Date:

Nathan Gerbe is Carolina's nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy.

Though Gerbe is often listed as 5-foot-5, Gerbe's height is actually 5-foot-4. This in a league where the big topic about Johnny Gaudreau prior to his NHL debut was if his 5-foot-9 height would make transitioning from college to professional hockey difficult. In Gerbe's case, he's managed to play in 388 career NHL games thus far despite suffering some serious injuries along the way. This season he missed 25-contests for example with a high ankle sprain. "Being 5-4, I know nothing’s going to be easy," he said. "Every game, every shift I view as basically a tryout because I know the second I don’t play well it’s easy to shoot me down the lineup and say ‘Oh, he can’t play, he’s too small.’ I view it as a challenge every day and I relish that."

Nathan Gerbe and Brad Malone will be scratched against the Maple Leafs on Thursday night.

Malone is on waivers, so it's no surprise he's a scratch. But Gerbe could be next with just three points in 27 games this season.

Nathan Gerbe will be a healthy scratch in Thursday's game against the Ottawa Senators.

The 28-year-old has one goal and three points in 27 games this season. This will be his third straight game as a healthy scratch. Brad Malone will join him in the press box.

Nathan Gerbe and Brad Malone will be scratched against the Jets on Tuesday.

With just three points in 27 games this season, the veteran winger Gerbe appears to have lost his scoring touch. With 52 PIMs and 84 hits in 37 games this season, Malone is the one that provides a potential bit of value.
Feb 16 - 6:37 PM

After missing the last three games as a healthy scratch, Nathan Gerbe will return to the lineup Friday against the Jets.

Gerbe will skate to the left of Jay McClement and Riley Nash on Carolina's fourth line. However he doesn't pose much fantasy value. Through 24 games the veteran forward has posted just three points and not much else.
Feb 5 - 6:59 PM

Nathan Gerbe will be scratched against Chicago on Tuesday night.

Through 24 games this season the veteran forward Gerbe has produced just three points and 29 hits thus far. Or, not very much value at all unfortunately.
Jan 26 - 7:14 PM

Nathan Gerbe, Riley Nash, and Brett Pesce will each be scratched from Sunday's match with Calgary.

Unfortunately the only one who's amassed any fantasy value is Pesce with 12 points in 21 games so far, but he's out with a lower body injury. Gerbe and Nash simply haven't produced as veterans.
Jan 24 - 6:06 PM

Nathan Gerbe (lower body) has been taken off of the injured reserve list.

Gerbe hasn't played since Nov. 22. He has a goal and three points in 20 contests in 2015-16.
Jan 15 - 12:07 PM

Nathan Gerbe will be out for four-to-six weeks with a lower-body injury.

He was injured Sunday against Los Angeles after he was hit by Kyle Clifford. In 20 games this season, Gerbe has posted just one goal and two assists. He has been placed on injured reserve by the Hurricanes.
Tue, Nov 24, 2015 12:04:00 PM

Nathan Gerbe left Sunday's tilt with the Kings due to a lower body injury.

It was a short game for Gerbe, who saw just 1:57 of action before being forced to leave by a Kyle Clifford hit. Gerbe has three points in 20 games this season, so his departure should not cause a stir in the fantasy world.
Sun, Nov 22, 2015 05:06:00 PM

Nathan Gerbe has a goal and two assists in 12 games in 2015-16.

Gerbe is not a serious offensive contributor, but his point-per-game pace is still below what we expect from him. We're looking for him to flirt with the 30-point mark this season.
Tue, Nov 3, 2015 09:15:00 AM

Nathan Gerbe found the back of the net in a 3-2 loss to Detroit.

Gerbe has 10 goals and 27 points in 76 games this season. The 27-year-old forward shouldn't be counted on to do much better than that in future campaigns.
Wed, Apr 8, 2015 10:52:00 AM

Nathan Gerbe scored a goal in Sunday's 2-1 overtime loss to Boston.

Gerbe's second period goal tied the game at one but rookie David Pastrnak eventually scored the game-winning goal in overtime. Chris Terry and Danny Biego picked up the assists on Gerbe's goal. The 27-year-old now has eight goals and 25 points in 71 games this season. Gerbe is a useful NHL player but his fantasy upside is extremely limited.
Sun, Mar 29, 2015 08:18:00 PM

Nathan Gerbe is the Carolina Hurricanes nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy.

The Masterton is given to the NHL player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. The diminutive forward has overcome severe back problems to play the last two seasons with the Hurricanes after the Sabres bought out his contract. He has seven goals and 24 points this season and played last game on the first unit with Eric and Jordan Staal.
