James Reimer could start the 2016-17 season as the Panthers' starting goalie.
That is because number one netminder Roberto Luongo may not be fully recovered following off-season hip surgery. The Panthers inked Reimer to a long-term deal on Friday as they were not comfortable with Reto Berra being Luongo's backup. Look for Reimer to play quite a bit this upcoming season, perhaps as much as 35-40 games as the Panthers will be mindful of not wearing the 37-year-old Luongo down. Jul 2 - 9:56 AM

Date:

James Reimer will get $17.5 million over his five year contract.

No terms were announced when he signed but they are available now. Reimer will backup Roberto Luongo and should be taken as a handcuff in drafts for next season.
Jul 1 - 12:42 PM

The Florida Panthers have inked goaltender James Reimer to a five year contract.

Reimer will back up Roberto Luongo for now and he could replace the netminder in a few years. For now, Reimer should see action in 30 games or so and should get 15-18 win with good peripherals in fantasy pools. He is worth a pickup to handcuff Luongo.
Jul 1 - 12:13 PM

GM Doug Wilson all but said that James Reimer, Nick Spaling, Dainius Zubrus and Roman Polak will not be re-signed before they become UFA's on July 1.

This is no surprise as the Sharks will look to bring some of their cheaper minor leaguers up to do the job. Reimer has a few spots to look at but they will be in a backup role most likely. Teams like Anaheim and Edmonton are in the market for a backup and it remains to be seen where Reimer winds up. He was 17-14-7 with a 2.31 GAA and a .922 save percentage in 40 games with the Sharks and Toronto in 2015-16.
Jun 26 - 7:57 AM

James Reimer is expected to test free agency on July 1.

He is likely to find a team that is looking for a number one goalie or a situation where he can compete for the top job. Reimer played well for Toronto and San Jose in 2015-16.
Jun 21 - 2:05 PM

James Reimer admitted that he's already looking at teams that could potentially need a starting goaltender next season.

Reimer is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, but says his primary focus in finishing the job with the San Jose Sharks. "Right now you’re focused on the job at hand. I’m trying to get that silver thing," said Reimer. "(Still), you kind of know what teams are in the market and might need a goalie. I’ve kind of heard too that people who go into free agency, they have their short list of two or three teams they think are in the market. Plus there always are teams that come in from left field. You kind of see here or there potential teams that need goalies. But you have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes and a team that might have a solidified goaltending (landscape)."
Jun 12 - 11:12 AM

James Reimer gave up one goal on seven shots in relief of Martin Jones on Saturday night.

Reimer came in midway through the game after Jones allowed four goals on 19 shots. The Sharks steadied a bit defensively from that point forward. Reimer had not played since April 5. We wouldn’t expect coach Peter DeBoer to turn away from Jones at this point. The series is 2-2 heading to St. Louis.
May 21 - 10:17 PM

James Reimer collected his third shutout in eight games with the Sharks during Tuesday's 3-0 win over Minnesota.

Reimer turned away all 29 shots, including all four on special teams. He's now 6-2-0 with San Jose with just 13 goals against.
Apr 6 - 2:16 AM

James Reimer will start Tuesday's game at Minnesota.

Reimer owns a 5-2-0 record with a 1.85 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in seven appearances with the Sharks. He will be an option for San Jose in the postseason, but it sounds like Martin Jones will get the nod in Game 1.
Apr 4 - 3:51 PM

James Reimer gave up two goals on 30 shots in the Sharks’ 3-2 shootout win against the Predators on Saturday night.

Reimer allowed the game’s first two goals, then was stingy from 1:38 of the second period forward. He has allowed three goals over his past two starts. Reimer sports a 2.38 GAA and .920 SV%.
Apr 2 - 11:15 PM

James Reimer will be between the pipes for the Sharks against the Predators on Saturday night.

Reimer got the start Tuesday against the Canucks, when he blocked 23 of 24 shots against. He has a 2.38 GAA and .920 SV%.
Apr 2 - 6:30 PM

James Reimer made 23 saves in a 4-1 win over Vancouver on Tuesday.

Reimer was sharp early and often in this game and was rewarded for it. It was a nice bounce back after allowing five goals in a loss to Edmonton in his last start. Reimer has improved his numbers steadily since coming to the Silicon Valley and now posts a 15-14-7 record to go with a 2.38 GAA and .920 save percentage.
Mar 30 - 2:23 AM

James Reimer will start in goal against Vancouver on Tuesday night.

Reimer has actually already seen Vancouver once while with San Jose, it was in his first game and he lost it while allowing three goals on 25 shots. Since then he's 3-1 with a pair of shutouts. We'd favor Reimer and the Sharks in tonight's rematch.
Mar 29 - 8:44 PM

James Reimer had his first stinker with Sharks during Thursday's 6-3 loss to Edmonton.

Reimer turned away just 16 of 21 shots in the process, giving up a few goals he'd certainly like to have back. He's now 3-2-0 with 11 goals against and two shutouts in five games with the Sharks thus far.
Mar 25 - 1:14 AM

James Reimer will get the nod for San Jose Thursday night.

Reimer has started in four games with the Sharks and two of those have been shutouts. He has a 2.35 GAA and .922 save percentage in 36 contests in 2015-16.
