Sami Lepisto drew into the Chicago lineup on Saturday after being a healthy scratch in Game 1.

Lepisto replaced Sean O'Donnell on the Chicago blueline but played only 4:25 minutes in the Blackhawks 4-3 overtime win. He could remain in the Chicago lineup for Game 3 Tuesday as it is unlikely that coach Joel Quenneville will tinker with a winning lineup.

Sami Lepisto (leg) could return to the lineup on Saturday.

Lepisto was injured a month ago and will be ready for the post-season. He is not worth grabbing in playoff pools unless it is a very, very deep league.

He suffered the ailment on Tuesday night when St. Louis forward David Perron fell on him. "Sami's ... out not just day-to-day," coach Joel Quenneville said. "He's out for a bit here." Lepisto has three points, 22 hits and a plus-3 rating in 25 games with the Blackhawks in 2011-12.

Life as the Blackhawks’ No. 8 defenseman has been very tough for Sami Lepisto, who had played only three times since Nov. 18 before playing in San Jose Friday night because of injuries to other Chicago blueliners.

He was last in the lineup Jan. 2 against the Edmonton Oilers, a span of 15 games, seeing only 5:22 of ice time. "It’s been awhile,’’ he said. "Of course, you’re frustrated. You feel good but just don’t get to play. Obviously, it sucks. You just try to work in practice as hard as you can.’’ Chicago coach Joel Quenneville didn’t offer a detailed explanation for not playing Lepisto, only saying it’s tough to juggle eight defensemen. He has preferred to play enforcer John Scott, a healthy scratch Friday, over Lepisto for most of the season. ‘‘Sometimes you have to make some tough decisions,’’ Quenneville said. ‘‘I was telling Sami the other day to be patient and that things can change quickly, and here he is.’’

Sami Lepisto played Monday after being a healthy scratch for the previous eight games.

Lepisto drew into the lineup when Steve Montador was unable to go due to an upper body injury. "It's frustrating, but I've always been pretty good about getting my thoughts off of hockey as soon as I leave the rink," Lepisto said before Monday's game. "I work hard, but at the same time I can just focus on other things too. Being in the great city of Chicago there's always stuff to do and keep your thoughts happy, but obviously I'd rather be playing." Lepisto saw 5:22 minutes of action and had a shot on goal.

Sami Lepisto and John Scott were healthy scratches for Chicago against Detroit on Friday.

It's getting to be a regular habit for Lepisto who has played only 10 games for Chicago and none since December 10. He is without a point this season although he is plus-four. Marcus Kruger missed his second straight game with a concussion.

Sami Lepisto played for the first time since November 18 as he replaced Sean O'Donnell on the blueline.

Lepisto played 12:31 minutes on Thursday with a couple of shots on net. He had been a healthy scratch in 12 of the previous 14 games so it was nice to see him get some ice time with the Blackhawks. He has no fantasy value.

Sami Lepisto has spent 12 of Chicago's last 14 games in the press box.

"I just try to work hard in practice," Lepisto said. "Of course it's frustrating to sit out that long (but) what can you do? I have to battle through it." Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville praised his attitude and work ethic in practices, so he might get another opportunity soon. He inked a one-year/$750,000 contract in the off-season.
