Nov 2 - 12:32 PM

Shawn Matthias left Tuesday's game against Washington with a lower-body injury.

Matthias played just 3:24 in the game before leaving. The Jets have already announced that he won't be back tonight. They'll probably provide an update on his status after the game.
Nov 1 - 9:32 PM

Shawn Matthias scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday.

Matthias took a feed from Joel Armia and put the puck past former teammate Semyon Varlamov midway through the second period for the only score of the game. A very underrated forward, Matthias has bounced around a few NHL teams over the last couple of seasons. He currently does not possess any fantasy value playing on the third line with Adam Lowry and Joel Armia. The goal was Matthias' second of the season, and his third point.
Oct 29 - 12:01 AM

Shawn Matthias (upper body) took part in the season opener.

There was some doubt about his availability during training camp. In the end he scored a goal in the Jets' 5-4 overtime victory.
Oct 14 - 10:30 AM

Coach Paul Maurice said it's "possible" that the Jets may have Shawn Matthias (upper body) for Thursday's season opener.

Matthias posted 28 points in 71 games split between Toronto and Columbus, the points were a career high. He has five straight seasons of at least 21 points so we'd expect more of the same for the veteran pivot.

Shawn Matthias is considered week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

"He's healing faster than we originally thought so I'll have to stay I still don't know," coach Paul Maurice said when asked if Matthias will be ready for the season opener. "He may be 100 percent healthy by opening night but I can't tell you how many practices he's had heading into that so that will weigh into it as well." Matthias was hurt during a preseason match last week.
Oct 5 - 9:40 AM

Shawn Matthias' upper-body isn't believed to be serious, according to assistant coach Jamie Kompon.

"I don't think there's much of a concern," Kompon said Wednesday. Matthias left Tuesday's exhibition game early and should be considered day-to-day for now.
Sep 29 - 7:42 AM

Shawn Matthias exited Tuesday's preseason match because of an upper-body injury.

He left after the first period and took a puck to the face, but it's unclear if that is what caused the injury. Matthias was slated to be re-evaluated Wednesday morning.
Sep 28 - 9:16 AM

The Avalanche desperately wanted to re-sign Shawn Matthias, who inked a deal with Winnipeg.

If that was the case it is hard to believe. Matthias actually ended up signing for $2.125 million, a lower AVV than he had last season. Instead the Avs put their money on former Calgary Flame Joe Colborne. We will see if that works out for them.
Jul 2 - 12:08 PM

The Winnipeg Jets have inked Shawn Matthias to a two-year deal worth $4.25M.

The 28-year-old center is coming off five straight healthy seasons of double-digit goals and 20-plus points, including 12 goals and a new career high of 28 points last season with Toronto and Colorado. The quality depth winger however does not offer much fantasy value.
Jul 1 - 3:25 PM

Shawn Matthias now has 10 points in 17 games with the Avalanche.

The 28-year-old collected his fifth goal and assist during Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Nashville. Matthias is no revelation for Colorado, but that kind of production can get a job on any team.
Apr 6 - 1:45 AM

Shawn Matthias had the game-winning goal in Monday's 4-3 win over Nashville.

He gave the Avalanche a 4-1 lead in the third period and was credited with the winner after the Predators nearly came back to tie it. Matthias cashed in on a breakaway with 7:47 remaining. It was his 10th goal of the season and eighth point in 14 games with Colorado.

Mar 29 - 11:38 AM

Shawn Matthias has three goals and four assists in 11 contests since joining the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avalanche acquired Matthias from Toronto on Feb. 21. At the time he had a modest six goals and 17 points in 51 games with the Maple Leafs. "It's been a great fit. I fit in well with the style of play and the guys," said Matthias. "It's been a good experience, a good opportunity, and this is a good team and I'm playing with two great hockey players." Matthias has been playing alongside Gabriel Landeskog and Carl Soderberg. If that line stays intact then it wouldn't be shocking for Matthias to stay strong for the remainder of the season.

Mar 24 - 10:34 AM

Shawn Matthias found the back of the net in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Anaheim.

Matthias was acquired from the Maple Leafs prior to the trade deadline and he seems to have fit in well with his new team. The 28-year-old had five goals in 50 games with Toronto, but he's scored four times in eight games for Colorado.
