Brett Bellemore isn't concerning himself with the Carolina Hurricanes' moves over the offseason to acquire and sign defensemen.

"I try not to worry too much about the moves that they make," Bellemore said. "This summer, I just focused on myself and tried to come into camp the best shape that I could to try and keep a job here. That was my mentality." Although Bellemore doesn't have an easy path towards making the team, he can't be ruled out. He's had a strong training camp and, as Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller put it, "his stock has gone up."

Defenseman Brett Bellemore impressed in his first preseason game on Wednesday and has a chance to crack the Carolina lineup.

Bellemore is a big defenseman who will help clearing the front the Hurricanes net, a job that every team in the NHL could use. He played eight games in the NHL last season, picking up two assists and seven penalty minutes. "He's gotten stronger and a little more confident with the puck," his coach at Charlotte of the AHL, Jeff Daniels said. "He's always had that long reach and good hockey sense defensively. He's learning to use his body more. Some stuff just takes time." Bellemore is on a two-way contract so the 25-year-old could start the season in the minors. He is not worth selecting at this time in fantasy pools.
