James Reimer will seemingly get a fresh chance to earn a bigger piece of the Maple Leafs' goaltending job this season.

With an open-minded Mike Babcock taking over the coaching reigns, Reimer has a chance to unseat Jonathan Bernier, who got the majority of the starts in the Leafs' goal last season. It is a battle worth watching. There is a lot at stake for Reimer as he is slated to become an UFA on July 1st.

James Reimer can be an unrestricted free agent after the 2015-16 season and he would like to stay with the Maple Leafs.

"This is the only organization I know and it was always my dream when I got drafted to play my whole career here," Reimer said. "It's one of the best, I mean it is the best place to play and by far the best place to win and having seen that there is no place I would rather go. Hopefully, I can keep working hard and keep earning the job and we can have a lot of success." He likes the new culture the Leafs are building and he's looking forward to working with coach Mike Babcock.

James Reimer allowed four goals on 20 shots during Toronto's embarrassing 5-0 loss to the Blue Jackets in Columbus Wednesday night.

Reimer entered the game allowing only two goals on 91 shots in his past two appearances. But this game was a clunker for the veteran netminder, and he was benched immediately after Columbus went ahead 4-0 at 3:30 of the second period. Jonathan Bernier replaced Reimer and made 11 saves, allowing one goal. Reimer's record fell to 9-16-1. His goals-against average is now a very unimpressive 3.16 in 35 appearances, and his save percentage is .907. To suggest that Reimer has been inconsistent this season would be the epitome of understatement.

James Reimer's 49 save performance against Boston on Saturday really gave the Leafs a boost according to some of his teammates.

The Leafs lost 2-1 in a shootout but goaltending clearly wasn't the problem. "It gives you a little more confidence up front and it just boosts the morale on the bench," Leafs forward David Booth said of Reimer’s performance. "That energy, it was good to see." Both Reimer and Jonathan Bernier have struggled in the new year so it was nice to see Toronto get some consistency between the pipes. Reimer has a 9-15-1 record with a 3.06 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage this season.

Reimer was fantastic, but that’s how the year has gone for the Leafs this season. Reimer has given up two goals on 89 shots over his past two games, so he should be getting some more looks as the season winds down. He has a 3.06 goals-against average and .909 save percentage this season.

James Reimer will get the start Saturday against the Bruins.

Mar 28 - 10:05 PM

He didn't fare very well against Ottawa the last time he started against the Sens a week ago. He allowed three goals on 15 shots and was pulled. Before that start, Reimer had a very good 10-3 mark against the Sens. Start him at your own risk, however.
