Ville Leino didn't play on Sunday due to an upper body injury.

Sabres coach Ron Rolston described it as a "muscle strain" and is hopeful that Leino will play on Tuesday. Leino has two goals and six points in eight games due to a hip injury.
Apr 1 - 8:30 AM

Ville Leino sniped two goals in Buffalo's 4-3 loss to the Capitals on Saturday night.

Leino's goals were his first of the season, which has been comprised of just eight games. Christian Ehrhoff had the other goal, while five different Sabers chipped in with assists.

Ville Leino (hip) will return to the Buffalo Sabres' lineup on Saturday.

Leino hasn't played yet this season due to the injury. Buffalo's odds of making the playoffs are slim at this point, so they need all the help they can get. That said, Leino is coming off of a disastrous 2011-12 campaign, so we recommend tempering your expectations. It's probably better to wait and see what he does in his first game or two back rather than grabbing him preemptively in standard leagues
Mar 16 - 1:14 PM

Ville Leino (hip) is "highly likely" to make his season debut Saturday afternoon versus Ottawa.

The Sabres will need to remove someone from their roster in order to activate Leino, who hasn't played yet this season because of a hip injury. Forwards Brian Flynn and Marcus Foligno don't have to clear waivers to be sent down, but interim coach Ron Rolston will discuss who to demote or possibly trade with GM Darcy Regier before a decision is made.
Mar 15 - 7:32 AM

Ville Leino (hip) is unlikely to make his return to the lineup Tuesday against the New York Rangers.

Leino has been practicing with the team and is on the verge of returning. The Sabres don't play again after Tuesday's contest until Saturday afternoon in Ottawa, so it's entirely possible the team just wanted to take one more game to evaluate the roster before clearing space for Leino.
Mar 12 - 11:47 AM

Ville Leino (hip) is projected to be a game-time decision for Tuesday night's game versus the New York Rangers.

"I feel really good, so we'll see," said Leino Monday after he wasn't able to return against Philadelphia on Sunday. "It would have been good extra momentum to play against an old team and a fun rink to play, so it would have been good. But we're looking at this day now, and we'll go from there." He hasn't played yet this season because of a hip injury.
Mar 11 - 2:51 PM

Ville Leino (hip) isn't likely to make his season debut on Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Leino was hoping to participate in that game, but Sabres coach Ron Rolston doesn't sound optimistic. "We're just trying to get him back into practice and get him quality practice time," Rolston said. "Really grinding, get him in more competitive situations. It will be close. I don't know when. I would doubt Sunday but certainly next week a strong possibility."
Mar 8 - 6:18 PM

Ville Leino (hip) is hoping to return to Buffalo's lineup Sunday against his former team in Philadelphia.

"Philly would probably be one of the good options here," he said following Wednesday's practice. "I'm having a lot of fun out there. I wish practices would run longer, and that normally doesn't happen during the season. It's pretty exciting." Leino hasn't played yet this season because of a hip injury.
Mar 6 - 4:32 PM

Ville Leino (hip) was able to participate in Buffalo's Saturday morning skate.

"I felt surprisingly good," Leino said. "It was definitely positive. We’ll try to build on that, and we’ll see later on today and tomorrow how it recovers from that. It's really definitely felt the best I've felt so far. To be honest with you, before today I was having my doubts. It’s not like I can say now I’ll play in a couple days or so, but today I really was positive and feel good about it. Now I’m trusting more it will happen soon." There's still no timetable for his return, but this is obviously an encouraging development.
Feb 23 - 3:34 PM

The Buffalo Sabres are going to try another treatment for Ville Leino's ailing hip after the previous one didn't induce the response that the team wanted.

Surgery hasn't been brought up yet, but coach Lindy Ruff is concerned that Leino may not play this season. "I guess the answer would be yes because he hasn't played yet," Ruff said. "We're trying a different type of treatment again for what he has. You hope you can gain some traction from it. The answer is I don't know."
Feb 6 - 10:17 AM

Ville Leino (hip) might not be able to play this season, according to Sabres coach Lindy Ruff.

Leino hasn't been improving and he might end up needing surgery. "This latest treatment option we hope will work," Ruff said. "Surgery is always the the end of the line. You go to a surgeon, he's going to recommend surgery. That's just the way it goes." Leino had a rough debut season with the Sabres, but he had 53 points in 81 games in 2010-11.
Feb 4 - 2:28 PM

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff denied a report that Ville Leino will require surgery on his injured hip.

"There's no talk about surgery right now. We might as well just squash that," Ruff said. "Maybe down the road it happens. I don't know. But right now there's some other treatment options that are possible. We had an MRI on it and it looked OK. These hip things are things that can go a lot of different directions." If Leino does end up needing surgery, he probably won't be able to return before the end of the shortened season.
Jan 25 - 1:11 PM

Ville Leino (leg) has been moved to injured reserve by the Buffalo Sabres.

He was placed on the IR, retroactive to Sunday, in order to make room on the roster for the return of Nathan Gerbe. Leino hasn't played yet this season because of a lower-body injury that he is believed to be to his leg.
Jan 24 - 3:14 PM

Ville Leino (lower body) won't play Monday versus Toronto.

He didn't suit up in Buffalo's season opener Sunday against Philadelphia either. "We'll just take it day by day," coach Lindy Ruff said of Leino. "He tried it again today and it didn't feel well enough to play."
