Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall expects Michael Del Zotto to bounce back after a rough 2013-14 campaign.
Del Zotto went from recording 41 points in 2011-12 and 21 points in 46 contests during the shortened campaign to scoring just three goals and 16 points in 67 games last season. In addition to his production declining, he saw his role with the Rangers reduced substantially and a trade to Nashville wasn't enough to turn his season around. The Predators didn't even think he was worth a qualifying offer to retain his rights, but Philadelphia eventually offered him a one-year contract in August. "We look at a young player like Michael Del Zotto coming into the NHL at his age," Flyers GM Ron Hextall said. "He has a lot of money. He's got fame, he's got people wanting to spend time with him and thinking he's a big deal. Any 20-21-22 or 23-year-old, it's pretty easy to get off the rails. I think that is what happened to him. I think in two years, he will look back and say, 'it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I regained my focus and what is important.'" Sep 2 - 12:15 PM

The addition of Michael Del Zotto to the fold in Philadelphia will likely force other changes to the Flyers defensive pairings.

Although veteran Kimmo Timonen (blood clots) has spent the last few seasons paired primarily with Braydon Coburn, it's unlikely coach Craig Berube will slide Del Zotto into that slot, favoring Andrew MacDonald with Coburn instead. "MacDonald and Coburn played together some games last year and I really liked what I saw there as a shutdown pair," Berube said. He went on to say that he intends to start the season with Del Zotto in a pairing with defensive-minded Luke Schenn with Nick Grossman and Mark Streit forming the third duo.

Michael Del Zotto is motivated to get back on track in Philadelphia.

"Without making the playoffs, it's been a long summer, something new for me," Del Zotto said. "I took two weeks off and began training right away. Last season didn't go as well as I would have liked or planned it to be. It’s been a humbling season. This off-season has been the most motivated I've ever been to get back and prove everyone wrong and that I can get back and be what I was before." He had a good rookie season (37 points) and he produced 41 points in 2011-12, so there is some reason for optimism. The Flyers signed him to a low-risk, one-year contract worth $1.3 million and he could supply some offense from the back end.
Aug 6 - 2:42 PM

Michael Del Zotto has agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Flyers were in need of some defensive help after learning about Kimmo Timonen's blood clot issue. Del Zotto will be looking to rebound from a disappointing 2013-14 season. He posted three goals and 13 assists in 67 contests between the New York Rangers and Nashville Predators.

Michael Del Zotto is still looking for an NHL team after he was cut loose by the Nashville Predators.

His agent said there's "no chance" that his client ends up with the Vancouver Canucks, which put an end to those rumors. The Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders could be possible destinations. Del Zotto is just 24 years of age and his 41-point campaign in 2011-12 will probably convince a team to take a chance on him. However, that opportunity may not present itself until training camps are about to open and he receives a professional tryout.
Aug 4 - 7:54 PM

Free agent defenseman Michael Del Zotto is determined to find an NHL club to sign him as soon as possible.

"I'm just waiting for the right opportunity to prove myself again, and prove everyone who's doubted me wrong," said Del Zotto, who finished last season with the Nashville Predators after being traded by the New York Rangers. In Nashville, he was scratched from four of the final five games and finished with one goal and four assists in 25 games. His total of 16 points was well off his career-high 41 of two seasons back. "The whole season overall wasn't how I wanted it to be," Del Zotto said. "It was unfortunate losing your confidence early. It's a confidence game, so I'm just trying to get it back this summer. I know what I can do and can provide a team. I've done it in the past; I'm just trying to get there again." Nashville did not extend a qualifying offer to Del Zotto, making the five-season veteran an unrestricted free agent. He said clubs have expressed an interest, but he remains unsigned almost a month into free agency.

Columnist Larry Brooks feels this summer should serve as a wake-up call for Michael Del Zotto.

Not only did Nashville not bother to qualify Del Zotto, but he is still looking for work a week into the unrestricted free agent market. It wasn't long ago that the Rangers were giving Del Zotto top-four minutes, but now he needs to prove that he's worthy of simply playing in the NHL. He should eventually find a team that's willing to give him a one-year "show me" contract and then the pressure will be on for him to bounce back.
Jul 7 - 9:47 AM

Michael Del Zotto will not get a qualifying offer from Nashville, which makes him an unrestricted free agent.

The Predators rolled the dice by acquiring him in exchange for Kevin Klein, but he didn't make a smooth transition. It was thought that he might get a chance to bounce back under new coach Peter Laviolette, but now he'll be looking to do that with another team. Del Zotto produced three goals and 16 points in 67 games with Nashville and the New York Rangers last season.
Jun 30 - 4:57 PM

The New York Islanders reportedly have an interest in Michael Del Zotto.

It's believed that Del Zotto will either be dealt by Nashville or he will not be qualified on Monday. The Predators don't feel that the former Rangers blueliner is a fit with their organization, so they are expected to cut ties with him shortly.
Jun 30 - 9:55 AM

Michael Del Zotto is being shopped by the Predators, according to TVA’s Renaud Lavoie.

Del Zotto played 25 games with the Predators after the trade with the Rangers. In 67 games last season, he recorded 16 points, not exactly the type of numbers you want to see from a guy who is of the offensive-defenseman mold. Del Zotto is a restricted free agent who earned $2.9 million last season. Only 24, there should be interest around the league, though the Predators probably shouldn't expect a big haul in return.
Jun 28 - 7:43 PM

Michael Del Zotto and the Nashville Predators haven't started contract talks yet.

"Nothing to report, no discussions yet," said agent Mark Guy. Assuming Del Zotto is still in Nashville's plans, he'll get a qualifying offer from the club sometime before the June 30 deadline. He will be a restricted free agent next week, but there doesn't appear to be a rush to get him under contract.
Jun 26 - 4:07 PM

Determining fair value for soon-to-be restricted free agent Michael Del Zotto might be tough.

Del Zotto was pretty effective in 2011-12 and 2013, but he took a big step back in 2013-14 with 16 points and a minus-nine rating in 67 games. "Obviously I'm not too happy with how this year has gone for me," Del Zotto said. He didn't get much power-play ice time with Nashville and we consequently don't have high hopes for him in 2014-15 from a fantasy perspective.
Apr 20 - 10:53 AM

Michael Del Zotto scored his third goal of the season in Nashville's blowout loss to Dallas on Friday night.

Del Zotto has struggled on the Predators, demonstrated by his healthy scratch last week. He has just 16 points through 64 games this season and 11 of them came when he was still in New York. That makes just five points in 22 games with his new team.
Mar 28 - 11:25 PM

Michael Del Zotto served as a healthy scratch again in Sunday's win over Chicago.

It was the second time during Nashville's four-game road trip that he's watched from the press box. Del Zotto picked up an assist in Friday's game at Calgary, but the Predators dressed seven defensemen and he logged a mere 3:13 of ice time.
Mar 24 - 12:14 PM

Michael Del Zotto was a healthy scratch Wednesday night against Vancouver.

"His game has slipped, and our coaching staff has talked to him about making solid decisions, solid plays and he has gotten away from that a little bit," coach Barry Trotz said. "We had some healthy people and we felt this would be a good time." He has posted a minus-6 his past three games and he's collected just two helpers in his last 14 outings. Victor Bartley took his spot in the lineup.
