Nathan Gerbe will probably be a healthy scratch for a second straight game Thursday.

"I think he's working hard, but we have to make some tough decisions right now in our lineup," interim coach Ron Rolston said of Gerbe. "I can only have 12 forwards in there and [he] was a player that I think didn't give us a reason to keep him in right now. And that's what he has to work for." The 25-year-old forward has only three goals and three assists in 25 games this season.
Mar 21 - 2:33 PM

Nathan Gerbe registered a shorthanded goal in the Sabres' 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Rangers Sunday.

Gerbe is heating up a little now, with three goals in his last three contests after being held scoreless for the first 16 outings of the season. Drew Stafford also registered just his second marker of the year in the shootout defeat.
Mar 3 - 10:30 PM

Nathan Gerbe scored his first goal in 21 games Thursday night.

In fact, the 25-year-old broke out with two. He's still not close to being relevant in fantasy leagues, as he had just 25 points all of last season. "I want to score goals, but I still go into every game with a worker's mentality," said Gerbe. "My speed the past 10 to 12 games has been good. I feel like I'm getting my legs, getting chances. Hopefully I can keep it rolling and keep scoring."
Mar 1 - 9:25 AM

Nathan Gerbe scored two goals for the Sabres in a 4-3 shootout win over Florida Thursday.

The goals were the first two of the campaign for Gerbe and the game represented one of the few times this season Buffalo was not entirely reliant on its top line for offense. Tyler Ennis also picked up a goal and an assist in the victory while Steve Ott registered three helpers.
Feb 28 - 11:24 PM

Nathan Gerbe will probably draw back into Buffalo's lineup on Thursday night.

He was a healthy scratch on Tuesday versus Toronto, but with Patrick Kaleta out of commission due to a neck injury the Sabres need someone to step in. Gerbe has no points, three shots and a minus-2 rating in three games this campaign.
Jan 30 - 6:02 PM

Nathan Gerbe logged 10:06 of ice time in his return to the lineup from off-season back surgery.

He had one shot and suffered a bit of a scare when he was the victim of a boarding penalty from Carolina forward Drayson Bowman in the first period. "That's something that made me go in for the back surgery from the start," Gerbe said. "I'm expecting to be sore. Right now it's not too bad, but I'm sure tomorrow it'll be a different story."
Jan 25 - 7:05 AM

Nathan Gerbe will be activated by the Sabres after recovering from his back injury and he will make his season debut on Thursday.

He will play alongside Mikhail Grigorenko and Steve Ott against Carolina. Gerbe had six goals and 25 points in 62 games last season.
Jan 24 - 3:18 PM

Nathan Gerbe (back) returned to practice on Wednesday and said he feels ready to play on Thursday.

"I hope I'm playing," said Gerbe, who still needs the green light from the medical staff to be taken off Buffalo's injured reserve list. "It's been a very long, long, long recovery for me. I've been out since basically April, and to come back this is my first game lockout or no lockout, this is about the time I'd be ready anyways, so I'm pretty excited."
Jan 23 - 1:45 PM

Nathan Gerbe will start the NHL season on the injured list.

He is still recovering from July spinal surgery and is likely a few weeks away from being cleared for contact. The good news is that Gerbe is skating. The Sabres will have to make a decision as to whether highly touted rookie Mikhail Grigorenko will remain with the club for the season after the fifth game of the season. That could be when we see Gerbre inserted back into the Buffalo lineup.
Jan 19 - 8:44 AM

Nathan Gerbe (back) skated with his teammates on Sunday, but he'll likely start the season on injured reserve.

He underwent spinal surgery in July for neck and back issues that never improved following a hit from behind into the boards from Philadelphia's Marc-Andre Bourdon back in December 2011. "This week will be a good indicator for me. To be with other players was great but a big change for me," said Gerbe. "I need to be comfortable and confident that I can turn and I can go hit guys. It's hard to say that now. I just got to see how the week goes and how my body reacts." He hasn't received the green light for contact yet.
Jan 14 - 10:38 AM

Nathan Gerbe is making progress after having back surgery this past summer.

Buffalo GM Darcy Regier referred to Gerbe as part of the "unknowns" until the team can assess him when they meet for physicals. It is unclear if he will be ready for the start of the year.
Jan 9 - 10:35 AM

Nathan Gerbe revealed that he had spinal surgery over the summer.

Gerbe was only able to resume skating in December. "It's been a good time for me to get healthy," said Gerbe. "I had spine surgery in the summer... I'm just starting to catch my groove and get strong again, and hopefully I can get back at some point this season." It's not known if he would be healthy in time for a theoretical Jan. 19 start to the 2013 campaign.

Jan 4 - 8:00 AM

Nathan Gerbe had a procedure for a mid-body injury over the summer, according to Sabres GM Darcy Regier.

Gerbe is still rehabbing and it's not clear when he'll be ready to play. He had six goals and 25 points in 62 games last season. He's not expected to have much fantasy value following the lockout.

Nathan Gerbe skated with his Buffalo teammates during the second half of informal workouts on Friday.

He skated on his own in a track suit though, as he is recovering from an undisclosed off-season injury according to John Vogl of the Buffalo News. Gerbe had a lower back ailment that resulted in him missing a chance to play for Team USA at the World Championships, but it's unclear if that is the reason why he is hurt now. We'll keep him as active for the time being and if training camps start on time then the Sabres' team doctors should tell us more.
