Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo was one of two St. Louis players who assisted on both of the Blues' goals in a 2-1 victory over the Red Wings in Detroit Wednesday night.
David Backes accomplished the same feat. Pietrangelo and Backes set up Ty Rattie's goal at 18:01 of the first period to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. They went up 2-0 at 12:13 of the third period when Pietrangelo and Backes assisted on a goal by Dmitrij Jaskin. Rattie and Jaskin both notched their third goals of the season in this game. Pietrangelo picked up assists No. 17 and 18, while Backes now has 16 assists on the season. The Blues are 5-1-0 in their past six games. Jan 20 - 11:14 PM

Alex Pietrangelo netted a goal for the Blues, who defeated the Kings 2-1 in a shootout Saturday night.

Pietrangelo answered Anze Kopitar’s nifty backhanded goal with a slick wrist shot of his own less than three minutes later in the second period. Vladimir Tarasenko and Jori Lehtera got the assists. Pietrangelo has three goals and 18 points.

Alex Pietrangelo's age-26 season is not going according to plan, nor as he was statistically trending.

Can you name the only month in which Alex Pietrangelo has scored a goal? Regardless, you had a 33% chance of being correct which only slightly outpaces his 2.2 shooting percentage through 36 games. With just two goals, 13 points, eight PIMs, and 65 blocks, it may be Pietrangelo's career high of 26:28 of ice time per game that's effecting his play the most. Whatever his stifling the talented defender's production, it may be time to sell.

The Blues will be looking to get better results from their second power-play unit going forward.

The first unit which features Vladimir Tarasenko, Alexander Steen, David Backes, Paul Stastny and Kevin Shattenkirk has scored the team's last 11 goals with the man advantage. The second unit comprised of Jori Lehtera, Robby Fabbri, Troy Brouwer, Alex Pietrangelo and Colton Parayko has not bulged the twine since November 12th. The numbers speak for themselves.

Alex Pietrangelo logged a career high 32:54 of ice time last Saturday against Detroit.

That was the most he has played in a regular-season game and the most by a member of the Blues since Christian Backman played 34:42 against Colorado in March 2006. The record belongs to Chris Pronger, who had 37:17 of playing time in December 2000. Pietrangelo hasn't earned a point in his past seven contests and he has nine points in 22 matches this season.

Alex Pietrangelo was happy to get his first goal of the season Saturday night after failing to score in his previous 13 outings.

"It was about time," he said. "I had a couple of good looks in the last couple of games. I thought it was going to come, and finally it did. Hopefully there's more." Pietrangelo has collected four of his eight points in his last four games.

Alex Pietrangelo chipped in two helpers in a 6-5 overtime win over Chicago on Wednesday night.

He had the primary assist on David Backes' game-tying marker in the second period and Vladimir Tarasenko's game winner in the extra session. Pietrangelo is still seeking his first goal of the year, but he has registered four of his seven assists in his last five outings.

The St. Louis Blues are looking for a bounce-back season from Jay Bouwmeester and Alex Pietrangelo.

"Well, I think they both didn’t play as well as they have in the past," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "With Petro, we need him back playing with that jump that he did in the last 20 league games and the whole playoffs. I think with Bouwmeester we need him getting back to where he’s a great 200-foot player. That’s what we’re looking for." The two often come in a pairing (including with Canada at the Sochi Olympics) but Hitchcock still hasn't played them together in the preseason. It looks like they may be playing on two separate pairings when the season opens up next month.

Alex Pietrangelo thinks the Blues had a successful offseason.

Fresh off a 109-point season and a loss in the first round of the playoffs, the Blues did not do a lot to their roster. They traded T.J. Oshied to the Capitals for Troy Brouwer and signed Kyle Brodziak. "[Doug Armstrong] and [coach Ken Hitchcock] did a great job this summer," Pietrangelo said. "It's obviously tough to see guys go because they're good friends, but some of these guys have come in pretty early. [Brouwer] has been here for a few weeks now. We've bonded pretty well, and he fits right in."

When asked about what St. Louis has to do to get back into their first round series against Minnesota, Alex Pietrangelo said "win the next game".

The Blues find themselves facing elimination going into Sunday's game six action in Minnesota. "We've still got two hockey games to play," said Pietrangelo. "We're not going to hang our heads here, we know we've got to play better. We'll take a hard look at ourselves and get ready for game six."

Alex Pietrangelo collected two helpers during the Blues' 3-0 victory over the Stars on Sunday night.

It was another outstanding game by the Blues top defenseman, who also saved a goal that trickled through Jake Allen. The assists gives him 32 for the season and 38 points. He now has eight points coming with the man advantage.

Alex Pietrangelo is a plus-10 in his last 10 games.

While his minus-two overall rating does not look great, he has vastly improved upon of late. He has four goals and 22 assists this season and should have a better second half.

Alex Pietrangelo registered two assists in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over Carolina.

Pietrangelo picked up assists on Alex Steen and Patrick Berglund's goals. The 24-year-old has four points in his last three games, and has four goals and 25 points in 42 games this season. Pietrangelo will look to put an average first half of the season behind him.
Sun, Jan 11, 2015 12:07:00 PM

Alex Pietrangelo has not played well for the Blues thus far this season.

He has registered a mere seven points in 19 games after recording 51 in 81 games last year. Pietrangelo has also been a bit of a liability without the puck as he has a minus five rating after posting a plus 20 rating in 2013-14. We expect Pietrangelo to rebound some, but his poor start can't be erased.
