All signs point to Michael Del Zotto being a healthy scratch in Thursday's game against Florida.
"You never want to be sitting out," said Del Zotto. "All I've been told is that we have healthy [defensemen] and it's a coach's decision. All I can do and all I can control is how hard I work every day. That's what I'm doing." The 24-year-old has been a healthy scratch in five of Philadelphia's last seven games. Dec 18 - 5:41 PM

Michael Del Zotto was expected by some to return to the Philadelphia Flyers against the Carolina Hurricanes, but that ended up not being the case.

"MDZ" seemingly has some offensive potential, yet he's simply in a tough spot in his career and isn't much of a fantasy factor at this point. Naturally, Rotoworld will note if he enjoys a revitalization.
Dec 13 - 1:32 PM

Michael Del Zotto is projected to rejoin the Flyers' lineup on Saturday.

Del Zotto spent two games in the press box. Look for him to play alongside Andrew MacDonald.
Dec 5 - 4:59 PM

Michael Del Zotto will spend Tuesday's game in the press box.

Flyers coach Craig Berube said Del Zotto has done a good job with the Flyers "but the last little while I find that he wasn't moving the puck. He was trying to do too much himself. To me, his defensive play has dropped off a little. I talked to him today about getting back on track, moving the puck, joining the rush not leading the rush, and playing better defense." Del Zotto has two goals and eight points in 22 contests in 2014-15.
Dec 2 - 5:19 PM

Michael Del Zotto will draw in Saturday night against Columbus as Philadelphia will go with seven defensemen.

The Flyers are going with seven blue liners against Columbus, and Coach Berube is not worried about over-taxing his forwards. "We got lots of forwards that can handle minutes," Berube said. The projected lineups have Del Zotto as a swing man, to borrow a term.
Nov 22 - 7:05 PM

Michael Del Zotto is questionable on Saturday after suffering a lower body injury Wednesday.

The defenseman has two goals and eight points in 17 games this season. He suffered the injury while trying to block a shot.
Nov 22 - 10:20 AM

Michael Del Zotto sustained a lower-body injury in the third period of Wednesday's game.

Del Zotto was hurt in a collision with the Rangers' Dan Girardi. Del Zotto is questionable for Thursday's contest. He has two goals and eight points in 17 games in 2014-15.
Nov 20 - 9:58 AM

Michael Del Zotto will suit up against his former Rangers teammates on Wednesday night.

"It's my first time being here, especially with the renovation, it was a bit different," said Del Zotto referring to Madison Square Garden. "It's a different feeling coming in on the opposite side. You don't want to look at this game any differently, you get caught up in the moment, that's when things turn south for you. It's a big game for us, losing two games in a row, being neck in neck in the standings with the Rangers, this is a game we need tonight." He should be motivated for contest and talked about wanting to play with a chip on his shoulder. Del Zotto has eight points and a plus-2 rating in 16 games with the Flyers.
Nov 19 - 2:36 PM

For Michael Del Zotto, Philadelphia's recent bonding trip to Cape Cod was particularly helpful.

Del Zotto is one of the few new faces on the Flyers. "I think everyone's been great," Del Zotto said. "It was just great to get to know some of the guys, get some chemistry on and off the ice. I think that's what this weekend was all about. It's a very tight-knit group." Del Zotto is coming off of a disastrous campaign and consequently has a lot to prove going into the 2014-15 season.
Oct 7 - 11:09 AM

Michael Del Zotto was minus-three in Philadelphia's 4-0 loss to Toronto on Tuesday.

Del Zotto looked better in Monday's contest though. The Flyers are hoping he'll rebound after recording just 16 points in 67 games with the New York Rangers and Nashville Predators in 2013-14.
Sep 25 - 8:49 AM

Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall expects Michael Del Zotto to bounce back after a rough 2013-14 campaign.

Del Zotto went from recording 41 points in 2011-12 and 21 points in 46 contests during the shortened campaign to scoring just three goals and 16 points in 67 games last season. In addition to his production declining, he saw his role with the Rangers reduced substantially and a trade to Nashville wasn't enough to turn his season around. The Predators didn't even think he was worth a qualifying offer to retain his rights, but Philadelphia eventually offered him a one-year contract in August. "We look at a young player like Michael Del Zotto coming into the NHL at his age," Flyers GM Ron Hextall said. "He has a lot of money. He's got fame, he's got people wanting to spend time with him and thinking he's a big deal. Any 20-21-22 or 23-year-old, it's pretty easy to get off the rails. I think that is what happened to him. I think in two years, he will look back and say, 'it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I regained my focus and what is important.'"
Sep 2 - 12:15 PM

The addition of Michael Del Zotto to the fold in Philadelphia will likely force other changes to the Flyers defensive pairings.

Although veteran Kimmo Timonen (blood clots) has spent the last few seasons paired primarily with Braydon Coburn, it's unlikely coach Craig Berube will slide Del Zotto into that slot, favoring Andrew MacDonald with Coburn instead. "MacDonald and Coburn played together some games last year and I really liked what I saw there as a shutdown pair," Berube said. He went on to say that he intends to start the season with Del Zotto in a pairing with defensive-minded Luke Schenn with Nick Grossman and Mark Streit forming the third duo.
Aug 9 - 8:24 AM

Michael Del Zotto is motivated to get back on track in Philadelphia.

"Without making the playoffs, it's been a long summer, something new for me," Del Zotto said. "I took two weeks off and began training right away. Last season didn't go as well as I would have liked or planned it to be. It’s been a humbling season. This off-season has been the most motivated I've ever been to get back and prove everyone wrong and that I can get back and be what I was before." He had a good rookie season (37 points) and he produced 41 points in 2011-12, so there is some reason for optimism. The Flyers signed him to a low-risk, one-year contract worth $1.3 million and he could supply some offense from the back end.
Aug 6 - 2:42 PM

Michael Del Zotto has agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Flyers were in need of some defensive help after learning about Kimmo Timonen's blood clot issue. Del Zotto will be looking to rebound from a disappointing 2013-14 season. He posted three goals and 13 assists in 67 contests between the New York Rangers and Nashville Predators.

Aug 5 - 7:52 PM

Michael Del Zotto is still looking for an NHL team after he was cut loose by the Nashville Predators.

His agent said there's "no chance" that his client ends up with the Vancouver Canucks, which put an end to those rumors. The Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders could be possible destinations. Del Zotto is just 24 years of age and his 41-point campaign in 2011-12 will probably convince a team to take a chance on him. However, that opportunity may not present itself until training camps are about to open and he receives a professional tryout.
