Tom Sestito has signed a professional tryout contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.

Sestito was released from his PTO with Pittsburgh earlier this week so he signed with their AHL club. The 28-year-old has played 128 NHL games and his fantasy value is in penalty minutes as he led the NHL in that category in 2013-14 with 213 minutes in 77 games.

The Vancouver Canucks don't intend to hold onto Tom Sestito.

Sestito had an assist and seven penalty minutes in three games with Vancouver this season. He was sent to AHL Utica in early January. The Canucks are trying to move Sestito. It's not clear if the next step is to release him if they can't find a taker for his contract.

Tom Sestito thinks that he will be back in the NHL next season.

Sestito led the NHL in penalty minutes with 213 last season but with fighting down, the Canucks rarely used the 27-year-old and put him on waivers three weeks ago. He was sent to Utica of the AHL when he passed through waivers as he had an assist and seven penalty minutes in three NHL games this season. "It’s changing but I’m not worried about it too much right now," Sestito said. "It’s pretty tough to get picked up off waivers because clubs have cap issues with roster spots and contracts. I’m pretty confident and I’ll be up in the NHL somewhere next year. I showed I can play and I’ve just got to get more confidence down here and there will be an NHL team that will want me — maybe by the (trade) deadline or maybe next year. I believe that. I’m sure I’ll be back."

Tom Sestito will be a healthy scratch Sunday when the Canucks visit the Ducks.

Sestito had just played in the Canucks last game on December 22nd, but with head coach Willie Desjardins' decision to promote Derek Dorsett to the second line and Jannik Hansen healthy again, Sestito will once again be a healthy scratch. In three games played on the year, he has one assist and has not been worthy of a fantasy spot.

Tom Sestito played for the first time since November 2nd on Monday night against Arizona, he took seven penalty minutes in 9:39 of ice time.

Sestito had his first fight of the season, and it was against Kyle Chipchura of all people. Sestito also took a slashing minor in the final minute of the game to go along with three hits. If you're in a league that rewards his talents, keep an eye on him to see if he isn't a regular in the lineup.

Sestito led the NHL in penalty minutes last season with 213 in 77 games but he has only played twice this season as coach Willie Desjardins has not seen the need to use him. Neither should you at this time.
