Tyler Myers knows he has to improve after regressing each year since he won the Calder Trophy in 2009-10.
"It's only natural to hear things like that the way things have gone, especially this year," he said. "I'll be the first to admit I definitely need to turn things around, get back on that path to improving and working on the things that have made me successful. It's just a matter of working that much harder this off-season." Myers notched eight points and a minus-8 rating before his season came to an end when a hairline fracture was discovered in his left leg after he blocked a shot against Montreal on April 11. He wants to put his past conditioning issues behind him and train hard in the summer, so it could make for a more fit Tyler Myers next year. Apr 29 - 10:08 AM

The Buffalo Sabres announced that Tyler Myers broke a bone in his leg on Thursday, effectively ending his 2013 season.

The towering defenseman has been a disappointment on the scale of his size at times in this campaign, but that's still a discouraging update. The Sabres didn't give a window of recovery beyond that vague season-ending label, so it's unclear how deep into the offseason (or even 2013-14 season) this might go.
Apr 12 - 1:13 PM

Tyler Myers has been a colossal disappointment for much of his fourth NHL season.

The former Calder Trophy winner has only four assists in the last 17 games, but Myers has played at least 23:59 in the last four games. "I think it’s been night and day from the start of the season until now," Myers said about his play. "There’s always room for improvement for any player. I feel I’ve really simplified my game. It’s just a matter of jumping when … you see the opportunity." He shouldn't be counted on in yearly formats for the rest of the season.
Apr 7 - 12:22 PM

Tyler Myers admitted to being out of shape at the start of the season.

"Yeah," Myers said. "I wanted more. It’s something that had to be addressed. It has been addressed. But you know, I won’t be making that mistake again." The promising blueliner was made a healthy scratch twice in February, and finally his game has started to come along, with a closer attention paid to the defensive end. Myers only has five points on the year, and really shouldn't be counted on in yearly formats for the rest of the season.
Mar 23 - 8:57 AM

Tyler Myers netted the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Tampa Bay.

"It always feels good to score," Myers said. "It felt unbelievable to get the win after the way things have been going." He also picked up four minutes in penalties, but the Sabres bailed him out while going six for six on the penalty kill in the contest. Myers has three goals and one assist to go with a minus-6 rating in 18 games this campaign.
Feb 27 - 10:04 AM

Tyler Myers, who had been a healthy scratch for two games this past week, played well in a 4-2 win over the Bruins Friday night.

He scored an important goal, registered an assist and looked more comfortable at both ends of the ice in the victory. Myers has had a miserable season so far (one goal and a minus nine rating), however, Friday night's contest could be a turning point. "When he’s skating and moving, he’s a tough man to keep track of," said coach Lindy Ruff. "I thought his energy in the game was maybe as good as I’ve seen this year." Myers was also pleased with his effort. "There’s a lot of good things to take from it," Myers said. "I think the most important thing is I continue, not let this be a one-game thing. A lot of it is confidence. It’s coming back." We have a feeling the 6'8" defenseman will be a solid starter from here on in.
Feb 16 - 9:45 AM

Tyler Myers will return to the Buffalo Sabres' lineup Tuesday after being a healthy scratch the last two games.

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff was sending a message to his young defenseman, who had a -9 rating on the season. Asked what Myers was supposed to learn from sitting out, Ruff quipped to the media, "It's an easy game from upstairs. Just ask all you guys." Myers hasn't lived up to expectations after a 48-point rookie season and has become a fantasy liability this season.
Feb 12 - 1:28 PM

Tyler Myers spent his second straight game in the press box on Sunday.

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff sent Myers a message by scratching him Saturday, but to keep him out of the lineup two games is particularly troubling. Myers is still very likely to be reinserted from Tuesday's contest.
Feb 11 - 8:45 AM

The Buffalo Sabres scratched Tyler Myers in Saturday's win against the lowly Islanders.

Myers is a league-worst minus-nine in 11 games and has registered just one point this season. "I’m embarrassed, and I should be," said Myers after today’s optional morning skate at the Nassau Coliseum. "Two years in a row now, it doesn’t feel very good. But the silver lining, I responded the way I needed to last time and that’s what I have to do this time." Myers hasn't lived up to expectations since his amazing 48-point rookie campaign and is unfortunately a fantasy liability.
Feb 10 - 10:50 AM

Tyler Myers will sit Saturday as a healthy scratch.

He was skated hard at the end of the morning skate and will watch Buffalo's game against the Islanders from the press box. Myers has one goal and a minus-9 rating in 11 games this season. Andrej Sekera, who is returning from a bruised foot, will play in his place.
Feb 9 - 1:04 PM

Tyler Myers could be a scratch for Saturday afternoon's game against the Canadiens.

He has struggled this season with only one point in seven contests. He, as well as his partner Jordan Leopold, have also been stung defensively. Either Myers or Leopold may be in the press box against the Habs to give T.J. Brennan a chance to dress. Adjust your roster accordingly.
Feb 2 - 8:59 AM

Tyler Myers netted a power-play goal in Buffalo's 5-2 opening game win on Sunday.

Myers hasn't lived up to expectations since his amazing 48-point rookie campaign, but that should change in his fourth season. The Sabres are developing into a very competitive team and Myers got some work in Austria during the lockout, so he's less rusty than most. It wouldn't be surprising if he ended up with over 20 points in the shortened season.
Jan 21 - 7:37 AM

Tyler Myers said his ankle feels fine after missing nearly a month with the injury while playing for the Austrian club Klagenfurter AC.

Myers was able to return to Klagenfurter AC's lineup just before leaving the team to rejoin the Sabres. "It's fine. I came back for the one game and it felt fine," Myers said. "I made sure it was ready to go before I came back. I'm feeling 100 percent. ... [The injury] got me a little nervous at the start. Once we figured out what it was, I knew it would be pretty quick. I didn't want to push it to try to come back too early in case the season came back."
Jan 10 - 3:50 PM

Tyler Myers returned to the lineup for Klagenfurter AC last Friday after missing nearly a month with an ankle injury.

He scored the winning goal in the shootout in his last match with the organization. Myers put up 10 points, 37 penalty minutes and a minus-7 rating in 17 games with the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga in Austria during the lockout. He'll likely be checked over by the Sabres medical staff when training camps open to make sure everything is fine.
Jan 7 - 11:55 AM

Tyler Myers sustained an injury to his ankle last Friday with his Austrian club Klagenfurter AC.

He reportedly suffered some stretched ligaments, but it doesn't appear to be serious as he could be back in the lineup by this Friday against Alba Volan. Myers has recorded nine points and a minus-8 rating in 16 Erste Bank Eishockey Liga contests this year.
