With Miikka Kiprusoff's wife giving birth, the Calgary Flames decided to recall Daniel Taylor from the AHL.

We'll see if he or Joey MacDonald gets the start on Monday. Both players will face an interesting challenge in the Dallas Stars, who must be angry after getting destroyed 8-1 by the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.

Flames goaltender Daniel Taylor was solid in Sunday's outing en route to a 4-2 win over the Canucks.

Taylor blocked 29 of 31 shots and delivered with his first career win in the league. All signs point to Miikka Kiprusoff returning to action soon, but Joey MacDonald is also somewhere in the mix for playing time, making Taylor more risky than he should be.

Daniel Taylor allowed four goals on 37 shots in the Flames 4-0 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes.

Taylor got off to a shaky start to his NHL career, allowing his first goal 41 seconds into the game. He settled down until the third period where the team collapsed and the Coyotes scored three times. He's a rookie on a mediocre team so results like these are going to happen. Better to leave him be until he proves himself.

Daniel Taylor is ready for his second shot in the NHL.

Taylor logged 20 minutes with the Los Angeles Kings back in 2007-08 and ended up allowing two goals. Now 26-years-old, Taylor is back in the NHL as Leland Irving's understudy while Miikka Kiprusoff (lower body) is day-to-day. "Coming back into it, I know what to expect," said Taylor. "My game’s really come a long way as far as my mental side. If my number’s called again, I’ll definitely be a lot more ready than I was before." Irving will start on Thursday.

Daniel Taylor has bounced around the AHL ranks but has seemed to found a home with the Flames organization.

The 25-year-old finished the season with a 2.21 goals-against average and .927 save percentage with the Abbotsford Heat, most numbers he accumulated since being tabbed the No. 1 in December. Taylor's efforts currently have the Heat up 2-0 in their first-round series. "He’s a guy that was trying to get an identity," coach Troy Ward said. "He found himself like a lot of goalies do — he wasn’t a typical prospect. Everywhere he went, guys would come back after being hurt or whatever and prospects would be signed. He’d find himself out of favour, regardless of his play. Sometime, in life, it’s a timing thing."

Daniel Taylor has been outstanding since being promoted to Manchester of the AHL.

Taylor is 6-1 with a save percentage of .921 and a 2.17 goals-against-average. He has been starting ahead of the Kings goalie of the future, Jonathan Bernier. Keep an eye on him in the future.
