center Sam Gagner.

The Oilers have lots of strength down the middle on their top two lines with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and the third overall pick Leon Draisaitl and needed help on the wing so Purcell is now an Oiler. He had a breakout year in 2011-12 when he managed 24 goals and 65 points but slumped last season with only 12 goals and 42 points so a change of scenery could do him a lot of good. Look for Purcell to be a top-six forward in Edmonton next season and get back to the 55-60 point range.
Jun 29 - 10:21 PM

Teddy Purcell scored Tampa Bay's lone goal in Game 2 late in the third period, as the Bolts were stymied by Carey Price and the Habs during a 4-1 loss.

Victor Hedman and Valtteri Filppula earned assists on Purcell's late goal, which came when the game was out of reach. The Lightning were a bit undisciplined, and made some crucial defensive zone gaffes in the loss, which puts them down 2-0 in the series with two games in Montreal coming up. Purcell has an impressive seven goals and 18 points through 20 career playoff games.
Apr 18 - 10:08 PM

Teddy Purcell (flu) will play on Sunday after all.

Purcell was initially expected to miss the contest due to an illness. He has 12 goals and 42 points in 80 games in 2013-14.
