Abdelakder, who jammed home a loose puck, was standing in the crease when Frans Nielsen's shot trickled through Robin Lehner. The power-play tally tied the game at two with less than 1:30 remaining in regulation. The 30-year-old has 10 goals and 26 points in 53 games this season. He's registered one point in three of his last four games. Jonathan Ericsson also scored for the Red Wings in the overtime loss. Marco Scandella scored the game-winner for Buffalo.

The Detroit Red Wings are trying not to focus on the distractions that come with the trade deadline.

The Wings are out of the playoff picture, so it's only normal that they'll be open for business when it comes to making trades. But Justin Abdelkader stressed the importance of not allowing it to be a distraction. "That’s out of our control," Abdelkader said. "We just have to go out and continue to play hard and I think we’ve done a good job of that lately. You have to try cancel out all the noise and just focus – we are paid to come out and work hard and give our best effort each game."

The NHL has decided not to punish Abdelkader with a fine for his slew foot of Johnny Boychuk.

The NHL deemed it as being more of a distinct kicking motion. It's a bit surprising Abdelkader won't even get a fine but he'll probably be on a tight leash moving forward.
