Zach Bogosian will undergo season-ending hip surgery.

The Sabres revealed that this hip problem is the one Bogosian sustained during the preseason. He didn't make his season debut until Dec. 1 as a result and only played in 18 games before ending up back on the sidelines. He had apparently re-aggravated the injury and while the Sabres initially projected that he would be out for four-to-six weeks this time, in the end he has been shutdown for significantly longer. The silver lining is that he should be ready for training camp.

Zach Bogosian (lower body) is expected to be sidelined for the next four-to-six weeks.

Bogosian was hurt while battling for the puck with Evander Kane during Wednesday's practice. Though it's classified as a lower-body injury, it wouldn't be surprising if Bogosian's specific injury is to his left leg given that he couldn't put any weight on it while being helped off the ice. "It's a tough blow for him," Sabres coach Phil Housley said. "He's been fighting through injuries this year and it's difficult. It's how the business goes, it's how the game goes. It's unfortunate, but it's giving other players an opportunity." Bogosian has an assist in 18 games in 2017-18.

Zach Bogosian needed to be helped off the ice during Wednesday's practice after he appeared to injure his left leg.

Bogosian was hurt while battling for the puck in a corner with Evander Kane. Bogosian was still being evaluated, so it's not clear how serious his injury is yet. A report from TSN's Bob McKenzie suggested that the Sabres defender could be out for four-to-six weeks. He has an assist in 18 games this season.

Zach Bogosian played well for the Sabres in back-to-back games against Pittsburgh this past weekend.

Bogosian logged 20:48 in his season debut on Friday and he had seven shots attempts, with four on target. He played 17:34 in Saturday's rematch with two shots and a fighting major. Bogosian finished with an even plus-minus in both games even though the Sabres were outscored 9-1. He missed the first 25 games with a lower-body injury, but played better than any Buffalo defender over the weekend.

Zach Bogosian (lower body) will make his season debut on Friday.

Bogosian missed the first 25 games of the Sabres' campaign. While he doesn't have much fantasy value in standard leagues, he is typically good for over 20 minutes per game so getting him back will be a big boost for Buffalo. Look for him to be on the second pairing with Nathan Beaulieu.

Zach Bogosian (lower body) won't play Tuesday night.

"He's not going to play tonight," coach Phil Housley said after the morning skate. "I really like the progress that he's been making. ... We wanted to be cautious with this injury. He looks really good out there, but I just feel with one practice and a pregame skate, he just needs more time." Bogosian will have to wait a bit longer to make season debut.

Zach Bogosian (lower body) could be available to play Tuesday against Tampa Bay.

Bogosian participated fully in Monday's practice. "We'll see how he reacts after this practice he had," coach Phil Housley said. "I really liked the way Zach was playing before he got injured in camp. I thought he was bringing a speed game, a powerful game, a physical game, willing to get up in the play and make things happen. We've been missing that."

Zach Bogosian (lower body) was a participant in Wednesday's morning skate.

Bogosian hasn't played yet this season, but he's getting close. It's worth noting that he was close to rejoining the Sabres at a prior point during his recovery, but he ended up suffering a setback. "I just tried to be smart about it the second time around," he said. "It seems like I've turned the corner, and I'm just trying to now get back into practice with the team and then into a game. It's something that you need to skate, and that's part of my job. When you have something that keeps popping up, you try to be as smart as possible with it. But as far as worrying about it popping up down the road, anything can happen."

Zach Bogosian (lower body) has been skating on his own for the last few days.

"He's moved back to day to day now with his injury," coach Phil Housley said. "He's making progress. He's been skating now two or three days, which is encouraging." Bogosian is still waiting to make his 2017-18 season debut.

The Buffalo Sabres have placed Zach Bogosian (lower body) on the injured reserve list.

The injury-prone defenseman has yet to play this season. He managed only 56 games last season and 64 and 62 the previous two campaigns. Put him on reserve if you have him on your roster.

Zach Bogosian (lower body) is making progress towards a return.

"Zach is doing quite well. He skated again today," coach Phil Housley said. "He's making really good progress. He'll continue to go on the ice and work on his game and hopefully that will mean he's playing soon." Bogosian didn't practice Sunday and it sounds like he'll have to wait a little longer before he can make his season debut.

Zach Bogosian (lower body) didn't practice Sunday.

Jake McCabe (shoulder), who is slated to be Bogosian's defense partner this season, didn't take part in Sunday's session either. It's uncertain at this time if they will be ready for Thursday's season opener, but coach Phil Housley is hopeful that they will be available. Bogosian will be re-evaluated on Monday.
