Zach Bogosian is hoping to rediscover his offensive game under new Sabres' coach Phil Housley.
Bogosian, who was a point-per-game defenseman in his last season in juniors at the age of 17, has never topped 30 points in an NHL campaign. Last year, Bogosian registered a mere 11 points, his worst total in the NHL. Housley, an All-Star rushing rearguard in his playing days, is hoping to get Buffalo's blueliners more involved in the offense this season. Bogosian could be the major benefactor under the Sabres' new system. Keep an eye on this situation going forward. Sep 17 - 8:47 AM

Zach Bogosian logged a career-high 33:29 of ice time on Tuesday night.

He got some increased responsibility after Rasmus Ristolainen was ejected early into the match for a hit on Pittsburgh's Jake Guentzel. Buffalo has a banged up defense right now, with recent call-ups Brady Austin and Casey Nelson in the lineup, so that also contributed to Bogosian's playing time.

Zach Bogosian will return from a rib injury on Tuesday night.

He has sat out five games due to the ailment, but made good progress on Monday and feels ready to play. Bogosian has five points and a minus-13 rating in 30 appearances this season.
Feb 14 - 12:39 PM

Zach Bogosian (ribs) could be ready to return as soon as Tuesday's game versus Ottawa.

"It's been feeling a lot better. I got some contact in at practice, so that was really the last test for me. The contact was what was kind of holding me back a little bit," he said Monday. "All that checked out today, so we'll just see how it goes and have a conversation with the trainers and coach and go from there." He has missed the past five games with a rib injury.

Feb 3 - 8:19 AM

Zach Bogosian scored at the 1:48 mark of overtime to give the Sabres a 3-2 win over the Canadiens Saturday night.

This was Bogosian’s first goal of the season and only his fourth point. He was joined fellow defenseman Cody Franson for two of the three Sabre goals. While Bogosian’s score was unexpected, it came with an assist from Evander Kane and Ryan O’Reilly, each of whom had two during the night.
Jan 21 - 9:56 PM

Zach Bogosian will play in his 500th career NHL game on Friday night against Carolina.

If it feels like Bogosian has been around forever, it might be because he has been. The 26-year-old came into the league not too long ago as an 18-year-old for the then-Atlanta Thrashers, finishing 12th for the Calder. The former third overall pick in 2008 has posted 47 goals and 161 points along with 446 PIMs, 725 blocks and 971 hits. Not too shabby for the young veteran.
Jan 13 - 6:25 PM

Zach Bogosian got through his first game back from injury Saturday night without incident.

Bogosian, who had missed 20 games with a knee injury, was on the ice for 21:17 and 22 shifts against the Islanders, most with Dmitry Kulikov. The veteran rearguard was minus one for the evening and took one shot on goal. If you have Bogosian on your fantasy team, he is now safe to activate.

Zach Bogosian (knee) is scheduled to take part in a full practice Thursday.

"He's felt good on the ice, felt comfortable skating," said coach Dan Bylsma. "He's gone through progression minus his teammates. You have to get into practice. There is some reaction and movement with the drills" in the morning skate. "That's a progression for him. Full practice would be super beneficial in seeing where he's at with his knee." Bogosian has missed 19 games with a sprained MCL and there is no timetable for his return, but he is making progress.

Zach Bogosian (knee) skated with his teammates Tuesday morning.

It's the first time he has done that since he suffered a sprained MCL on Nov. 1. "I don't have a game scheduled or penciled in right now," Bogosian said. "I'm just kind of taking it a day at a time, talk to Dan and the training staff and see if we can come up with a plan."

Zach Bogosian (knee) skated with rehab and development coach Dennis Miller on Sunday.

"He's ramping up his skating from being on the ice to being on the ice with gear," coach Dan Bylsma said. "His skating level is going higher here. Hopefully, he continues to progress here." Zach Bogosian is still 10-14 days away from returning to action.

Bogosian is still recovering from a sprained MCL and needs more time to strengthen his knee. The oft-injured Bogosian is a useful fantasy defenseman when he is healthy. Unfortunately, that is rarely the case.
