The Nashville Predators will make the signing of Roman Josi a priority in the off-season.
Josi will become a restricted free agent in the off-season and the Predators want him to add muscle in the off-season as they think he lacks "man strength" according to coach Barry Trotz. Josi is second on the Predators depth chart on the blueline, behind Shea Weber and is expected to be an integral part of the Nashville defense for many years to come. He had five goals and 18 points in 48 games this season and should hit the 35-40 point mark next season if he remains healthy. May 18 - 7:49 AM

The Nashville Predators want Roman Josi to get bigger in the off-season.

Josi worked on his nutrition last season and dropped from 12.5 percent body fat to 8.5 percent and will work on bulking up this off-season. "His conditioning was better," GM David Poile said. "We talked about his nutrition, his strength. When you're going to be playing big minutes like he did this year, you're going to need that." Josi increased his playing time over five minutes per game this season and should get a bigger share of ice time again next season, if he can handle it.

The Nashville Predators haven't made much progress recently in their contract negotiations with Roman Josi.

Josi is eligible to become a restricted free agent this summer. The Predators have already locked up Patric Hornqvist to a five-year deal before he could become an RFA. "We’re talking to Roman just as we were with Patric and his representatives, and we’re trying," Predators GM David Poile said. "You never know in a negotiation, but the intent on both sides is to get something done."

The Predators are encouraged by the progress of Roman Josi this season and they have high hopes for him in the future.

"He's going to continue to get stronger and get that man-strength," coach Barry Trotz said. "I think he's still at that boy-strength. That man-strength, where you run into a guy and go, 'Wow, OK, I'm not sure I can handle this guy,' ... that's where I think his next step is in terms of the physical stuff." He has 18 points in 46 games this year after he posted 16 in 52 contests last season. Josi has received more ice time this campaign and he's performed well with his increased role.
Apr 25 - 1:11 PM

Predators defenseman Roman Josi scored a goal and added an assist in Nashville's 3-2 loss to the Oilers on Sunday.

Josi had recorded just nine points in 28 contests entering this game, with a substantial portion of those coming in one four-point effort against the Stars in February, but he receives a good amount of ice time in offensive situations for the Preds. Shea Weber was the other Nashville goal-scorer in the loss.
Mar 17 - 10:36 PM

After a four-point night on Monday, Roman Josi struggled along with most of the Nashville Predators in a 5-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

Josi had zero points and a -1 rating. He has a promising future but simply might not be ready to be a fantasy starter. Craig Smith was Nashville's only goal scorer.
Feb 28 - 12:50 AM

Roman Josi potted two goals and also registered two assists in the Predators' 5-4 overtime win over the Stars Monday night.

Josi skated in 52 games with Nashville during his rookie season, while registering 16 points, 98 blocks and a plus-1 rating. He was expected to produce a little more than the one goal he had before tonight's contest but this could be the start of something better to come. He's worth a look in deeper leagues.
Feb 25 - 11:35 PM

Look for Roman Josi to take over Ryan Suter's spot alongside Shea Weber.

There's not too many better spots to be in than as the defensive partner to stud defenseman Shea Weber, but it looks like Josi will have the first shot at it. "It's not going to be the same — it took time for Ryan and I to gain that chemistry, but over time it will come," Weber said. "He's (Josi) going to be a great player, he's already a good player. He has the drive and the will that I think he's going to be a good player in the NHL for a long time." Josi played for his hometown team of Bern in the Swiss Elite League where he had six goals and 17 points in 26 games. Look for a break out season for the 22-year-old rearguard in the 2013 season.
Jan 7 - 11:45 AM

Roman Josi chipped in a pair of assists for SC Bern in a 3-2 shootout win against the ZSC Lions on Wednesday.

The Nashville Predators defenseman has generated 16 points in 24 games with his Swiss League squad this campaign.
Jan 2 - 1:25 PM

Roman Josi had a goal and a helper in SC Bern's 5-1 victory over Genève.

John Tavares of the New York Islanders, who also plays for Bern, got on the scoresheet with a pair of assists. Tavares' Isles teammate Mark Streit earned a helper as well in the contest.

Roman Josi will play for SC Bern in the Swiss League during the lockout.

The Nashville blueliner had 16 points in 52 NHL games last season and will take on a bigger role once the NHL season begins as Ryan Suter has left for Minnesota. Josi played for Bern before heading across the pond to play in North America. He is expected to arrive in Switzerland on Wednesday the 27th and play Saturday the 29th against Lugano.

Roman Josi is still unsure whether he'll go to the AHL or return to Switzerland to play in the Swiss League during the work stoppage.

"It all depends on how long the lockout takes," Josi said. "We don’t know that yet. I have to talk to the coaches and what they think is better for me." Josi had 16 points in 52 games in the NHL last year.

Roman Josi practiced with Shea Weber during an informal on-ice training session on Tuesday.

Weber needs a new defensive partner with Ryan Suter gone and there's a good chance it will be Josi. Weber and Josi were paired up for three games last season when Suter was injured in mid-January. Josi averaged 18:23 minutes per game in 2011-12 and that might increase this season.

Roman Josi played three games alongside Shea Weber last season when Ryan Suter missed some time with an upper-body injury in mid-January.

He registered one assist and a minus-2 rating, but he didn't look too out of place. Weber also didn't struggle with Josi as his partner, like he has in the past when playing with anyone other than Suter, so that's another good sign that Josi could receive the job in 2012-13. The Predators are trying to get him ready to audition for the position by setting him up with a nutritionist and telling him to him to add more muscle. Josi could see more ice time against top-line players, so he'll need to be better prepared for the challenge.

Roman Josi is being projected as an early replacement for Ryan Suter, to play alongside Shea Weber, by Nashville coach Barry Tritz.

The Predators still have to sign Weber, who is a restricted free agent, to a new deal, but the potential move would boost Josi's value. Josi averaged 18:23 of ice time per game in 2011-12, but that would certainly go up next to Weber. He skated in 52 games with Nashville during his rookie season, while registering 16 points, 98 blocks and a plus-1 rating.
